Question about MutilateFollow

#1 Mar 17 2009 at 5:12 PM Rating: Decent
So with the changes to poison we want to have fast/slow now right? unless we have 2 webbed death. I currantly have 1. So do we still use instant/deadly for poisons? or does that change?

Mutilate spec, for PvE.

I'm asking cause I have been going with slow/fast for last month or so and today have another rogue say to switch my weapons. Just asking.

Thanks
Mike

The difference between slow/fast and fast/slow is going to make such a pretty minuscule difference in your DPS when you're using comparable daggers (even something like a 1.30 dagger vs. a 1.80 from what I've ever seen). As for poisons, even with the new proc changes I'm certain it's still going to remain IP/DP, but people are going to rethink having IP on a really fast dagger.

Instead of starting a new thread. I thought I would post in this one.

I just got my second webbed death last night in naxx ... so I plan on running mutilate for a long while. Last night was my first night running as a mut rogue and first time I beat 4k dps on Patchwerk; however, the rest of the fights (except the gimmicky ones like Loatheb and Thaddius) I was pushing around 3k-3.5k.

Any one got some quick pointers on what not to mess up on from the switch to mutilate from combat. I find myself hitting SnD too much when I should be hitting evenom/eviscerate.

Thanks for any pointers.

You should NEVER EVER let Hunger for Blood, Slice and Dice, and Rupture drop. You shouldn't have to hit the SnD button but once. After that you should just be using envenom to keep up SnD.

If you look through this site you can find a great mutilate cycle video created by Akrios.

Good Luck

Rupture can drop, honestly even glyphed I'm not 100% enthused about it. If I have procs like zerker or trinkets up and a 5 stack of deadly I'll envenom, and when I get ruthlessness + mut crit -> 4 combo points I'll rupture because deadly generally isn't stacked up yet.

Then again, I'm pushing 45% crit raid buffed.. and I love envenom crits. Gotta get a spreadsheet to see which is min/max better ._.

Right now, fast/fast with IP/Deadly as mutilate. Come 3.1 just use whatever has the highest dps.

Another dumb question on Mut.

I find myself in the position of having 4 CPs a lot. What do most Mut's do? Do you use a finishing move with 4 CP's or hit a mutilate and waste a CP but have a 5 CP finisher? Do you use a quick shiv to get that last CP?

Just curious on how you approach combon points.

Thanks.

Mutilate is a 4+ rupture/4+ envenom rotation. Don't waste your time with shiv.

Rupture can drop, and will drop, don't worry.

Priority is HFB > SnD > Rupture

HFB shouldn't ever drop, it's pretty easy to keep it up honestly, you're waiting to long to refresh it if it drops. SnD only needs to be hit once, try not to let it drop, don't cut yourself too close. Pool your energy a bit before Envenoming if you can, it doesn't hurt to let SnD come down to 3seconds, just don't let your energy refresh to full. Rupture somes last, 4/5 cp's only.

Don't mutilate when you already have 4points. You want to Envendom/Rupter when at 4.

Don't use sinister strike, or any other abilities really lol.

While we are on the topic....

I'm thinking of speccing Muti when 3.1 hits.

Should I be opening with Garote >>>> Hfb >>>>>> then 1 point S&D to get things going, or is there a better way to open?

For 3.1 if the current PTR notes were to be the final I would let a team mate get bleed up, however still other with rupture.
I raid with feral druid OT, 2 fury warriors and 3 hunters and another rogue so my target is pretty much always bleeding.

Wait until target has bleed from ally Hfb>Garrote>SnD continue as normal

Regardless of how many other bleed-causing classes there are in the raid, you should be starting on the target as soon as you can. DPS time > coming out of stealth with 15/18% more damage which is only a global cooldown away anyways. Garrote-HFB-SnD-Mut-envenom-Proceed as normal is probably the best way to start.

That being said, if other people simply get to a target before you and there are bleeds up, go ahead and hit hfb in stealth. But you shouldn't be intentionally waiting in stealth for someone else open, it's not pvp and there's no benefit to it vs. an AI.

AoE packs I'd probably wait for a bleed to go up, having a feral as a focus or a fury warrior to see who they're loading all of their damage into. Since most of my aoe damage is done during tricks of the trade-overkill-fan of knives spam, we're talking 15k+ dps that uses that 18% increase, rather than two melee swings and a garrote that would be missing it in the single target senario.
