Holy crap Theo, you look like a completely different person without the devilishly sexy goatee. Your ex really is pretty smoking. It's too bad that so few people that are that attractive have intelligence and personality to go with it. I think I'll stick with being a 7 (that's what I'd rate myself anyways) who is smarter than most, and has an awesome personality.

I really need to take some newer pictures of myself. I've lost almost 20 pounds in the last three months, and it'd be nice to have some better pics up on facebook. My avatar has been a picture of my cat for too long. Pet week was well over a month ago, but I don't feel a particularly strong urge to change my avatar back to me with fat face. But here's a picture of me from the last time I weighed about what I do now. My hair is a lot longer now, and my skin isn't anywhere near that clear. Proactiv is the sh*t. I really should use that stuff again.

Well, from about a year ago, I was like 185 lbs. I'm 166 lbs now (I'm 6'0" or 6'1" depending on who's measuring), 8-9% body fat. So I've probably lost about 30-40 lbs of fat and gained 10-20 of muscle. That's probably the biggest difference, but yeah.

And yes, my ex is amazingly beautiful. That's not a great picture of her (or me, really).

Meh, you both look pretty good to me. You don't look anywhere near overweight there, just for the record.

I never was. 185 is pretty much perfectly normal (almost a little underweight) for my height. I'm almost at endurance athlete weight for my height (underweight for most people) now, though.
#14130 Mar 27 2012 at 5:02 PM Rating: Good
I know it's a normal weight for your height. I was just figuring that if you had lost that much weight that you thought you were overweight when you weighted 185.

Do you have any idea how to go about actually being able to show off arm definition for a woman? I've been lifting dumbells for a few weeks, and while I can feel a distinct difference when I flex my arms and squeeze, they don't look any different because I still have some fat on my upper arms. My forearms look pretty impressive when I flex, but it'd be nice for my upper arms to look buff too. =x

Arm definition is almost solely depend on the fat to muscle ratio and how you've built the muscle. How are you lifting the dumbbells? Hammer curls, bicep curls, etc? Just doing bicep curls won't really cause muscle definition, as almost all muscle definition (which is really the only thing I've been aiming for since I started working out 3 years ago) is from working out muscle groups rather than individual muscles.

If toning and shaping is what you're going for (as women almost always are; there are really few women that want to be beastly ripped), working out your shoulders and back are going to help as well as working out your arms (triceps, biceps, brachial). Pushups and pull-ups are pretty much the easiest and best way to tone and shape those muscles as well as using your upper arms.

Also, cardio. I know it's like the worst thing in the world, but if you're trying to burn fat, just do a ton of cardio. Ride a bike or run or swim a lot.

But yeah, that's pretty much all I worked on for the past year, getting my upper body trim. I only work out an hour a day every day and haven't changed my eating habits and I've gotten to where I am. The first time I flexed and someone was like, "holy ****, I can see every vein in your arms!" was a pretty awesome moment. I'm not quite where my boss at work is, where his veins and arteries stand out on his arms all the time (he's basically a gymnast, he does cross-fit, look up the workouts on youtube), but I'm proud of myself.

I agree with what Theo said, Pigtails. I've started to redefine my arms back to when I was in karate and trying to rebuild my upper body strength. I've been doing a mixture of different curls, along with back workouts (such as the row pull), and I can't remember the name of it for the life of me, but it's a thing set at an angle that you lean over, grab some weight and pull yourself up (sort of like an elevated reverse crunch). That's helped with toning my back.

Awesome job with losing weight too! Looking pretty schmexy =P

Pushups are great for shoulders, triceps, and pecs. You want to do enough to where when you're done you won't be able to push yourself up off the ground and have to roll over and sit up just to stand. Also, you want to alternate the way you do them to get the most out of your workout. Do a dozen or so normal, then pull your arms in and do another dozen, then widen your arm position and do yet another dozen, then find something to put your legs up on like a coffee table or low couch and finish up that way. Rest for a minute, then repeat.

That's pretty much my pushup routine. I do five sets of about thirty each.

* Oh, and not daily. You want to alternate your workouts. Give one set of muscles time to rest while breaking down another set.

It depends on what you're looking for. I don't care much about being ripped, so working out nearly every day and doing the same thing with minor variances has worked well for me.

I think what it comes down to is that I appreciate beer, but I don't go out of my way to get it because it doesn't taste good enough to me. Craft beer (at least in this part of the world) generally doesn't taste great.
Ah ok, plenty of good breweries around there as well. Although I guess you're not much of a fan of hops? US craft brewers have a tendency to add more hops to just about anything. Still, most of the exciting things in the world of beer are happening in the US at the moment.

You look so young and innocent there... That's not how I know you. Well, not the innocent part anyway. Smiley: sly

Well, I wasn't into kink yet (although I was definitely curious), but I was still far from innocent, lol.

I have been doing multiple muscle groups for my upper body.

Standing Inner-Biceps Curl:
10 lb x 10 reps (+16 pts)
Hammer Dumbbell Curl:
10 lb x 10 reps (+21 pts)
Tricep Dumbbell Kickback:
10 lb x 10 reps (+27 pts)
Machine Chest Fly (Pec Deck):
10 lb x 10 reps (+10 pts)
Hammer Grip Incline Dumbbell Bench Press:
10 lb x 10 reps (+32 pts)
Standing Dumbbell Shoulder Press:
10 lb x 10 reps (+38 pts)
Bent Over Barbell Row:
10 lb x 10 reps (+24 pts)

Those are some examples copy and pasted from my fitocracy profile. They didn't have all of the exercises I've been doing, but they had most of them. I bought the three Biggest Loser books a few years back, and I've been following the exercise regimen in there. Say what you will about the show, but they do have a good workout and diet plan. I'm pretty restricted in terms of what sort of weight lifting I can do though. I don't have a gym membership, so I've just been using the dumb bells my step-dad has laying around. 10 lbs probably doesn't sound like a lot, but doing 10-12 reps is about all I can manage for each of those exercises, so I know I'm pushing myself pretty hard. I just need to do the workouts more than once a week, lol. Also, from what I've read it's near impossible for women to bulk up naturally. We just don't have the testosterone to do that. Female body builders are either taking testosterone supplements or steroids. I'll work on doing push ups more often though. I've been doing the overhead pullovers and bent-over rows for my back, but I don't think I'm doing them right. My back muscles don't ever feel sore the day after working out. My biceps, triceps, chest and armpits are, but not my back.
#14137 Mar 27 2012 at 11:48 PM Rating: Good
Oh, and I don't have the upper body strength to do push ups. >.> I have to do the modified variety where you bend your knees and push yourself up and down from there instead of your feet. That's part of why I've been concentrating more on my upper body. That area has always been lacking. As an example, when I was a freshman in high school, I was able to do about a 5 second flex arm hang. At the end of my junior year, after a school year of taking a weights class, I was able to do 35 seconds, weighing about 115 lbs. My max bench press at the start of the year was around 50 lbs and at the end of the year it was around 85.

Really I'm not very strong in general, but my upper body has always been a sore point for me. I've always had pretty nice legs and a great butt (although my legs are pretty skinny), but my arms have always been pretty shapeless. Thin, but shapeless, and no real strength to speak of. Thank the gods I'm flexible. Those were the only physical fitness tests I ever did well in, lol. Never quite good enough to get on the board of record breakers, but I was usually pretty close.

That's fine. When doing them keep one leg down and lift the other leg completely off the ground, do as many as you can, then alternate. I've found the fastest way to get definition is through alternating the way you do things to keep your muscles from becoming accustomed to what you're doing. While I was in Afghanistan I took the P90x classes three times a week, because ... well, it was available and I didn't really have anything else to do but exercise. Tore me a new *******, lol, but by the time I got back it was the best I ever looked. I've since lost some of the definition because I have options of things to do, but overall I'd highly recommend it.

Had to make flyers for a client, they provided photos, I got this ****. I had to fix it too.
The ******* moron walks around with over $7k in equipment and doesn't know how to take a photo, how to process his images, how to make a decent selection (got about 1k photos, maybe 25-50 usable ones) and didn't even bother to give his images names I can work with.

That's crazy talk, DJP_2627 is totally descriptive.

It screams "I'm doing this as fast as I can just to get it over with. I'll let that kid I hired sort out the mess." Smiley: nod

I don't particularly like cats either, but my post count has been lagging lately and screaming KITTY is what my daughter does whenever an animal vaguely reminiscent of a cat appears anywhere.

And I am kind of ashamed she learned it from me.

Mine is starting to get into our WoW time.

"go this way"

"horsey jumping!"

"ride the elephant!"

"ride the birdy"

"bear fall down"

"buh bye bear!"

And of course the chocobos from any FF game are now "scary chickens"

Well that's just crazy. They should have just hired you to do the fliers and the photos and saved themselves some money. We all know you're perfectly capable of taking tons of terrible pictures, and you could have done it for half the price. Smiley: nod

I have a crap camera but still take better photos than this guy... and I try to make it as a side-hobby. Hopefully one day, if I can get clients, I can get enough moola to get a nice DSLR.

@#%^ you. Smiley: lol

And I'm guessing that the pictures are old (they all seem to be made during the summer) so at some point they just went "Hey, we need some good photos for our flyers/website/whatever" and "My cousin/brother/uncle/friend is a photographer, he'll probably do it for cheap".

Edit: Noc, if you save up buy a decent body that will last you a few years (something mid to high end consumer so roughly $5-700) and go big for glass, or at the very least get a 50mm F1.8 lens since it's brilliant for portraits and dirt cheap. (for glass anyway, it's still $90-110 or so, but compared to $1500-2200 top end glass it's basically free!).
If money is tight, opt for the good glass and a slightly worse body since a body will last you 4-5 years tops and glass lasts a lifetime.

And as shown above, if you don't know how to shoot in manual buying a big *** camera is a waste of money. Smiley: tongue
