This is odd.

When I woke up this morning and had my morning smoke, I looked at my DVD rack and tried to find a movie I'd watch. For some reason, my mind went straight to the movie Watchmen, except it wasn't on the shelf.

Then I watched an episode of Fringe called Fracture and the villain in that episode was played by an actor who looked a lot like Lance Henriksen. I have this almost eidetic memory when it comes to movies and such, so I knew I'd seen him in something else before, but I couldn't place it. So, after the episode, I went and looked up his name, and it turns out he played Nite Owl (the original) in the Watchmen movie. Well, a moment ago when I had another smoke, I heard someone playing Bob Dylan's "The Times They Are A-Changin'" down below.

That song is played during the Watchmen intro credits.

I'm no fan of conspiracy theories, but seriously? Does someone want me to watch Watchmen or something?

That just makes me laugh. I think my favorite is:

Macbeth couldn’t have loved Lady Macbeth because he was crazy and too busy hallucinating witches and stuff. Also, crazy people can’t do it without going crazy midway through.

I only judge people with bad grammar if they're adults. Children can still be reached! Besides, if I have my way I'll be teaching primarily literature, not spelling and grammar.

Instead of accepting that Hispanics and white will be one, I want Hispanics to stop coming to America, and go back to where they came from. This sounds bad, but I just wants best for me and everyone I know.

But this one made me sad.

The same thing happened to the Indians when the British left. They wanted to continue to play cricket, but the difference is they changed it to make it their own because even though the British influence started it, they didn’t want the influence in their culture anymore. This proves that even though they hated the British, they were glad that they invaded because if they hadn’t, they wouldn’t be playing cricket.

Fortunately, I have no problems giving F's to students who earn them.

I'm also going to be giving my classes some remedial logic lessons, to help make up for the ridiculous lack of it in public schools.

You are now going to buy me a Nikon 50mm F1.8 lens and a reverser ring. You have to. seriously.

E actually made the lens himself for that.
Sure, but the quality is a lot lower from that. Lenses are ridiculously complicated and a 50mm F1.8 lens is only €110 so it's not like building your own lens has any realistic advantages.
Reverse mount a 50mm on bellows and you can do the crazy spider eyes **** that freaks Maz out.
The tricky part is getting enough sharp depth since with a reverse mounted 50mm on a bellows even at the smallest aperture you're still left with a sharp depth of less than half a milimeter.

Aperture is how far the lens opens, F1.8 means that it's maximum opening is 1/1.8th. A larger opening means more light entering the lens and less sharp depth. A smaller opening means more sharp depth and less light entering the lens up to roughly halfway between the smallest and largest opening of a lens because once you go even smaller the light is scattered a little when it hits the edges of the opening and it gets a little blurry.

50mm is the focal length which is more mathy stuff about light.

Bellows are fairly obvious, I think. mounting one between your camera and the lens allows you to get even closer to your subject while still being able to focus due to the fact that your lens is further away from your camera, although I can't remember exactly how this works.
Reverse mounting a lens onto another lens gives the same kind of scary macro but it causes a lot of vignetting which isn't quite as cool.

But in essence, with about €200-250 worth of equipment I can make photos that scare the everliving **** out of Maz, Diglett and Kao.

Also, I know that you're probably going to ignore what I wrote here but I had to type it anyway.

9 times out of 10 at the very least anyways. ;-) I did like the comment on that one saying that the teacher should take that particular student aside and try to ascertain why they thought Hispanics had a negative effect on our country, and try and re-educate them. That is what being a teacher is about after all.

I go by the logic that the student will get educated when they serve Hispanics while working at the local fast food joint.

People don't know any better. If you hear all around you how hispanics are bad and how they're to blame for everything eventually you're going to believe that.

Kali, that video was pretty cool but I don't like how they hid all the math. I'd like to have heard something about the math even if I probably wouldn't have understood it.
#5848 May 10 2011 at 6:03 AM Rating: Good
It's kind of pointless to not hide the maths because you can't do it without a computer, anyway. Those people probably don't fully understand it themselves.

They also have a number of other videos.

I know there's more. I'm watching the Schrödinger's cat video now.
And I still don't like how they faded out when they started talking about the math it's sort of like they're holding back info and even though I wouldn't be able to do anything with the info I still want it because I'm curious.

Also, if I ever own a cat it's name will be Schrödinger.
#5851 May 10 2011 at 6:55 AM Rating: Good
Everyone names their cat Schrödinger. The only excuse for that is if you name all your pets after Stargate characters, I think.

Also, I just got a letter addressed to "The Right Honourable <surname>". Guess who is responsible for that.
