IIRC it's something about safety and jobs.

Not if you're expecting gas prices to rise soon.

And for funsies, here are the current gas prices in the Netherlands:
Euro (standard petrol): € 1.828 ($2.42)
Super (performance petrol or something): € 1.894 ($2.51)
Diesel: € 1.478 ($1.96)
LPG: € 0.809 ($1.07)

Now keep in mind, that's per liter, so multiply by 3.78541 to get 1 gallon.

Because it's just better that way. So, so much better.

I love not having to pump my own gas.

It's actually against the law to top off a gas tank here. That guy could get fired if you reported him. Just saying. Smiley: sly

I'm pretty sure it's illegal in most states, especially in California. And reporting him would be too much effort for me; I'm on vacation!

In any event, I totally see the convenience factor of having an attendant pump the tank, but as a Californian I personally find it more convenient to pump my own gas.

And that concludes my part of this gassy discussion.

Tsk tsk, gotta lay off that lead foot. Smiley: wink Our new Rav4 got 35-42 MPG on our last road trip (rated 31 hwy). Smiley: cool

Just worked out the conversion from L/Km to MPG. My car gets about 13-15 MPG :) At least the way I drive it anyway.

The current testing methods that EPA uses to calculate estimated mileage was last updated in 2008. My Camry is a 2007 model year that was sold in late 2006. The 2007 model year attained 24 city/33 highway estimates, and after the updates it was changed to 21 city/31 highway. So Smiley: tongue back to you!

It's against the law because it can cause spillage, which is obviously a safety hazard, and it also can allow the gas to leak into the air causing air pollution. At least, that's what I remember from reading about it when it became law back in 2009 (I think).
#23484 Aug 13 2013 at 10:13 PM Rating: Good
Basically, if you're filling the tank they want you to let the pump stop itself. Topping it off is when the person filling the tank continues to fill past that point, usually to round up to the nearest dollar.

Oh, and this.

I'll happily pump my own gas if it means I can enjoy a beer while doing so. Which I can, because it's not illegal to drink and drive here, as long as you don't pass the limit, and because I'm 28, of course.

Not since they abolished slavery. Although you could say that the way McDonalds and Walmart treat their employees slavery has just gotten a rebranding.

The most annoying thing about gas for me is that when traveling in the states, far too many gas stations require a zip code for the pay at the pump option so I have to go inside, authorize a specific amount, fill up my car, and then get the balance refunded. bah.

Sounds like what those darn Canadians did to me. Something, something, your debit card doesn't work up here, come inside and run it as credit, something.

Some kind of extra security thing when you go places far away from where you live.

Because obviously you're a hobo just out to steal their gas.

On a sidenote, I'm watching Masterchef Australia on TV and the show is sponsored by a pet shop, what's up with that?
