Didn't you get shots for that before you left?
#16728 Jun 22 2012 at 8:17 PM Rating: Good
There isn't a shot for malaria. You have to take a tablet every day (or every week for the other type) to help prevent it. Still best to avoid mosqito bites in malaria areas where possible though as they aren't 100% protection.

Yeah, I'm on daily medication for the time I'm here. The only thing it does is that if I need treatment, because I'm already on part of it - the part that takes a couple of days to take effect - I can be cured in a couple of days less time.

Had my review at work today.

$8,000 per year raise, sup.

I'm awesome, obviously.

Wow, very nice Theo!

I'm going to make 10 cents an hour more than minimum wage, once I start working. -_-
#16732 Jun 22 2012 at 11:36 PM Rating: Good
That's more than half of the money I have in total.

This explains why you can dress so well... but seriously, congrats.

Considering I still make under 6 figures, hell yes. I hugged my boss. Not even kidding.

An extra $8k a year is a hell of a lot of money. That's an extra ~$660 per month (before tax). Even my dad was impressed, and that's tough to do.

EDIT: I guess in light of this, my new watch purchase isn't that crazy. Watchmaker (in Germany) is making it this weekend and I should have it sometime next week.

Yup, the movement is a Swiss ETA. It's a small watchmaker in Germany that gets ETA movements and then builds watches around them. I like them because they're mostly tributes to really well-known watchmakers, but don't have the ridiculous prices of the big names.

That one is a tribute to the Rolex Submariner (though without a date magnifier on the crystal, as I prefer it).

Gratz on the raise Theo and would you be offended if I told you that I think that's not a very pretty watch?

I just hope you didn't spend your entire raise on the new watch. Smiley: grin

No offense Maz but that's both incredibly annoying and retarded.

Edit: Pigtails, there's probably enough of the raise left for a packet of crisps and a few cans of bud light.

Exactly!

Edit: I'm not saying the posts here are annoying and retarded. I'm merely implying it.

So I moved into a new room against my will. The furniture is the same, but it's cut differently and I had a breakdown because of it. Like, it just feels like my old room but slightly off?

Either I have Asperger's or I'm PMSing a lot harder in Pakistan for some reason.

Why did you have to move?
#16745 Jun 23 2012 at 1:00 PM Rating: Good
I asked for a flat with a kitchen, they somehow decided that must mean I want to move closer to the public kitchen (when my main issue is that I have to cook with random people walking in on me) and then suddenly it was like "long term tenants cannot live on the first floor"... either this Sudanese woman wanted my room because she used to have it and then left Pakistan for a month, or they're renovating. I have no idea. I have been planning to talk to the director here, but when I tried on Tuesday they told me he's in Australia till Friday and when I came by his office today I was informed that he is now in Sri Lanka. The man gets everything into motion when the workers are lazy and inefficient, but man, he is hard to get a hold of.

At the very least, no one uses the upstairs kitchen. Except that the upstairs dining hall is right next door and so is the laundry room, so people come by anyway and the door is just a fancy mosquito net. Smiley: glare

And of course the areas where servants might work don't have air conditioning. Smiley: mad

To be fair, I could just have the cook make all my meals, but how lame is that? Plus, he circles between like... very few dishes. Chicken almost every day!

I'd offer you a meal but honestly the only things I have in my house are dishes with pig (either bacon or half and half mince) or chicken (chicken soup or mediocre curry from a jar) so that wouldn't exactly help you much.

Edit: Oh and I have some Kroketten but they're cheap ones so god only knows what's in there.

I've got a semi-public kitchen. Only people on this floor can use it, but there are ~20 people living on this floor.

It's pretty nice sometimes, but most of the time I just want to make my food without someone asking me what I'm making. I'm making meat wrapped in meat and pasta. Same as last night, dude. Today I'll spice it up with a little ketchup on top. Now **** off.

Oh, and you're too late with your beer ban, Aeth. Smiley: grin

Oh yeah? Well, I've got beer and bacon here. I dunk the bacon in the beer and voila. Who's fancy now, huh?
