Mouse BindingFollow

Two reasons I bring this to you all: 1, I know someone here was working on a project of sorts for a while trying to make as many of their abilities mouse-accessible as possible, and I can't find it; 2, I know Rogues in general, or at least this community of them, is very custom-macro-centric. So I ask you: I'm looking to get a new mouse, and would like to get one with some additional buttons so I can have some commands bound to it instead of having to reach across the top row for some of my less-used abilities (I've already exhausted the entire set of keys immediately surrounding WASD, including modifiers). If any of you have recommendations, I'd love to hear them.

I'm kind of intrigued by http://www.steelseries.com/us/products/partners but the price seems high, no doubt in part because it's officially licensed. I'm willing to pay it though if anyone here has used it (or even other products by steelseries) and can testify to the quality. I've seen the odd case or two of people reporting the mouse going dead after a bad static shock, but I could see that happening to any mouse, so I don't think that's something to be concerned with (plus my computer space is very well grounded).

I use the Logitech G3 gaming mouse myself, works great.

1) I'm left handed but the mouse has no preference, so no fooked up right hand bulb annoying my palm every second I spend behind the PC.
2) Not a HUGE ******* of extra buttons, but just a couple of extra ones on places I want them.
3) Quite lightweight and smooth with that.

Googling "G3 Mouse" brings up Amazon where the mouse is 60 dollars.

This would probably have been better posted in general, but...

I use the Logitech MX Revolution and while it was a bit expensive, I cannot lavish enough love on the damn thing. Having macros key-bound to the additional buttons just makes the game simpler. Any of the better quality mice with more buttons and whatnot that you feel comfortable with will be likely be an upgrade. And that's the key point IMO: You have to feel comfortable with the mouse.

Oh, mouse button 4 = pick pocket/sap...... I love you =)

I was tempted by that wow steelseries mouse too, until i read all the horrible reviews. There was a post somewhere and i think it was theo who actually picked it up, found it to be hella bad, and returned it. Personally, i'd probably stay away from it.

There a a few solid ones though. Personally I use a really cheap wireless one, and it's been solid for like four years now. make sure to take advantage of your scroll wheel too, scroll up/down and combinations of shift up/down etc can be used as well, making it usefull for about 8 bindings, not including the actual scroll button, which would be another 4. two side buttons would bring the total to 20 bindings. You might even be able to use the tilt function to bind as well, but i've never tried.

the more popular ones are teh logi mx518, mx revo, g3+, etc. Personally i'd like to see the roccat kone come to the US, but that might not ever happen. there's also the razer ones, some people love em, some hate em.

Yeah, I bought the WoW mouse.

It's terribad.

Like, I want them to pay me for the trauma that that mouse caused.

I ended up with a G5 and couldn't be happier. It's everything I could possibly want in a mouse. It's absolutely perfect.

The thread you were looking for was in the Compendium, BTW.

Using the Logitech MX revolution. Ball-bearing scroll wheel, two thumb side-buttons and a side-scroll toggle all with modifiers bound to most of the keys as well hold a lot of my often used/critical abilites.

Prime examples being my lightning generator (xD), vent, autorun, slice and dice, rocket boots and Feint. A combination of key abilities (vent on mouse is so wicked, I can't recommend it enough if you pvp) and **** that I just had no where else to put without messing up the keybinds I've been using for >2 years already. There's also a few things that were on my 1-6 bars as combat that I only use once per fight in pve, but still kinda needs to be keybound (SnD).

Also, the thing is comfortable as hell. It's like a pillow for your hand.

Yeah see, I couldn't deal with a mousewheel that didn't click.

It clicks, it kinda has two rails that it rolls on. If you spin it fast, it free-spins, great for scrolling through long sh*t. If you use it like a normal mouse wheel it clicks, abeit a little quieter than most.

It also clicks down like a 3rd button but I found for wow it was somewhat unreliable.

Whats wrong with the Steelseries mouse besides its size?

It's got a pretty high DPI laser, is it just the sheer bulk of it?

I actually bought the steelseries, had a coupon that knocked it down lower than what I'd have paid for any decent Logitech mouse...

It's certainly not the most ergonomic of mice, but it works. The buttons resist enough so you aren't pressing them unwillingly (unless your involuntary hand motions are extremely heavy). The profile builder is kinda cool, it autodetects when you login to a given character and changes your button mappings accordingly. The mouse is lightweight and doesn't drag, and the cord is protected by a mesh to prevent wear and tear.

The macro builder is...meh, since it only records keyboard inputs and that makes for slower response to commands than just macroing keybinds and mapping those keybinds to commands in-game.

It's not a Logitech.

But seriously I recommend the Logitech G5 or MX518. I have 2 MX518's and I love them. I don't know what I'll do when they wear out and aren't available anymore. But then again I've had them forever and they're still going strong. No problems at all and great customization.

The profile builder is a piece of trash software.

If they wanted to make a superior mouse, they should have allowed keybinds instead of macros.

The mouse in my experience isn't just "not the most ergonomic," it's more along the lines of, "so uncomfortable that my hand cramped".

To each his own, though. I just found it to be a piece of **** mouse and not worth $100 when I could get a G5 for $50.
