The band has released nine music videos but made personal appearances in only the first two, which the band states is to prevent people from "latching onto the personalities involved rather than listening to the music."[11] With the exception of "Hush" and "Vicarious", all of Tool's music videos feature stop motion animation to some extent. The videos are created primarily by Adam Jones, often in collaboration with artists such as Chet Zar,[109] Alex Grey,[109] and Osseus Labyrint.[110]
The "Sober" music video in particular attracted much attention. Jones explained that it doesn't contain a storyline, but that his intentions were to summon personal emotions with its imagery.[10] Rolling Stone described this imagery by stating that, in the video, "evil little men dwell in a dark dungeon with meat coursing through pipes in the wall" and called it a "groundbreaking", "epic" clip.[111] Billboard voted it "Best Video By A New Artist".[10]
The video for "Vicarious" was released on DVD on December 18, 2007.[112] The video is also notable because it is the first Tool video to be produced entirely through the use of CGI.
Both times I saw them Maynard was hidden to a large degree. Honestly, the whole band was de-emphasized by various other stuff going on.
They are so good live. Makes the CDs sound like ****. Rage had the same feel.
Most other live acts I've seen didn't drop the, well the studio version sounds like garbage now vibe. Tool and Rage had that.
