Ugh, data analysis.

I have values for 10 different proteins across 12 datasets. The value for each dataset consists of 3-6 replicate analyses, meaning there's a mean + std dev at each point. Each protein in each dataset has values for picomoles, micrograms, counts and intensity.

So that's 4 different values for each data point (counts-picomoles, intensity-picomoles, counts-micrograms, intensity-micrograms), and 120 datapoints, each having a mean and standard deviation. I'm wanting to do pairwise comparisons between each of the data points.

So that's 4*(120 + 119 + 118... etc) comparisons. I think excel isn't going to like me much, or I need to change how I'm looking at this.

Smiley: frown

Anyway, that's a long way of saying I'm glad it's Friday and I get to go home soon...

On a sidenote, I ate a late lunch at Kafe België today and I got a Rochefort 8 to go along with it, that was one magnificent beer. And I also picked up a bottle of Rochefort 10 and I'll figure out a good meal to go along with it on Monday. But if it's as good or better than the 8 it'll be worth the price and I've got a brilliant beer to look forward to.
Edit: I'm thinking of trying to get a good piece of meat for monday, probably with mushrooms as well. Not sure whether I'll go with rice, potatoes or pasta though.

Xsarus, give me some good ideas! (here's a link to reviews of the beer)

A good pattern is one that isn't immediately noticeable--your first impressions are always of colors and lines. Those two things need to be properly structured in a pattern so that a pattern receives a pleasant gut reaction.

What the pattern actually is is secondary to that. It still needs to be visually stimulating after the fact, but a lot is held in the lines/color of it.

The problem with floral prints is that massive flowers don't have pleasant lines, and the colors are generally... unpleasant on clothing (especially if you mix different flowers). And they need to be paired with the proper background and can't be too bright. But they can be done well. For example, a white dress with sunflowers (complete with stalks). I'm not in love with the flower on the belt, and it would be hard for a white girl to pull this off, but it's not bad. It works because nothing's obnoxiously bright, and the white background helps keep the colors from getting too aggressive.

(I just googled floral print, lol).

I disagree, while it's not bad for a floral print it still doesn't look good.
Also, her belt is in a dumb place.

I have lots of floral clothes.

Well, one floral print silk skirt, and a dress that looks like it's floral until you see that it has little skulls on it.

Also, I just talked to a German guy on Skype in English, and his English is actually nearly flawless. \o/

That's a very common place for belts on dresses, because it makes the legs look longer. :P

For the most part, the only floral prints I have are on Hawaiian shirts. I still have a few of those from my high school days when we had Hawaiian day during spirit week. I do have a hippie shirt that has floral prints on it, but it isn't obnoxious. The shirt itself is white, and the print has really thin lines so it's pretty subtle.

Also, I know I'm a tom boy when my metro boyfriend knows more about fashion than I do. Of course I grew up an only child raised mostly by my dad, and he was raised in a family with six sisters, so that does make quite a bit of a difference. I just learned about the awesomeness that is proper eyeshadow blending in the make up class I took last term, so yeah... Despite my long hair and feminine features, I'm really not that feminine lol.

Last year he and I were shopping for an outfit for me for the fetish ball that was coming up, and we had found a skirt and shirt that matched pretty well. We were looking for some knee high tights to go with it. We were in Hot Topic and I asked one of the sales clerks to help me find something after I showed her the clothes I had so far. She pointed out some glossy tights, and J piped out that that wouldn't work because with the black and dark gray checkered theme I already had going on, I needed tights that were matte as well. Anything shiny would just look tacky. The clerk looked at him, then looked at me and grinned and I replied and said "I'm so lucky to have a man that knows more about fashion than I do!" and she agreed with me, lol.

I have a challenge for a truly bored druid! We need a bored druid timeline! With postcount/page milestones, the general topics discussed each month (with special notes about months we didn't discuss beer!), various peoples first posts in the thread etc.

The topics of conversation have been amazingly varied here from heavy science & alcohol to sexuality & culture - and even the odd time when the thread has threatened to go off-topic and talk about WoW stuff! And thats only in the last month or so!

It would be an interesting read but I couldn't be assed doing it myself :)

I wear Aloha shirts to work quite often. I actually have to go shopping and buy some more this weekend.

Most Aloha wear you see on the mainland is fucking hideous though. Like someone loaded bright hard flower patterns into a shotgun and blasted away on a bunch of cloth. The ones out here are more muted, simple and stylish.

edit: spelling

Yeah one of mine is pretty obnoxious. The other two aren't too bad though. I don't really remember exactly what they look like though, as they've been packed away for years. =x

My county borders the ocean, so the ones around here aren't that bad. But some of the ones you see on tourists are... interesting.

Best part is when they come back here feel the need to keep wearing them.

That'd be cool. I just don't think I have it in me to read over all 120ish pages of stuff and take notes. On the other hand I know of two people who are in finals week and should have some upcoming free time. Smiley: sly

Lol, that's not happening. My finals are done the 11th, then I have a summer class that starts the 31st. In the meantime, I'm actually going to spend time with friends (in particular, the best friend that goes to HPU who will be home for the summer). :P

My last exam is on the 24th of June, and after that I'll probably do some random research stuff; I might still have time in July, but I seriously doubt it.

It just leaves me wondering if she's too stupid to put the belt in the right place.

It also makes women look skinnier and curvier, as it doesn't define the waist for women who aren't. Your brain naturally assumes the hourglass shape and scales her body according to the line of the legs.

So you end up overestimating her leg length, assuming a smaller waist as a result, and over-estimating her curves because the belt is placed right at the bosom and the dress flows outward from there.

It's a similar reason to why high-waisted skirts are popular. They make women look like they have longer legs. Look at her for instance--her legs look way longer than they actually are.

Could be just me but the first thing I notice is that legs do not end where her skirt ends or if they do that she's horribly deformed. But since I can see her knees I've got a pretty good estimate of where her legs actually end.

Also what the hell is wrong with her mouth?
#5775 May 07 2011 at 1:24 PM Rating: Good
I wear skirts high like that.

It also means I can buy them 2-3 sizes smaller, which soothes my ego.

There also seem to be a lot of high-waisted short shorts, at least around here, at the moment. I own a pair, but I tend to wear a long T-shirt over them. It's certainly a million times better than seeing people's bumcracks.

Actually, belts like that are nice on most girls, pretty much all that aren't morbidly obese. IF YOU ARE TOO FAT, THAT ISN'T GONNA HIDE IT, EITHER!

Now wearing a long T-shirt and just leggings/tights is weird. I honestly think it looks more slutty than hot pants without tights. Eugh.
