Well, they are selling a brand. Tissot has been one of the premier watch makers in the world since 1853 (hence why 1853 is on the face). They're known for extremely high quality and very low prices. Seiko, Citizen, Wenger, etc are all in the same kind of range.
And as far as watches go, for a sapphire crystal front (i.e. best quality) and a swiss automatic (i.e. best quality automatic movement), the price they're asking for is really reasonable. If you want to see outrageous, check Rado, Rolex, Omega, etc. Flashy watches that look like sh*t and cost over $2000 in most cases (Rolex is generally ten times that because of the brand name).
People that know watches tend to stay away from designer watches (Michael Kors, Kenneth Cole, Diesel, Nixon, etc) because they tend to be far more overpriced than a Tissot, Seiko, etc. When you buy a watch it should be a watch that you can pass onto your son or grandson, not a watch that you throw away in a few years.
My current watch is a
Citizen Eco-drive after owning sh*tty designer watches for the last five years or so.
The
watch I'm far more likely to get than the Tissot is actually really similar, but doesn't require winding/setting if you don't wear it for a couple days. It's not as nice as the Tissot, which is the reason that I love the Tissot and am kinda just "oh, I like that one" with the Citizen. You can see some of the differences when you look at the two closely, hands aren't as nice, the face doesn't look as good, and the band doesn't look as good on the Citizen.
I refuse to buy a watch that doesn't have a sapphire crystal face after getting so many of my old watches scratched. Sapphire crystal is going to resist scratches from pretty much anything but diamonds, which is something I love.
Anyway, if anyone ever needs a watch recommendation (gifts, new watch for work, etc), I'm the guy to go to.
