I like that song.

Random story: My friend in Germany dated this guy who really dug the Cash version of it. This guy didn't speak English, ergo didn't understand the lyrics. Thought it was a happy song.

This song is actually really sad once you know what the lyrics mean... heh. Punjabis again.

Today was awesome! Islam Awareness Day (i.e. fun times!), Syria bakesale/fundraiser. When the fundraising Syrians packed up their food, I was asking one of them if we could make an appointment to start Qur'an lessons (she teaches at the central mosque here) and this other woman overheard it and her spontaneous reaction was to give me lots of leftover food. To be fair, I'd paid £3 for food (plus additional donation) there earlier.

Then there was this lovely woman from Iran I met on the bus months ago who was visiting my uni for these events today so I met her again, exchanged contact details, and we sat on the floor at uni for like half an hour just talking about random stuff, while of course everyone I knew had to walk by and she thought that was interesting, with people stopping for a minute every few minutes. University is just funny like that...
I'm thinking if I can establish contacts in Iran through her I might go there in the summer. She also said that her brother works as a contractor in Afghanistan at the moment and that Kabul is really safe and peaceful now. It's a little tempting.

And then back at home it was my flatmates' wedding anniversary party and there was more awesome free food (almost too much). Yay.

Yeah, no, I still can't take Punjabi seriously. Smiley: lol

It did, however, make me think of this song which is awesome and all sorts of win.

Edit: I'm not going to lie, Felicia Day in that outfit has something to do with it.

I like some country, just not the old school twangy crap. It grates on my nerves. Most of the country from the 90's I like, because for most of my tween and early teen years I liked country to spite my mother's hatred of it, and you can't really help but like music you grew up listening to.

I still love The Dixie Chicks though. They will always be awesome in my eyes.

I made the most amazing lamb biryani today.

Also need to have Surah Al-Fatiha (i.e. the first chapter of the Qur'an) memorised by Monday afternoon. Hmm.

On the other hand, I've had a (completely not Islam related) moment of random awesome understanding of Arabic puns and grammar last night. Like, I discovered a pun and when looking for evidence to prove it was one I discovered a grammatical thing and just understood it like that.
