AGI VS APFollow

#1 Mar 17 2009 at 9:17 AM Rating: Decent
I haven noticed that a lot of rogues have AP instead of AGI. Will you do more DPS if you have AP? With my current gear (all AGI, And im a JC) I usually hit on average 3500 DPS on a naxx boss fight. If i were to switch to AP would i notice a difference?

Here is the weight for stats for combat/mutilate

Mutilate Weights
Attack Power = 1
Strength = 1.1
Agility = 2.0
Crit = 1.6
Expertise = 2.0
Haste = 1.6
Armor Penetration = 1.1
Main Hand DPS = 4.1
Offhand DPS = 3.1

Hit is worth about 2.9 below the yellow hit cap, 2.2 below the poison hit cap, and 1.4 above both caps.
For weapon speeds, each .1 increase in MH speed is around 35 EP and each .1 increase of OH speed
is around 75 EP.

Combat Weights
Attack Power = 1
Strength = 1.1
Agility = 2.0
Crit = 1.5
Expertise = 1.6
Haste = 1.4
Armore Penetration = 1.2

Hit is about 1.8 below the yellow hit cap, 1.6 below the poison hit cap, and 1.4 thereafter

Hit Caps
The following values assume that you have 5/5 Precision and that you are attacking a
level 83 mob (i.e., boss level).

Yellow Hit Cap = 99
Poison Hit Cap = 315
Hard Hit Cap = 722

Gemming for Ap over Agi is really hurting your overall performance. If you see a lot of rogues doing it, then they are lazy and don't want to spend the money on the right gems. If that isn't the case they are just too lazy to do research on proper gemming for rogues.

Thank you for the fast and great responce!

Yes i do have 5/5 Precision but i guess im under the Posion hit cap since my Hit is 267. I have extra gear that would boost my Crit and AP but lower my Hit... Maybe i will try to go with less hit as see how my DPS is effected. Im glad to know tho i have been gemming my Rogue correctly tho. :)

Spreadsheet says AP > Agi. Not by much and I prefer a higher crit% so I stuck with agi, but with the way poisons currently scale with ap, gemming for ap should be slightly more dps.

mahlerite, Are you talking for Mut or Combat? Or does it not make a difference?

For either spec. Bigger increase for combat, but on the scale of 1-2 dps increase per swapped gem. Unless of course i completely fail at the spreadsheet, lol.

Please stop posting EP weights to people asking questions like this.

EP weights assume you have FULL 25man optimal raid buffs for a rogue to do as much dps as possible (every class buff possible).

If you don't have the "perfect" setup that the EP weights REQUIRE, then they aren't a solid piece of information to follow.

Being lazy has nothing to do with geming ap/agi lol, this is flawed advice and apparently the lazy rogue that isn't researching is the one spitting out this information to you.

The difference between AGI and AP gems is typically less than 1dps, and sometimes only 1-2dps, usually it's fractions of a dps. Sure 12 of one gem might equal a total of 6-12DPS! but still, it's a dismal amount per. Grab vulajins spreadsheet from elitist jerks and put your gear into it, take all buffs off or put certain buffs that you typically run with, and play with how to gem. You might find that expertise, or a hit gem might be a higher dps increase for you.

If you are hit/expertise capped, then it doesn't matter too much which gem you go for (ap/agi) but spreadsheet will tell you whats best. Just be careful, each gear upgrade you get could change which gem is better for you at that time, and if you need to be perfect, then it will require a full regemming every time you get a piece of gear. Obviously there is no need to be perfect, it's mostly about preference. Some rogues like to see the big AP number.

Isn't funny that the rogue that makes the rogue spreadsheet is using full AP gems? Oh wow, even the rogue that created EP weights is using full AP gems..... Guess they are lazy and didn't do their research like you did Feyras...
