its kinda too high.... though it would be harder to do Spore Loser without the high amount of crit one can get with debuffs and buffs up. Think by reducing the effectiveness of the buffs it would be easier to make scaling gear whereas if they left imp scorch the way it is then gear for casters would start to feature about the same amount of crit as they factor in scorch debuff for raids.

Back when I was FFB specced, shooting my FFB at a scorched boss netted around 46% Crit Ratings in 10 Mans. Boomkin/Shaman and a Ret Paladin and that goes up to 52%. Combustion almost seems pointless at this point. Now, its one thing to be able to reach a high enough Crit Rating so that RNG doesn't have complete control over your DPS, but over 50% of your main Nukes landing as Crits almost defeats the concept of Critical Hits - unless you're under some zany circumstances.

I have switched to Arcane for a more controllable DPS output, and the rate at which I crit has come down drastically - but there are still FFB and Fire Mages out there with absolutely insane chances to Critical Hit.

Add in the fact that the new Ulduar stuff will theoretically boost Critical ratings ever further, and you can see a need to balance the stat.

That being said - I wholly do not agree with how they are going about it. Scorching may no longer be worth the time to cast - and considering the dependency on Crit for the FFB spec as a whole - they may very well be killing one of the only Viable Raiding Specs (one of the major benefits of FFB before was the Scorch.)

They either need to make Scorches effect stack much more quickly without the need for a Glyph, need to make the effect be applied with any Fire Spell, or need to add additional benefits to the effect or replace the effect entirely with something different. No one asked Scorched to be changed to a Crit Buff - Blizzard did that. How they now figure it was a bad idea and instead of coming up with an innovative way to change it or, hell, even back-tracking to it's old effect - they are very lazily nerfing its effect.

Expect to see a lot less FFB Mages out there - I'll tell you now.

Meh, if warlocks spec correctly we won't have to worry about crit debuffs anymore, and definitely not glyphing for them (hello living bomb glyph!)

with the changes to molten armor, the Student of the mind talent just got a whole lot more appealing

The shadowbolt debuff will be the same as the scorch debuff and probably will not stack thus making things more or less equal.

compound the change to scorch with the molten armor change, I think I might go with dumping the molten armor glyph. Too bad the living bomb glyph will not make the crits count towards Hot Streak (kinda waaaay too much to ask for anyway). The dps boost will be very helpful though.

I am thinking of updating my spec again (since we are getting a free respec with 3.1)

to this

the difference is that in a single shadowbolt they get the 5% debuff instead of us casting 5 times.

no matter what the molten armor glyph is a dps increase and worth taking. Come 3.1 for a fire/frostfire will be main nuke (fire/frostfire) + Living Bomb + Molten Armor.

even though I no longer play on a RP server I wouldn't be caught dead wearing that around IF.

infact i would lie and say I still wore T7

This is terrifyingly similar to the Warrior Fissure armor from Guild Wars...

Absolutely horrible TERRIFYING.

Blizzard copying hideous ideas from other games? O.o (no, probably not, but the similarity is striking...and burns)

I am still pretty much set on wearing 2 pc T8.5 for the first set bonus. I like the helm, gloves and shoulders. I don't like the rest. We'll see, being a collector, I will likely get them all for completion's sake.

I am going with FFB + Molten Armor + Living Bomb glyphs and only 1 point into Imp Scorch unless someone can think of a better place to put it. As it is, I needed 1 point in something to get to the rest of the tree.

Maybe this is old news, but browsing mmo-champion, I saw 2 things that gives me a little hope:

1. Blue post:

Winter's Chill and Improved Scorch changes
I think we are likely to make the following changes:

* Improved Scorch: In addition to the stacking crit debuff, will improve your critical strike chance with Fireball, Scorch or Frostfire Bolt by 1/2/3%.
* Winter's Chill: In addition to the stacking crit debuff, will improve your critical strike chance with Frostbolt (possibly all Frost) by 1/2/3%.

Standard "no promises" caveat applies. (Source)

2: Scorch glyph change:
Quote:
* Glyph of Improved Scorch -- The Improved Scorch talent now generates 5 (up from 3) applications of the Improved Scorch effect each time Scorch is cast.

If these changes go through, will that make my precious FFB still worth staying with?
#40 Mar 26 2009 at 4:15 AM Rating: Good
It potentially will, as it will give you some of that crit back that you will be missing either from molten armor or 10%->5% thing. I don't think it will be worth glyphing for though as living bomb (from what I have read a week ago) is an actual dps increase.

Bad news for Fire mages...

According to this post, ignite can now have partial resists. Other classes with similar abilities have the same thing going on (Crusader Strike's dot, for example), so it seems to be an intended mechanic.

I didn't see anyone post about this, but they've buffed both the redesigned MA and the redesigned MA Glyph.

Quote:
Molten Armor now increases your critical strike rating by 35% of your spirit. (Up from 25%)

Quote:
Glyph of Molten Armor - Your Molten Armor grants an additional 20% (Up from 15%) of your spirit as critical strike rating.

With the changes, unbuffed I'm losing about .8% critical strike chance in my gear. With buffs, it'll be even less. And it has some great potential to yield even higher scaled numbers in the future. I think this is now a good change.

Additional nifty-ness:

Quote:
* Improved Scorch: Increased critical strike chance is now 1%, down from 2% per application of the Improved Scorch effect. In addition, the critical strike chance of Scorch, Fireball, and Frostfire Bolt is increased by 1/2/3%.

* Winter’s Chill: Increased critical strike chance is now 1%, down from 2% per application of Winter’s Chill. In addition, the critical strike chance of Frostbolt is increased by 1/2/3%.

This certainly makes one feel a little better about the Imp Scorch change.

agreed, that and that they buffed the amount of crit received by spirit by an additional 10% makes it a bit easier to swallow (I believe you need like 412 spirit now to get the 5% instead of the 532 that it was before [glyphed of course]).
