Though, to be fair, from the point of view of an atheist... a lot of theists should be in asylums.

I mean, Christians worship a 2k year old zombie who is trying to get people to eat his body and drink his blood. If it wasn't "normal" that would certainly be a highly questionable activity.

Hindus have a god who regularly has himself pushed out of unsuspecting vaginas so that he can terrify his mother by showing her the universe in his mouth. And they have a lot of arms--way too many to actually be able to get sh*t done.

Buddhists just don't think there is anything (which is probably the most believable of them all).

Yeah, people who misinterpret their religion to the point of complete madness aren't really followers of it anymore.

Which is the reason I give Hinduism the benefit of the doubt, because the Hindus I've met so far were all quite obviously fundamentalist lunatics and I won't believe they're representative of anything.

I think in order of sense-making I'd place religions like this (roughly, I'm not gonna include all the different movements and obscure ones and stuff):
1. Buddhism
2. Sikhism
3. Sunni Islam
4. Judaism
5. Shia Islam
6. Protestant Christianity (Lutheran/methodist anyway)
7. Shintoism
8. Hinduism (although not the ones I've met)
9. Random crazy **** I don't get at all.

That's actually really really simplified because there are some practices in some areas for pretty much all of them that don't make any ******* sense but aren't really an inherent part of the religion.

About US politics: Having grown up in a sort-of communist environment (the borders were opened when I was 1Â½ years old, but my family used to be communist, so I got a hefty dose of that growing up) and having lived in the US, the socialist systems in large areas in mainland Europe are admirable, but you end up missing the benefits of capitalism and a free market pretty quickly, because there is a difference between what sounds good on paper and what actually gets people the stuff they want.

That means that while I think socialism is important to some degree, and while I think the whole political spectrum in the US is way too far to the right, the UK is a much better place to be for me than mainland Europe. That being said, some countries (like Denmark) manage better than central Europe, and I still get my German monies while enjoying the UK market, so I do get the best of both, sort of.

But yeah, the US as a whole is far too right-wing for me, I mean even here I'm waaaay to the left of the political centre where I'm actually moderately conservative in Germany.

Kali, is it true they're having a referendum in Scotland to see if the Scots want to be independent to england or not? While I know that we might not survive as a lone country, I hate being tied to "what's best for Britain" as opposed to "What's best for Scotland". Plus, it would be quite interesting.

Not sure how you get your Super Jail, but here in the Islands we have it on the cartoon channel. Anyway, the show that hosts Super Jail, among other cartoons, has been pushing the band that does the music for Super Jail. They are called Cheeseburger.

Not any religion someone else came up with, anyway. I don't really believe in higher powers. I do believe in the worth of rituals.

Also, it's kind of funny how Punjabi pronunciation is easier than Danish pronunciation. Says a lot about Danish, I think.

As for what religion leads to... I am going to attempt observing Ramadan this year. Properly, with all that it entails (like not smoking, no fluid intake during day time), apart from prayer. Because I can learn from it. More so than from anything else I've happened upon lately. I haven't really found a decent calendar for it for Ilmenau yet, though.

Seriously this is why I have barely been to church in 10 years. I have to admit I miss the community feel, but really I couldn't stand the all the paranoia and the politics (you should have seen the looks I got when I declined to sign some abortion ban petition Smiley: rolleyes

). But it's okay, there's plenty of places to find bible readings online and such. Religion has just become a little more of a personal endeavor I suppose.
