I plan on tanking all the way to 80, but ive noticed that tank gear isnt exactly in abundance during outlands, so when do you guys get the gear that makes you tank through northrend. Or does it only work because def rating doesnt matter when your doing normals?

Yeah, you shouldn't worry. Just wear plate, and switch into Frost Presence.

When you get into NR, you will start getting more defensive quest rewards occasionally. These will make tanking easier (well, on your healers at least).

You should be fine tanking normals all the way up to 80.

My experience leveling through Outland was pretty short on dungeons. Lots and lots of DK running around, a few miscellaneous other classes here and there, and no healers. Ever. I didn't even bother trying to find dungeon groups...I just pushed through.

If, however, you are hell bent on tanking, "of the Champion" greens are mediocre but not bad for tanking (though you'll pay out the *** for them on auction and they won't last long...you have the entire cobalt tanking set to look forward to at 70). If you haven't done the Overlord quest yet (Alliance side...forget what the name might be Horde side) you can nab the Regal Protectorate which will actually last you through a fair bit of Northrend as far as tanking trinkets go. Generally speaking, however, Outland was very skimpy on tanking plate quest rewards and even tank plate dungeon drops were few and far between. With the nerfs to XP requirements from 60-70, investing a lot of time putting together a tanking set for Outland dungeons is not really going to serve you very well.
