The thing is, most of those have alternatives; shutting down gmail would be huge because lots of universities heavily rely on that.

All the more reason they should do it. I don't think many people understand the kind of collateral damage this bill is set to cause. If Google blacks out and suddenly all these universities go into OMGWTF mode, maybe someone will pay attention.

Google and FB should both join Reddit for the blackout IMO.

They definitely should. The more sites that would be affected by this bill black out for one day the more noticeable it becomes how devastating this bill can/will be if it comes into effect. (Or how ineffective, because you just can't go and shut down google, nobody wants google to shut down.)

How would you know, you haven't watched mine!

Not all of it, anyway.

In other news, I got an A in my last exam, too. Did so badly in the lab that it's a B overall (so far), though, for that module. Smiley: frown

I think Kali is pretty much disappointed in her own results if she's got less than a 90% score on any test.

I guess I just have lower standards. Honestly, I'm pleased as long as I get a B on any assignment or test. I try to aim for A's, but that doesn't happen often.

Kali has very very high standards for herself because she only ever compares herself to people who are better than her at, well, whatever it is she's looking at. Smiley: tongue

Why wouldn't someone have high standards for themselves? I've always held the belief that if your standards aren't just out of your reach, then you've got nothing to strive for to better yourself.

I'm all for high standards for yourself as long as you can still look back on what you've accomplished and be proud of that. (admittedly, that last one's a bit tricky)
#12498 Jan 13 2012 at 6:44 PM Rating: Good
What Aeth said. There's nothing wrong with having high standards for yourself, as long as you don't beat yourself up about it if you don't reach them. Not that I have any room to talk in that department... But then again, I don't even have that high of standards for myself, and I can't seem to reach those. I'm hoping when we find the right dosage for my ADHD meds, and I start getting some counseling for life strategies, that will help.

To be fair, I'm already resolved to overtake my two classroom friends' grades (they are the two people I talk to the most by a long shot and they both got a 90% or so average this semester).

The thing is, I anticipate a 10% drop between this year and graduation, and both of the postgrads I'm really interested in are super competitive (read: accept 20 or so students and prefer non-EU students). Which means I need more than an A average to get in, and I'm currently not really achieving much more than that. I'm taking into account that I skipped a year, but that still doesn't mean I won't have to work harder.
There are a few other viable postgrad options, but they might be even harder to get into and will actually put me into noticeable debt.

I've tried estimating my debt for my undergrad and for this year, I should be able to keep it below £1000; my total student debt caps at 10 grand anyway, but I'd like to keep it lower. Say, under 5k.

Other thing: So it's my flatmates' wedding anniversary today and they told their friends that I got all these A's and one of them has decided that I now need to take all of them out for a meal. That's at least 20% of my spending money for next month gone, and I need to pay for my Pak visa... ugh.
