The role of a mage in 25man Sarth 3dFollow

#1 Mar 20 2009 at 1:53 AM Rating: Decent
Hi, I just managed to get into a raiding guild that currently killed Sarth 3d a few times on 25 man and 10 man by a select 10 top people in the guild. When I first did it, We wiped after Tenebron died due to people dying to voidzones and lava walls, I died a few times at first but after a few deaths i manage to avoid the hazards. I know that Tenebron has to die asap due to the danger of whelps overwhelming the tanks and recount shows that i did about 200k damage on Tenebron while the top mage did 300k and the rest of the DPS hanging in between 180k and 280k. IS 200k too little on Tenebron? also after he dies I aoe the whelps down and focus on shadron or vesperon and his acolyte but I am not sure which one. My rotation on Tenebron is arcane blast spam with cooldowns till i go oom then mana gem and pot and evocate if needed. Also, do you think that respeccing FFB or ToTW/FB a good idea?

We eventually ended up doing it with 2 drakes due to too much wipes but what I am doing, is it right or not? 200k damage on Tenebron enough? Here's my armoury:

The main question is when you are bloodlusting?

Remember to try to stack your cooldowns with that. If you are not getting tenebron down before shadron lands (and therefore before the 2nd round of whelps spawn) you probably want to be bloodlusting during tenebron. That is when I pop all of my cooldowns (AP+IV+Mana Gem) - save your cooldowns for when you are down around 4000-5000 mana so that you can get the most out of your gem and the spellpower that it gives. If you don't have those all in a macro, make one and profit.

I tend to evocate after we get tenebron down while the higher-aoe take down the whelps.

When you start the fight, are you all running to the other side of the island thing? That is where we tank them, on the "IN" calls of lava you can stand on the edge of the island to the left and not have to keep moving. I pretty much stay there the entire time that we have drakes as the movement between the IN and OUT waves is fairly minimal compared to running into the middle. Less movement = more dps time.

The way we do drake/acolytes: we bloodlust on tenebron, get him down then aoe down adds/whelps. After that we move onto shadron and hopefully have him to around 50% (or better) before vesperon lands. We all CAREFULLY watch our health and of course are careful about lavastrikes (meteors) and void zones as between the two of those and one spell from you can kill you if you are not careful. Never get below 6000hp on your own accord, remember to bandage or iceblock if you will be taking too much damage. -- Also important to note that blizzard/flamestrike AoE (and I would assume AE as well) do not proc Twilight Torment so you will not be taking damage from them while you are AoEing.

After Shadron is down we head straight to the portal, go down, and kill both acolytes. Once back up we continue to AoE elementals when called for and burn down shadron. Every time a portal opens we head down and kill the acolyte (being careful of flame walls as it is still bugged from what I hear that you can get hit by it). Blow your AP+Managem together when you can and finish him off. After that it is don't ***** up time and burn down Sartharion.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the reply Anobix, since this was my first time on 3d, I dont know my guild's strategy but we bloodlusted after the firewall when Tenebron landed. and during that time i did blow IV, AP but saved my gem once my mana hits 60% as well as mana pot. The problem is that after tenebron dies, we have at least 6 or more people dead and either the adds overwhelm the tank as Tenebron hatched the eggs 3 times or we took the portal to avoid a total wipe in case we had too little dps and heals to kill shadron when vesperon flys in, so I have no experience ingame how the transition to taking the portals in and the killing of Shadron and the arrival of Vesperon.

Thanks again, i'll watch videos on how to suceed =)

I highly recommend the video from stratfu.com (narrated by a fellow mage, Kyth <Fusion>). They also have a good guide on there as well.

If you are honestly taking that long to get Tenebron down there are a lot more problems. You should be getting Tenebron down before bloodlust ends and definitely before the second wave of whelps or else you will be overrun.

We have 3 tanks + 5 healers and the rest dps for our kill groups. We keep one additional DK (or plate wearer) ready for when we go down into the portals to kill the acolytes after shadron is dead.

You cannot have people dying to easy things like tsunamis and void zones, you just can't. They are easy to see and it is easy to move. Make sure someone calls out when they see a void zonen spawn and in the general area (under melee, in the middle, etc) and have one or two dedicated people calling flame wall in or out as soon as they spawn on the sides.

Until you can avoid the vast majority of deaths from stupidity it will be a roadblock. Also, there is no reason to be DPSing Sartharion before Tenebron lands, it only shortens the end of the fight, so it is not worth wasting mana on (I wand).

edit: arcane is great for the fight by the way, and you should be pumping out a bit more damage on the drakes. I'm normally #1/#2 on tenebron because of the CDs that I pop and then top 5 on the rest depending on positioning of everything. Try using your mana gem with the other cooldowns as it is a big dps increase, the mana is just the added benefit. I would only mana pot when you absolutely have to and try to time evocation to be on the last tick of bloodlust to get the hasted effect.

Bloodlust is the Horde name for the buff, Heroism is the Alliance version.

The person with the 35(almost 36) exalted factions and the 10% reputation bonus is happy with their choice of factions.

That looks to be the crux of your problem, just spamming arcane blast is not the best rotation. Did you ask the other mage what his rotation is? You should be 3-stacking arcane blast, missiles on barrage procs, or just arcane barrage if it doesnt proc. Many mages think that because fully stacked arcane blasts hit harder than barrage or missiles, its better. But the important factor is you will ooom at least twice as fast, which is a net dps loss from having to evocate sooner, having to pop mana pots instead of haste pots, and having to rely on mage armor rather than using molten armor. If you can't perform an effecient rotation as arcane, frostfire 0/53/18 or fireball 18/53/0 are both good specs to try out.

Grats!

We are still plugging away at 10man 3d, last thing I need for my 310 mount :-(

Yeah, we still couldn't down Sarth10 3D, closest we ever got was Shadron to 10%
I wish you luck on your sarth10 3d kill, better hurry 3.1 looms ahead =/
