Coffee is awesome. Just wish it perked up the mind more. I'll be sitting here and my body is slowly waking up. It'll be all ready to up and do stuff, and my brain is stuck in neutral staring at the computer screen.

Like now.

Depends on the coffee. I can't stand Coffee Shop type coffees, like from StarBucks or Dunkin Donuts. I go to this hole-in-the-wall deli and get a cup for less than a buck in a little blue cup. I don't have to argue with the person on what type of coffee I want. I said coffee, which means I want f'in coffee. Then I go to my office and drop a shot of Baileys in when no one is looking and I'm happy for the rest of the day.

Until I want another cup of coffee, which after the first I don't add the Baileys to subsequent cups.

On that note, my sis-in-law was in NYC for a week last month. Her biggest complaint? She couldn't find a decent cup of coffee all week.

Well that and her BF booked their flight with a transfer in San Francisco. Hello flight delays!

GRMBL. Mother@#%^ing clients.
I got an email today that stated that the photo I used in one of the flyers I made them was "totally unacceptable". They sent it to me as the photo I HAD to use.

First they send me about a thousand pics to sort through wanting em to use positive, happy photos. Then the photos I pick make people look "too handicapped", the flyers are for a non profit organization who provide day care/jobs for mentally handicapped people, they want to advertise their stuff to mentally handicapped people and their parents but the people in the flyers can not look mentally handicapped (But perfectly happy)? Then they send me pics I have to use and when I use them I get told that some of those photos are totally unacceptable... WTF GUYS, ARE YOU RETARDED!?
Also endless new versions of text and even after a dozen revises and checks I STILL had to correct basic spelling and grammar mistakes.

Yes, I used retarded on purpose there. They deserve it.

Tell them it's their fault for not growing enough cells, and to come back in a month or two with more protein and you'll try again. Smiley: nod

Works for me.

That sucks though, sounds like they've really been a pain. Smiley: frown

Yeah, I haven't flown that much, but every single time I've had a connection in SF there have been delays. Stupid fog. When I was 16, flying back from a funeral for my great grandmother was the worst. We got held up there for around 10 hours in the middle of MAY! And the worst part, was that I was supposed to get kidnapped by the kids in the Natl Honor Society the next morning around like 4 or 5 am as part of an induction ritual. My mom wasn't supposed to tell me about it, but she did just so I would know since I wouldn't be getting much sleep and all. I don't think we got back home until around 2am or so, because after leaving SF we had to fly to the Arcata airport, and then drive all the way back up to Brookings.

Oh, and I like Monsters. >.> The green ones anyways, the others are icky. My favorite energy drinks though, are the lemonade flavored Amps and the Blue Demon. I think it's made by Rockstar, but I don't remember. It's got blue aguave in it and it's so yummy. I miss energy drinks. =/

They're just horribly unprofessional and seem to fail to grasp that they're sending out a very bad message by saying that mentally handicapped people looking like mentally handicapped people is a bad thing.

Sounds like your sister in law is a complete and utter failure at life. Serious. If you can't find a decent anything in NYC then it's time to bite down on a cyanide pill.

It's ironic, because NYC basically invented the cheap black coffee on the street for under a dollar.

Most of the west coast flies through SFO or LAX to get to the east coast unless you fly with Alaska Airlines or United, then you generally go through ORD (Chicago), or DEN (Denver).

Yes, I've flown way too much. I'm in the hundreds of thousands of miles flown and I'm only 27.

Clients are like that. I'm lucky in that most of my clients know my family (or at least my dad), so they can't act ridiculous. I set up in my first meeting with them their expectations, write it down in the contract I have them sign (which is legally binding), and if they choose to break it, I still get paid for my time.

Especially when it's art-involved, make sure they know that you know more than they ever will on the subject and explain your reasoning fully. Set up what their expectations should be and provide a paper trail that you can go back and point at when they're like "THAT'S NOT WHAT YOU SAID WE'D GET" and say, "uh yeah, in this email I said ______ and that's what you've got".

It's funny when you get litigious with clients, all of a sudden they calm down and act very professionally instead of acting like they have a telephone pole up their ***.

Yeah I don't think cheap and black is her idea of coffee. More like some espresso thing that takes you longer to say than to make.

I like being able to walk into a deli and saying "light and sweet" and walking out with coffee. I don't like asking for my drink and arguing with what "light and sweet" could possibly mean, and then being told a menu worth of variations of what I could possibly have.

Me: "I want a small black coffee"

Guy: "Morning Roast, Fair Trade, or Full Bodied?"

Me: *blank stare* "um... whatever's easiest I guess."

I've never been able to figure out why people like it. If I want something warm I'll drink hot chocolate since it's delicious, and if I want something cold I'll drink water or gatorade.

Caffeine is bad for you.

Caffeine is only bad for you if you go crazy with it. Coffee, and cocoa are actually both really good for you, as long as there isn't a ton of milk and sugar added to it. They're supposed to help prevent heart disease I think.

I don't drink coffee a lot though, never have. I don't like the idea of being dependent on any sort of chemical, so I only have coffee or energy drinks when I need them, or on the rare occasion where I just want one. Somehow I'm able to subconsciously exclude my meds from my dislike of being dependent on chemicals. I've majorly cut down on my soda intake since I moved back in with my parents too. I might have one or two a week now, if that.

It was a last minute job and got us a new client though, so that's ok with me and next time we'll get things sorted properly. I just needed to get that out of my system.

It keeps amazing me how people just don't seem to have a clue about what they want nor how to show that. Then again. that's what I'm supposed to be earning my pay with for the foreseeable future so I can't complain.

Also I now have a 50mm F1.4 lens. F1.4 is sexy <3

That's not coffee anymore.
I like cappuccino but I fully admit that that's coffee for pussies, if you add caramel syrup and what not just makes it a warm sugary drink and not coffee.

Too true.

How does she like her coffee? Turkish? French? Italian?

Maybe she prefers tea?

Interested in some Japanese baked goods? Maybe you want some amazing, Turkish spinach and chicken (which happens to be the most delicious meal I've ever had--seriously, anyone in NYC should go). No? Okay, then how about Tibetan food?

Etc. :P

I know, right? But I grew up in Chicago and I'm kind of crazy about what I put into my body (the only medication I take is for my allergies so I can actually function from March to June), so I think I have an excuse. Coffee isn't good for you in the form we can get it.

No, caffeine is bad for you. If something taken in large doses is harmful, then even in low doses it's not good for you, it just isn't actively harming you.

Linky, we keep some of the pure stuff in the lab as a standard for some of the instruments.

Quote:
Toxicity to Animals: Acute oral toxicity (LD50): 127 mg/kg [Mouse].
Chronic Effects on Humans:
CARCINOGENIC EFFECTS: 3 (Not classifiable for human.) by IARC. MUTAGENIC EFFECTS: Mutagenic for mammalian
somatic cells. Mutagenic for bacteria and/or yeast. May cause damage to the following organs: heart, gastrointestinal tract,
central nervous system (CNS).
Other Toxic Effects on Humans: Hazardous in case of skin contact (irritant), of ingestion, of inhalation.
Special Remarks on Toxicity to Animals:
LDL [Human] - Route: Oral; Dose: 192mg/kg LDL [Woman] - Route: Oral; Dose; 400 mg/kg LDL [Child] - Route: Oral; Dose:
320 mg/kg
Special Remarks on Chronic Effects on Humans:
May cause adverse reproductive effects (fetotoxicity, maternal (parnutrition) and birth defects. May affect genetic material
(mutagenic). May cause cancer (tumorgenic) based on animal data.
Special Remarks on other Toxic Effects on Humans:
Acute Potential Health Effects: Skin: May cause skin irritation. Eyes: Dust may cause mechanical irritation. Inhalation: May
cause respiratory tract irritation. Ingestion: Harmful if swallowed in large amounts. May cause gastrointestinal (digestive)
tract irritation with epigastric pain, abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Affects metabolism and cardiovascular
system with symptoms including increase in metabolism, flushing, palpitations, rapid heart rate, dysrhythmias, hypotension,
blood pressure elevation and weight loss, metabolic acidosis. May affect brain and behavior/central nervous system..
Symptoms may include nervousness, anxiety, restlessness, insomnia, dizziness, tremor, seizures, convulsions, hallucinations,
somnolence, toxic psychosis, tremors, convulsions, ataxia. May also affect blood, respiration (hyperventilation), and urinary
system (mild increase in urinary volume and urinary sodium excretion), and may directly produce hypokalemia. Chronic
Potential Health Effects: May cause cancer (tumorigen) based on animal studies. May cause reproductive and fetal effects.
May cause digestive tract disturbances (increased gastric acid, and pepsin secretion and a decrease in lower esophogeal
sphincter pressure), cardiovascular disturbances. Since it is a CNS stimulant, it may also affect the Central Nervous System
(CNS).

Fun stuff. Smiley: nod

That's not actually true though. It's an interesting idea, but something can be good for you in certain doses and bad for you in different doses. Take water, or salt.
