Idol swapping...worth it?Follow

#1 Mar 20 2009 at 9:31 PM Rating: Decent
I was playing around with Idol swapping. One for Wrath and one for Starfire. My thinking was, when Eclips procs, I'll be doing more damage per cast...

Slight problem. I swap my idol using a generic macro:
/equip idol of .... (wrath)
/cast Wrath

Spell does not cast. I spam the Wrath button and after 4 or so precious seconds of my Eclipse proc ticking away, it finally starts spam casting Wrath, and vise-versa with Starfire.

So I try the other way
/cast Wrath
/equip idol of.... (wrath)

Same thing... seconds of my eclipse ticking down before it finally allows me to cast a spell. I know swapping idols resets the global CD of my spells, that would be fine. I could wait a sec before spam casting... but even after the CD is up... my spells don't spam cast. I get alot of "that spell is not ready" etc.

I have both the 200+ idols for wrath and sf... I'm thinking it's not worth swapping the idol out. Has anyone else come to this conclusion too? Since 80% of the time I'm spamming Wrath, I'm thinking it's just best if I stick with my Wrath Idol, and let my crits on SF be good enough without the extra 150? spell.

Any suggestions are more than welcome =)

sometime during BC they made changing idols reset the global cooldown, same with weapons. So changing an idol loses you two seconds, and with my stats, that's two wrath casts I'd miss out on.

It's not really worth it, sadly.

Yeah the sad fact is the reset of the gcd, therefor making it not worthwhile to switch idols and to pick one. Of course, you could switch them out for trash/boss fights like the bears do.

I really think they need to make an idol for hurricane. 3.1 has a IS idol slated for us and another starfire idol but nothing else :(

Ah thx for the info. I'll just keep my Wrath one on. I like the SF idol... but seeing I'm nonstop spamming Wrath I'm thinking it'll be for the best. Maybe I'll try different idols on a few bosses and see what is better WWS numbers =)

Sorry for asking this, but....is there a reason for you to just spam wrath? What's your rotation?

From his original post, I get the idea that he spams Wraith until Eclipse, then spams Starfire, hence the question about switching idols to correlate with the respective spell he'll be spamming.

The nature of the beast is that you'll end up spamming more Wraith than Starfire. It's a question of if the added damage to Wraith will overtake the added damage to Starfire, even though you do cast a lot more Wraith.

I'll see if I can find anything on this that's definitive. Obviously it will still end up being your personal choice based off your own playstyle.

BTW, the extra time when swapping idols might be due to you spamming the key that switches the idols and the game trying to equip an idol it already has equipped over and over. Technically the idol isn't equipped until the global cooldown is over.

Might try making a macro for each switch and placing it next to the corresponding spell. So one push to switch, then another to spam the spell.
