Priest StatsFollow

Once again..I'm a fairly new Priest, and had started lvl'ing her long ago. I've since rolled my Lock and have spent all my time on her. Now my guild is Priest poor so I want to build her in a fast and effective way.

My first question is, Which spec will allow me the least down time while solo'ing? Although I've been playing a caster, Locks tend to rely on thier pet a great deal, which I will be without.

Second question is about the building of a Priest....stats in general. I focused on Spell power as well as Int on my lock. Will these be the same for the Priest? Is Spirit a focus?

Also, my mana pool seems to be a bit shallow. I'm currently spec Shadow, and can take down 3 to 4 mobs before I'm running critically low. Any sugesstions?

I know these are probably noob questions, but I appreciate any input!'

Thx

Shadow. Take spirit tap and go up to Mind Flay. Holy and disc work very well for leveling since WOTLK but Shadow is without a doubt the most efficient and fastest way to do it.

For that, I'll point you to the sticky. Simply said you'll want to actually focus on int regardless of what you doing. Currently disc focuses mostly on crit and even more int while holy focuses mainly on int and spirit. Keep in mind that with the regeneration-from-spirit nerf coming up next patch focusing on spirit might be a lot less alluring - it's not very clear what's going to happen there yet. As for spellpower, iirc it's your primary focus as a shadow priest, but don't pin me down on it. As a healing priest, it depends - you should rarely need to focus on it (since it's on all your gear anyway), but mileages on it vary - I feel I could probably do a level 80 heroic with ~1100 spellpower while others are saying you need a minimum of 1700.

Spirit Tap. You shouldn't be having any problems if you max that out, not as long as your gear is somewhat decent. Also, you might be overkilling a lot; DOT up the mobs, use one or two damage spells and wand down the last 20%.

Things will get MUCH better once you get to pick up Vampiric Touch. Open up with it, follow with a Mind Blast, and for the next 15 seconds you'll be regenerating mana rather fast. Even more once the mob is dead and Spirit Tap comes on on top of that. Eventually you'll start AND end fights with full health and mana.

Don't forget that you're a Blood Elf, so use that Arcane Torrent whenever you can. Free mana every couple of minutes. Same once you get your pet or have the points to pick up Inner Focus. Keep those on CD and you won't be wanding that much of at all.

I'm doing a lot of things whenever I'm switching to shadow for rapid questing or because of having more healers than dps, but wanding, drinking, or even dropping out of shadow form to heal myself are certainly not part of that. About the only time I drink is when I got ganked yet again - which is part of another thread :P

Get a good wand early and use that for the last half of every mob. That way you conserve your mana. Lesser and greater magic wands at low levels, mystic wands starting at level 26. They are leveling items for enchanters so they are really cheap.

Crushridge Warmongers has the Burning Sliver wand which is good around 40. I know there is the dire wand with shadow damage at 21 that is really good, get it from the AH.

Vampiric Embrace eliminates problems with health so you only need to shield in limited situations.

Professions help too. Do skinning for crit and herbs for a nice little health buff.

Do always do quests instead of grinding.

I recently started a priest and am slowly trucking my way through vanilla. And all I can do is sing the praises of discipline.

I tried shadow whenever vamp touch became available and instantly had a distaste for it. The entire time lvling as disc I never came close to dying and was able to literally grind nonstop no breaks for as long as I pleased. Very rarely would a mob still be alive before my shield dropped. I must mention 3 points in spirit tap along with everything else in disc. Timewise yes things die faster as shadow but I just enjoy the godlike, mana happy, shield happy freight train abilities of disc. But preferences are personal and my priest already has a 50g respec b/c ive played around so much.

Granted I stopped questing and ran all the instances I could (atm only 56) to pick up blues and get a feel for healing, since my only other healing toon is a pally which I abandoned at 66. So at 56 with all blues sans 1 trinket and pumping intellect the whole way to take advantage of the talent, I adore disc and will never go any other way.

But I am trying to fall in love with my priest which has already happened, and am not in a big hurry to hit the brick wall of end game.

Stat wise for disc, imo lvling, intellect all the way, since spellpower is hard to come by early on. At 56 I only have 177. Early on with a low mana pool I pumped spirit but have since functioned it out of desirability. a good wand is your best friend and there are a handful of boe blue wands that will carry you for a long time.

Disc I love it, if you haven't tried it give it a hoot, it just feels more priestly than shadow, and could really only be slightly behind shadow in xp/hour
