I study English lit because English is the only language I know and I love reading. I actually do find the language and its history to be pretty interesting though. English takes and borrows from so many other languages, with vocabulary and grammar rules, and it's interesting learning about that. The great vowel shift that occurred during the Renaissance is pretty cool too.

It not only borrows words from other languages; it has on occasion chased other languages down dark alley-ways, clubbed them unconscious and rifled their pockets for new vocabulary."

We had 3 casks of ale the other week.

We rarely have lager here. Only when other people bring it.

There are decent light ales, but most seem to be dark, unless you want to get drunk cheaply or something.

Exactly, and that's part of what makes it fascinating.

On the English topic: I'm reading Bad Language by Trudgill at the moment - mostly for research for my Linguistics paper. It's actually a really interesting book.

The paper will be a "five reasons...." style article (we're not supposed to write an essay) on why language variation is awesome. :3

Well, it's not the size of the boat that matters. It's all about the motion of the ocean, baby!

Did I save?

Also, hah!

That gets linked every other time when I try to explain why I use the Danish keyboard layout despite programming more than writing Danish.
