Alright, I have been RAF'ing with a friend lately and I decided to make a warlock. She's level 42 now and I just can't get enough.

The thing is, when I look around for warlock info there is just so much I don't know which info should be taken seriously and which shouldn't be.
So there are like a dozen play styles and more than enough builds to play around with. I came up with this one and I want to know if I missed something.

Also, I think I'll be playing with my felhunter alot because it seems like the best pet to steal mana from.

Any suggestions?

All of my 'lock experience is as Affliction (currently lvl 71). The hybrid build you linked just seems wrong to me...the whole Destro tree is about buffing your fire spells while the Affliction tree buffs shadow damage and gives you more DOTs. Your build misses out on the 2 best 'lock DOTs (UA and Haunt). Though Haunt is a DD spell, it gives a 12 sec buff to every DOT to the tune of 20%.

There was a druid poster (Mazra) who said "Mangle is an everlasting ******"...Haunt is a warlock's everlasting ******.

As far as pets go, the felpuppy is good to dark pact off of, but honestly I didn't even take that talent in my current build...I just time my life taps around when Haunt will return health to me. Personally, I usually have my imp out (decent damage and I like the health buff).

Well, your build is unique. You said you were level 42 right now, right? Your build should be a leveling build then; any one tree works, but trying to take multiple parts of multiple trees does not.

How it breaks down, in the most general sense:
1. Affliction. Runs on dots. Ability to pull large packs and have them all die to dots. Also have some added survivability thanks to siphon life and haunt restoring some extra hp. Downside is that dots take a while to kill, and you'll probably drain-tank enemies, causing higher repair bills. Also not all that useful if you are duoing because things will die quick with two of you.
2. Demonology: Good part is strong pets, and once you get Felguard you have a great all-purpose pet that can tank AND DPS for you. Bad part is lower overall DPS, which isn't a huge concern while leveling but is in raids.
3. Destro: You're a mage without the slows. High mana use, high burst. Might work out very well with two of you, because any target will drop dead before reaching you.

Again, that's generalizing. At max level the game will change, but right now affliction is the best DPS spec (although it suffers from a few bugs, making more than a single affliction 'lock in a raid a slight nerf).

Solo, I leveled my warlock to 46 drain-tanking as an affliction build. I liked it. I think, if I still played him, I would go Demonology once I could take Felguard. Destro simply never appealed to me.

What posts are you looking at? Elitist Jerks has some very good ones, if you're looking for raiding. For leveling, any advice is good because all of it is anecdotal; people like to level different ways and no single way is necessarily "better" than another.

Thanks for your information so far.

Destruction seems really cool to me, but my main concern is the lack of mana and health regen from a destro spec. I always try to minimize downtime while levelling. So I tried to regain some of the regen by creating a hybrid build which , ideally, has the best regen and burst tools possible. But that's not the way it works apparently, too bad though :). Gold isn't an issue so I'll try a couple of respecs to see how destro wil work out when I play with my friend.

Thanks!

Virtually 100% of the time while i was leveling i was specced demonology. I was affliction for maybe a level or two and only destruction for PVP. Affliction was cool but i have to say i liked demonology much much more. When i did spec affliction i ran into some downtime but as demonology, mostly after i got my felguard, i had zero downtime. Most of the time i could go from one mob to the next, even when my felguard had 2 or 3 mobs pulled.

So yeah i strongly suggest to spec demonology for leveling, i loved it.
