Survival or Marksman in New patch?Follow

#1 Mar 17 2009 at 5:35 AM Rating: Decent
Apologies if this has been discussed already, I could'nt locate a post asking this type of question.

I currently run as Survival and I am enjoying it very much. However I noted in a random topic that someone mentioned speccing to MM after patch as it, in effect with the changes, gives you 4 free points to spend when the changes are made.

Does this neccesarily mean that MM will be the new DPS build and out do Survival now? I tried spreading the points around on a calculator but until it comes out I cant really do the math or work it out, (not so hot at this maths stuff with WoW).

Has anyone done any testing on PTR? Do any of you have any idea what you may do upon patch release?

Let me know, I want to keep up with the times and do the job the Guild requires of me. I of course will load up on ammo and whack a training dummy to hell but additional help would be nice.

Thanks in advance.

If you want to see the testing done, go here.

And for all I know people are still going for survival, albeit 0/14/57 now I think.

We'll likely talk about the testing in this handy thready, but EJ is where the information I get comes from most of the time. :D

Assuming the ES nerf is already on the live servers, and I think it is, I expect to be staying SV. There's also the reemergence of immo trap rolling, which would be awesome if it is real.

@ 14/57 - there certainly are a lot less talents you can skip in SV now. Not having aimed is really going to irritate me.

So when are we going to lock all thread except one where Aethien tells everyone to look at the sticky and a second one linking everyone to EJ?

I love EJ and though I don't post there I read it constantly but people like Alla forums and will have the same discussions here only on a lighter, more easy going basis.

@14/57

What is the build 14/57, I went to MMO Champs and could only spend 56 points in SV. The last point I looked and looked for something that would give more dmg than having aimed shot but I couldn't see anything that I had missed.

This is what I've come up with so far.

Probably an extra point in EW for uptime. I think 1/3 is cutting it close.

Yha I'm currently specced two points in EW for lack of a better option. But while 10 man raid buffed I'm pushing past 50% crit rate. I'm doubting the benefit now and thinking about switching a point to improve my traps just for the utility.

Though when the new patch goes live I'll have improved traps anyways.

If 1/3 EW proves to be enough for me, I'd likely put my last point into aimed shot. I do like having me an instant shot.

Or possibly into hawk, and keep that glyph. That one sort of depends on whether we end up getting rolling immo traps.

There will be a lot more competition for our 3 spots of dps glyphs with the newly added
Glyph of Kill Shot: reduced the cooldown on Kill Shot by 6 seconds (for a 9 second cooldown)
Glyph of Explosive Shot: Increases your crit with ExS by 4%.

Both of these come out significantly higher than any of the 3 glyphs we are currently using.
Although Kill shot varies with the length of fights, but it still comes out on top even in short fights.

So if the rolling Immo will be put in game after all, the skilled hunters will be using Kill Shot, ExS and Immo. People who aren't sure they can always, under any circumstance shoot an explosive within 3 seconds of the cooldown will be using Kill shot, ExS and serpent or steady probably.

It'll be fun to turn on recounts live dps reports and see how high you go with 9 second kill shots.
