Christ, I could've bought a second GFX card for that kind of money.

I like the design, though, except for the upside down Roman numerals and the excessive "look at the authenticity" text. I get the feeling they're selling a brand, not a watch. Still, I like the design.

Well, they are selling a brand. Tissot has been one of the premier watch makers in the world since 1853 (hence why 1853 is on the face). They're known for extremely high quality and very low prices. Seiko, Citizen, Wenger, etc are all in the same kind of range.

And as far as watches go, for a sapphire crystal front (i.e. best quality) and a swiss automatic (i.e. best quality automatic movement), the price they're asking for is really reasonable. If you want to see outrageous, check Rado, Rolex, Omega, etc. Flashy watches that look like sh*t and cost over $2000 in most cases (Rolex is generally ten times that because of the brand name).

People that know watches tend to stay away from designer watches (Michael Kors, Kenneth Cole, Diesel, Nixon, etc) because they tend to be far more overpriced than a Tissot, Seiko, etc. When you buy a watch it should be a watch that you can pass onto your son or grandson, not a watch that you throw away in a few years.

My current watch is a Citizen Eco-drive after owning sh*tty designer watches for the last five years or so.

The watch I'm far more likely to get than the Tissot is actually really similar, but doesn't require winding/setting if you don't wear it for a couple days. It's not as nice as the Tissot, which is the reason that I love the Tissot and am kinda just "oh, I like that one" with the Citizen. You can see some of the differences when you look at the two closely, hands aren't as nice, the face doesn't look as good, and the band doesn't look as good on the Citizen.

I refuse to buy a watch that doesn't have a sapphire crystal face after getting so many of my old watches scratched. Sapphire crystal is going to resist scratches from pretty much anything but diamonds, which is something I love.

Anyway, if anyone ever needs a watch recommendation (gifts, new watch for work, etc), I'm the guy to go to. Smiley: grin

Or saved a little more money and bought a GTX 680. My computer completely died today, so I'm using a PoS laptop for the moment. Can't even play LoL without ***** frame rates. At least I figured out what was wrong with my computer. I just need to fork out $250 for a new 2500k. I'll probably grab a hyper 212+ while I'm at it, although I'm gonna have to check and see what the clearance of the cooler is because my RAM might be too high.

I hate computers sometimes Smiley: frown

Probably something no one here expected: Theo has a watch obsession.

I got my Dad one of these, if not that one that it is the closest I found on the site, about 14 years ago for X-mas when I was selling watches.

I rock one of these when I wear I watch, again closest approximation.

I also has watch obsession. I sold them for years and greatly appreciate nice time piece. I also have a nice sterling silver pocket watch that needs a new movement. Pocket watches are awesome.

I'm not a fan of two-tones (as you can probably tell from my watch selection here), but that's a very, very nice Tissot.

Also, super jealous that you have a Hamilton. I admire their watches greatly; pretty much the only American company besides Ball that makes a good timepiece. I don't really have the kind of cash to drop on a Hamilton, so I stick with Citizen and Tissot because I like having more than one watch.

I agree about pocket watches; it's incredibly rude—I feel—to check your phone for the time when you're out. Pocket watches are great for people that don't necessarily want a watch but want to know the time without appearing rude. Plus as three-piece suits are sick, I feel a pocket watch complements them well.

You can tell a lot about a person from what kind of watch they wear. G-Shock with a suit? $20,000 Rolex with a suit you bought off the peg? Of course it's not always accurate, but I enjoy noting other people's watches.

It doesn't surprise me in the least actually, it fits the playboy image you seem to go for with the pretty boy looks, the sexy ladies and the fancy wine.

And it's pretty nice, although I don't like that type of wristband, at least it's not one of those ridiculously over the top ones where they've tried to cram everything into one huge watch.
Also, looking through that site: This one's cooler imo

Oh and Tissot makes some very expensive and absolutely hideous watches as well: It looks like the cheap watch my little brother got for his 10th birthday, just 20 times as expensive and with a bunch more gadgets squeezed in there.

I'm as much of a minimalist when it comes to watches as I was for UI's though. I want to be able to see the time on there and I want it to look good, I don't want any other bullsh*t. The more I can see of the materials it's made of the better as well, no fancy colours, no plastic and no shiny leather for me. Add well designed to that and I won't be getting a watch until I can afford to spend close to $1k on one...

EDIT: I really need coffee... badly. I've managed to forget to quote, miss the new page and my spelling is utter ****. Monday morning ftw.

Oh and also, I kinda like swatch, but mostly because they make me think of the stuff H.R. Giger has done with those watches.
I can't find anything more interesting than this on google right now but he's made all sorts of strange and cool things with the basic shape of a cheap swatch watch.

Using your phone to check the time has become standard today. Everyone's got a phone, far from everyone's got a watch. There are times where I don't feel like flashing the iPhone in front of everyone (tux occasions), but us experienced techno kids can check the time on the phone just as quickly and discreetly as someone checking his or her wristwatch/pocket watch.

It's all in the wrist. Smiley: tongue

But yeah, if you're going for the 40-year-old playboy (and I don't mean this in a negative way), wearing a silver wristwatch with a suit/tux is nice. Just don't wear gold, it's too much... mafia.

Every watch company makes some hideous watches; that's what fashion does.

I tend to like the bracelet band because on high end watches they're very comfortable and doesn't require a lot of effort to put on (and doesn't wear out like leather). On cheaper watches they'll pinch arm hair and all of that, which is why all of my cheaper watches have leather bands (or polyurethane in the case of my surfing watch).

While I will admit that that is a gorgeous watch, Theo... I am far too lazy to ever use an analog watch. I want to be able to glance at my watch and be able to know what time it is without thinking. An analog watch with roman numerals makes it that much more difficult, because then I have to remember which batch of letters means what number. Using a digital watch is just so much easier.

Maz, are you sure you aren't Swedish talking about pickled herrings and all?

Also, good fish is amazing. I've had ahi before, and I like it quite a bit. I've never heard of those other two before though. I love salmon, albacore tuna, and mahi mahi. A good halibut or cod is tasty too. And sushi rolls too... I love me some spicy tuna rolls. Or a philadelphia roll, the kind with salmon, cream cheese and avocado. Crab is okay depending on how it's prepared. It's pretty good in a melt, i.e. a sandwich with melted cheese. Lobster tends to be too rich for me. If I eat too much of it I get a stomach ache. I grew up with commercial fishermen in my family though, so I've always had access to good fish.

Seriously though Aeth, if you ever come out here to visit I want to take you to a good fish restaurant. If your experience with fish is that limited, you have been missing out.

The thing is, within a very very short period of time you will know what time it is pretty much instantly just by glancing at the hands. You don't have to figure out what time it is each time, no more then you have to figure out what a word sounds like when you read it, or that 7:45 is quarter to 8.

It's surprising how often "fashion" is just absolutely hideous. And I personally love the look of slightly worn leather. A good leather product only gets more beautiful with age. (Until it starts to fall apart anyway)

Analog clocks are really just as easy to read as digital ones, and digital watches are pretty much all hideous things.
Plus, half the reason for wearing a watch is to show you've got money and style. If you just want to know the time you could just as well look at your phone anyway.

There's not much I don't like but so far, fish is one of those things. Asparagus that is not made into soup, foie gras (Smells like catfood, seriously), chicory and the seaweed stuff they put on sushi being the others. Oh and cheap whiskey, but I don't think anyone actually likes cheap whiskey.

Totally can respect that. If you don't need to wear a watch and you don't want to, don't.

For me, watches are art. A great watch is something that other people can admire (like the outrageously hot teller at the bank today that admired my watch when I went to deposit a check...may have to do away with direct deposit from work so I can go in more) and that I appreciate wearing. I have different watches for different occasions for the same reasons I have different shoes.

Like Xsarus said, even with my black-on-black watch, telling time is simple. In fact, I think it's often easier to tell the time on an analog watch than it is on a digital.

I like the look as well, but a lot of high end watch makers are going towards croc-patterned leather on their bands, which I find ugly and tacky. Dull, expensive-looking leather like you find on a great leather jacket is what I look for, which is why I only really have one watch with a leather band.

Style almost necessitates money, so pretty much just style. Moreover, it shows taste.

I agree with you there, the fake croc pattern is pointless and ugly.

It sucks that style necessitates money as much as it does because I've got little money to spare which means I can only very rarely afford to buy the things I like. Also see my post about summer jackets a few pages back. Also the shoes linked in that post...

Good shoes are really @#%^ing expensive anyway, it's so ridiculously hard to find a good looking pair of shoes for less than €200. (And the good brands are never on sale...)

I completely agree with you. I was lucky to walk into a 70% off sale in a leather store to get my spring/summer jacket for about $70 (it's not leather, just a very nice jacket).

I also walk through Nordstrom every day and a friend works there, so when things go on sale, I tend to buy in bulk. Same thing at Macy's. I just got Varvatos boat shoes for $104 (normally $198).

So yeah, I'm patient and I horde money, then I splurge on sales. Oh, and I only really wear tshirts most of the year, and I get the $7 ones from Target. Smiley: tongue
