That Sone are a bunch of cnuts.
Got any other streaming sites where the video could be uploaded? It's a pretty entertaining video and only Sony's video is on youtube.

How about this one then.

Not harmonic enough for me.

Growling, or w/e that's called, never impressed me all that much. The background music also sounds like generic heavy metal background music. The song doesn't have any flavor, in my opinion. I wouldn't know much about it, I've never been much of a heavy metal listener.

And if I'm angry I usually listen to rap.

It's not intended to be harmonic, it's supposed to hit you like a fist to the face. Only in a good way.
And Lamb of God usually works for me, it's pretty much that or At The Gates.

Nothing like brutal guitars to soothe the mind.

You need help and I can't give it to you.

I'd do some exorcism and jump out the window, but honestly, I don't think it'll be enough.

Maz, considering your supposed to be a frigging Viking, your music taste disappoints me, a lot. And Aeth is right, there really isn't anything else like amazing guitar work. The solo is soothing, but the rest makes you want to punch babies in the face.Or is that just me?

Rio, vikings, contrary to popular beliefs, didn't play much heavy metal back in the days, primarily due to the lack of electricity for their instruments. In fact, vikings didn't so much sing as they did recite poems. This was popular because it proved them to be not only masters of the sword, but also masters of the word, and poetry "battles" often took place during the feasts.

Yeah, vikings could be pretty gay when they weren't cleaving women and raping skulls.

Well, the soothing part is after the headbanging and violent blood shedding.

edit: The vikings have pretty kickass mythology though, and their poems are good.

I went off poetry when my highschool teacher made me read and analyse this:

Quote:
It was not meant for human eyes,
That combat on the shabby patch
Of clods and trampled turf that lies
Somewhere beneath the sodden skies
For eye of toad or adder to catch.

And having seen it I accuse
The crested animal in his pride,
Arrayed in all the royal hues
Which hide the claws he well can use
To tear the heart out of the side.

Body of leopard, eagle's head
And whetted beak, and lion's mane,
And frost-grey hedge of feathers spread
Behind -- he seemed of all things bred.
I shall not see his like again.

As for his enemy there came in
A soft round beast as brown as clay;
All rent and patched his wretched skin;
A battered bag he might have been,
Some old used thing to throw away.

Yet he awaited face to face
The furious beast and the swift attack.
Soon over and done. That was no place
Or time for chivalry or for grace.
The fury had him on his back.

And two small paws like hands flew out
To right and left as the trees stood by.
One would have said beyond a doubt
That was the very end of the bout,
But that the creature would not die.

For ere the death-stroke he was gone,
Writhed, whirled, into his den,
Safe somehow there. The fight was done,
And he had lost who had all but won.
But oh his deadly fury then.

A while the place lay blank, forlorn,
Drowsing as in relief from pain.
The cricket chirped, the grating thorn
Stirred, and a little sound was born.
The champions took their posts again.

And all began. The stealthy paw
Slashed out and in. Could nothing save
These rags and tatters from the claw?
Nothing. And yet I never saw
A beast so helpless and so brave.

And now, while the trees stand watching, still
The unequal battle rages there.
The killing beast that cannot kill
Swells and swells in his fury till
You'd almost think it was despair.

It almost killed me, and I just about killed her.

Of old was an age
when was emptiness,
there was sand nor sea
nor surging waves;
unwrought was earth,
unroofed was Heaven-
an abyss yawning,
and no blade of grass

What? indeed.

I was simply reciting part of Tolkien's adaptation of the older edda.
You know, the viking poems you were talking about.
It's fantastic reading material if you take the time to sit down and enjoy it.

Aren't you going to become a teacher? You're probably going to get sick of hearing that eventually. Unless kids don't sing that in Denmark. God, I hate kids. If I ever get put in a position that I have to look after them, I'm going to jump of the biggest cliff I can find.

It doesn't help that my sisters friend brought her 2 year old daughter with her. Only another 13 days.

I'm mostly going to be interacting with the kids during classes, and there'll be no singing in my classes!

Also, Aeth, Tolkien isn't viking. It's British interpretation of the Norse mythology, with a bit of WW2 in it. For some viking literature, look up "The Long Ships" (or Red Orm, Röde Orm). It's a '41 publication from a Swedish author, detailing the adventures of a Swedish viking (at that time, Sweden was split up into many kingdoms). It's pretty funny as it gives a nice impression of what life was like back then, plus it's fictional enough to keep you going.

It's been translated into Dutch as well, but I have no idea what they might have called it.

I commend you good sir, for the great service you provide to this world.Even wanting to is good enough for me.

Also Maz, you need to make sure that kids that you teach/interact with (that sounds really weird to me) don't grow up liking Twilight/Emo/Anything that's totally stupid beyond reason, and telling them that it's ok to beat these people within an inch of their life is peachy.

You want guitar work without baby punching? (which btw yes I have the same reaction to that one)

Check Dream Theater.

While this is true, I can't read the original, if I could I'd do that.
And I do think I can trust Tolkien to grab the feeling of the poems as best as he could more than some random translator, especially a Dutch one.

Be nice, Aeth. This is the bored, drunken, happy, friendly Druid thread.

Eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow you may die. Haha. That's what life is all about, man. Good times, a little salad.
