Uh, the thing here is that they won't slow down for you. They just kinda drive around you. Especially the rickshaws...

And at least in busy areas, there is no break in the flow of cars, rickshaws and random other vehicles. Everyone crosses the road by just walking without caring, even my non-native acquaintances...

That's really not at all different than here. I get the feeling that you guys are from places where pedestrians and drivers don't pay attention to their surroundings when they're out and about. Smiley: dubious My borough has more than two million people, most of whom cross wherever the heck they feel like, and can't say there's is any real incident.

At least it makes spotting tourists easy.

I don't remember that about NYC...

I guess I'll get used to it. Or something.

I know I'm late to this discussion, but point of order: Nearly all pinots will need to be aerated unless you just love being over-blown by earthy/mossy flavors =P The older a pinot gets, the more it needs to breathe for the flavors to properly balance.

Well that's special. I got a job offer from one of the restaurants I applied at, but when I explained my schedule for play performances, she had to rescind the offer because she needs someone to work nights and weekends. Sad thing is, this has nothing to do with the upcoming pirate play, she wanted me to start today and I couldn't because I have two weeks left of Grease performances. But she did say that she really wanted to hire me so when I'm done with plays, I should come down there and talk to her and she'll see if she has room for me. So I'm going to make a mad dash to try and find a morning job somewhere in the next couple of weeks. If I can't, then I'll go see if she can still use me once Grease is over and I'll have to turn down the part in the pirate play. Smiley: frown

I don't think it has anything to do with people being afraid of getting run over. Walking a red light is against the law and will cost you money, so why bother? It's not like it takes hours for the light to switch to green. Longest I've ever waited on a green light was one minute. Getting caught while crossing a red light will cost me $100. I can wait one minute if it'll save me $100.

But when the chance of actually getting fined that $100 is about 1 in a million, would you rather save the $100 or the close to 2 years of time spent waiting?

You're comparing one fine ($100) to a lifetime of waiting for green lights (two years). You're assuming I'll only get caught once if I walk every red light for the next 40+ years, which is very unlikely.

One in a million doesn't mean I get a million free passes, it just means there's a very slim chance I'll get caught every time. Knowing my luck, I'd get caught the first time, in which case I would have spent $100 on saving 60 seconds of my life. I spent more time writing this post.

Also, it's not one in a million. Assuming you walk five intersections a day on average, it would take 547 years to reach a million. I've seen more than one police car while waiting for the green lights and I've only lived 26 years so far.

I don't know where you're getting your $100 fine, but here it's only $2.

I may have gotten a little bit drunk earlier. Or a lot drunk. But I've never actually sobered up while awake before. It's kinda interesting.

Walking/bicycling/driving a red light costs 700 DKK here, which is ~118 USD.

Edit: Actually, I just checked, bicycling costs 1000 DKK (~168 USD) and driving costs 2000 DKK (~337 USD).

Jaywalking in NYC is only $2? Smiley: confused Why do they even bother ticketing you guys in the first place?
#15892 May 26 2012 at 12:12 AM Rating: Good
In Germany, it used to be €30 or something (so what, $35-40?) for cyclists, that's all I know.

In Pakistan, all this sort of stuff depends on a lot of factors, I think. Like how well you can haggle, if you can pretend you know someone high up in the police personally and convince people it's true, if you actually do know someone important... Smiley: lol
Apparently the immigration guy at the border was expecting a bribe from me - I didn't even check that until later.

...corruption.

It is a bizarre feeling for sure. It sucks when you're depressed though. I did that once a few years back and swore I'd never do it again. If you're going to get drunk when you're depressed, it's best to get drunk enough to pass out. Coming off the buzz when you were already happy though, that isn't too bad.

Eh, not really. Most pinots are drinkable from the bottle unless you're drinking older stuff, like you said. The minimal amount of aeration needed mostly happens in the glass and the open bottle, unless you're chugging it.

It's mainly due to the tannins; more tannins, more aeration. Less tannins, less aeration.

The hell is that?

Edit: Also, Eurovision Song Contest sucks so hard. This is the presumed winner. Generic beat. Incomprehensible singing. Weird *** karate choreography. It's like the people voting in this contest are permanently stuck in 1999 or something.

If you still doubt that I'm right about ESC sucking, this is the Russian song (winner of the Russian Song Contest).

Seriously, where do you find this crap Aeth? Smiley: lol

My cat is seriously starting to **** me off with this waking me up at 5:30 in the morning, and then refusing to go outside because one of the other cats *might* be out in the hall, crap. If my body would let me go back to sleep, I probably wouldn't care, but it's not. Getting 5 hours of sleep and then taking a nap later in the day does not do my body good. Nor my temper.
