The 4th one's been out for a year or so? I heard it's even worse then 2/3 though so I didn't bother watching. It also didn't have Keira Knightly or Orlando Bloom so yeah.

The first one was great and they should've left it at that, it's way way too obvious that they didn't expect it to do well and hadn't thought of any sort of sequel.

Why wouldn't it have Keira Knightley or Orlando Bloom...? Smiley: confused

I mean, how is that a good idea?

It cost too much and people will go to see it either way as long as it has more of Captain Jack Sparrow?
Plus, you gotta cash in on this success, Pirates of the Caribbean was the first ever pirate movie that didn't flop.

Like The Matrix.

Hey now, the first one was great, even if it did have Keanu's unique interpretation of what acting is.

Now I wanna re-watch Hackers. Hmm.

In other news, I put a simulation on this morning (Seriously- protein, do you know anything about density functional theory so I can rant about it and SOMEONE will understand?) and when I left work at 4:45 (was meeting someone off the Internet, heh) it was still running. Some others I'd attempted were broken, so I was left with doing one of the complex ones and it's slow. The cluster isn't configured for quantum mechanical calculations, so I have to run it on some 8 core computer instead. The plus side is, while I was checking top I saw my boss was running interesting software from his account. Hehh. Smiley: grin

Also, my supervisor guy is moving to Austria asap, the intended date is end of this month. I is sad.

Whoooooooooooooooooooooooo hoo hoo hoo hoo hooooooooo

Edit: Also, Wieckse Witte is like a combination between a witbier and a Weißbier, it's pretty good considering that it's only €3.50 for a 6pack.

Edit2: Kali, you like your supervisor guy because he's cool/awesome or because you want to do the naughty with him (or both)?

He is the tech support guy at our lab (that's saying a lot given that we're a Linux nerd kinda lab) and the only person well versed in inorganic/quantum chemistry. Also really nice and good looking - but every single person at work is that, pretty much. Not gonna do anything with anyone at the institute because I don't even want to think of the consequences.

One of my cleaners offered me a massage a few days ago, and this other servant gave me flowers on like the second day (and they're probably the best looking two of the house staff)... yeah, no. I don't even care about caste or whatever, but I'd rather keep things separate.

It came out last Summer, and it was terrible. Jack and Barbossa search for the Fountain of Youth, Will's obnoxious personality was replaced with some evangelist idiot, there are Mermaids that drink human blood. And that's all I remember. I won't be seeing the next one.

I thought the intention was always to make at least 2 more? Could have just been rumors, I guess. In any case, the last movie pretty much proved that they'll be milking this franchise as long as they possibly can.

Only what I read after curiosity lead me to Google it. Smiley: grin

I can sympathize with the 8-core computer thing though. We have like 5-6 of them here we do our spectrum matching stuff on. It's like a poor mans cluster really. Love them because they are very cheap, and easy to use; it's nice not having to have a dedicated tech support person doing maintenance on that. Not so fond of the fact that x8 doesn't really speed things up a whole lot. Had someone bugging me for data on Monday and I had to explain that the searches would take 3-4 days to run, and another day or so to compile the results into something meaningful to them. People will eventually learn not to give me samples a week before their grant deadline. Smiley: rolleyes

So you have my sympathies. I hope your stuff finishes up soon. Smiley: smile

While I know nothing of your field, I know how it feels to be asked to deliver stuff on an impossible deadline so you have my sympathies, one can only hope that some day, people will learn to grasp the basic fact that most sh*t takes a little time regardless of the deadline you've been ignoring right up until you're way too late to make it.

Edit: Well, this is disturbing... -YES OF COURSE THIS IS NSFW. IT'S SOMETHING I FIND DISTURBING.-

Why would someone even draw pictures of something like that...

The pirates movie: I thought I remembered hearing about a 4th one being made, but I don't remember hearing about it being released. And it somehow still made a little over a billion dollars worldwide? Smiley: dubious I didn't see many movies last year due to being so poor, but you'd think I'd at least have heard about it... weird. The concept of vampire mermaids is just retarded. The rest doesn't sound so bad. I kind of want to watch it once just out of curiosity.

I think we're 60% girls at work. Pretty girls. Pretty guys, too.

Protein, it wouldn't bother me if not for the fact that we have a cluster, it's available to me for my projects, but my projects require software that isn't configured on it (we tried).

FYI, the thing that I left running when I was finished with work (that I put on at 9:45 in the morning) was Fe(en)2Cl2. So it's not like it's something large or fancy. Actually, that's about the size where DFT starts being a valid approach, as far as I've seen.

And then, because it's my boss' computer, I'm actually only running the simulation on 2 cores with 1GB RAM (using 100% of that, but still).

As for those pictures, I think they're kind of... nice? I need to get off 4chan? Not that I'm really on it much.

Also, I met someone off OkC today. From the "outside world". Apparently this place is pretty much the cleanest part of the country and when said person entered my room it was just like "Woah, you have this whole room to yourself?!?" - starting to realise how much preferential treatment there is, I mean I've gotten a free bag of crisps and a free can of peach juice (WITH BITS!) off random strangers in public just by... being white. I'm somewhere between really happy and appalled about this.
I thought it was mostly just that I have electricity and A/C everywhere I go that was different.

Somehow I have trouble imagining you with another woman, it just doesn't seem to make sense to me. Unless the other woman is pretty dominant, then it works.

Edit: nBooya Kali, I passed you on comment karma. EAT THAT! Smiley: grin

Some mermaid lore involves them using their beauty to lure sailors to their deaths. Not too much of a stretch, really.
