I don't get how anyone can enjoy dubstep or any other purely electronic music, to me it all lacks the life of actual instruments.

And on a different note, I just ordered a Westvleteren 12, Westvleteren 8, De Struise Brouwers Pannepot (2005 vintage) and De Struise Brouwers Cuvee Deplhine.
Alltogether a little pricey but those are some magnificent beers, looking forward to tasting them. Smiley: grin

I enjoy Dubstep. I also have Kool-Aid from r/spiceexchange (more like r/snackexchange, I guess).

Tomorrow, marriage negotiations are scheduled to open. Scared.

Just different tastes, I guess. While it's true that it's not the same as physical instruments, purely electronic music isn't lacking anything in my book - it's just different.

Warning: Before clicking any of the links in this post, make sure your volume isn't cranked too high.

I like some of the new dubstep, but a lot of it still has a tendency to just go wubwubwuuuub ad nauseam. The song has to contain more than just wubwub over some generic techno beat, in my opinion. I dislike generic music and generic dubstep is a snooze fest.

I like most of the dubstep made by DJ Ephixa. He's managed to hit the perfect mix of dubstep and other electronic sounds in his songs - again, in my opinion. He seems to be very fond of the "Transformers" sound effect. And he makes Zeldastep, which is luls. Give You Back Life is pretty cool. It's a remix of an acoustic song someone made for Swifty (the WoW Warrior dude).

Dubstep is also awesome when mixed with certain other genres. Like Feel Good by Modestep. I like how the bass tickles my brain during the chorus. And metalstep is win. Especially since it can be played live, with real instruments.

Dubstep/metalstep needs to be played in HD (720p). There's such a huge difference between 480p and 720p on most dubstep tracks, it's crazy. It also needs to be listened to with a set of good headphones so you can crank up the volume and experience sensory overload without dragging the police into it.

I don't really get how anyone can enjoy death metal or any other screamcore music. To me it all lacks the life of actual vocals.

It's all a matter of degrees.

Oh I know, it wasn't meant as an attack on electronic music and I know many people feel the same about half of what I listen to. It's just so far away from what I want from/seek in music.

Also, today I learned that there are GBA emulators for Android, so now I can play Pokemon on my phone. Yay for more ways to waste time when I don't have my PC or laptop nearby.

I don't get dubstep. Or rather, I don't get what makes it dubstep. It all sounds techno/dance to me. I still can't find anyone that can actually explain the difference.

Well, can you tell the differences between hair metal, death metal, black metal, grindcore, metalcore, deathcore, melodic death metal, progressive black metal, progressive metal, doom metal, new wave of British heavy metal, thrash, hardcore, industrial, new wave of American metal, gothrock, visual kei and who knows what obscure sub-genres I've missed?

Edit: Ooooh, I missed sludge- and stoner metal/rock. And southern metal for as far as you can call that a genre.
Edit2: and Folk metal, pagan metal, viking metal and pirate metal.
Edit3: and ragga-metal, power metal and shock rock, although the last isn't really metal it's close enough to hair metal/glam to be counted imo.
edit4: Oh and nu-metal, shouldn't forget that.
edit5: Almost forgot blackened death metal. And I'm going to stop now... Smiley: tongue

Metal has way way way too many subgenres.

This is a real thing. A real thing that exists.

I'm going to need examples.

And yeah, I can tell between metals pretty well. Not perfectly, but I can still do it. It's damn dubstep that completely throws me for a loop.

Edit: Another example. I love Alestorm. It's all about the keytar:

Dubstep apparently started out as a UK garage/DnB hybrid with some tribal sh*t thrown in, but now it's basically dance music with a more pronounced, and wobbly, bass line, ranging from the almost unnoticeable to the ludicrous, marked by a drop between the intro and main section of the track.

After dubstep became mainstream, people started upping the amounts of wobble bass to hilarious levels, sometimes removing the rest of the background sounds, like so. It sounds incredible stupid, in my opinion. I prefer the bass adding to the song rather than taking from it. Nero's song Promises is a good example of what I'd call discreet dubstep.

Generally I like dubstep more than regular dance music because the latter has a tendency to be "hard" in its style, whereas dubstep, because of the emphasis on wobble, has a more soft, almost liquid, feel to it (think non-Newtonian fluid). I love a good bass line, as long as it doesn't take over the song completely.

Oh, and Skrillex isn't dubstep. Doesn't matter how much his fans want it to be, those eighteen-year-old haiku-writing mother@#%^ers need to get off my internet and go back to whatever Starbucks they came from. I'm not saying Skrillex is bad, but this isn't dubstep.

Edit: The young'uns today think everything with a heavy bass line is dubstep. Deadmau5 isn't dubstep, it's just Skrillex minus the random noise.

Awwwww!

Also, poor thing. 11 is getting fairly old for a dog though so I guess it's not that bad.
Our dog (lives at my dad's place so not really my dog anymore) is 12 now and still mostly the same as she was 10 years ago. Lazy and does anything to get petted. Smiley: tongue
Although she's having more trouble getting up stairs then she used to have.

Yeah, Bella is pretty much the exact same dog now that she was when I first got her, but she's certainly lost a step or two. We used to go jogging in the mornings together, and now it's too much for her. She can't quite jump up on the couch anymore either. Still just as affectionate as ever, though, and let's my daughter get away with pretty much murder. Smiley: laugh
