Has anyone done Razuvious in 25 Man Naxx?Follow

My slow but steady guild is now progressing into 25 man Naxx. We went in for the first time last week and got through Plague and Arachnid. We then debated where to go next. We decided on Construct in the end and then didn't get as far as a 4th quarter but the Raid Leader wants to try Military when we go again next week.

This now leaves me going "omg omg omg omg" in my head when I realize I will have to use Mind control for the first time ever in my life. In our group we have 3 priests but we are all healers (although we have a 4th member who has a priest alt we could probably con into changing for this) This means we loose a LOT of heals if we have to mind control as obviously we can't do anything else. Also I know that even if we have 10 priests I will still be IT as the Raid Leader is very keen for me to have the pressure as he thinks I will handle. (Possibly a compliment but doesn't feel like it about now)

I was wondering if anyone has any input on this? I have never used mind control and would be interested to hear peoples experiences. I am especially interested in any ideas, tips and tricks for completing it and also any advice on if it is even possible to do this with a group composition were we would loose a LOT of healers.

I have read up on wowwiki as much as I can but I would still appreciate the wisdom of those who have been there.

Raz isn't all that healing-intensive. I've been "main healer" and still MCed that fight. Just make sure you have some hit gear (I think I have like 26 hit rating and never had a MC resist). Make the one you are MCing your /focus target, and it should go ok. The hardest part is getting your bearings after you MC. Click your MT, and /assist usually gets you back onto Raz faily quickly.

As a shadow priest, I am constantly one of the MCers for this fight.

The main limitation for this fight is keeping in range. The most difficult part is probably the pull.

I would use this macro for Mind Control:

#showtooltip Mind Control
/focus [target=focus,noexists]
/cast [nobtn:2,target=focus]Mind Control
/stopmacro [nobtn:2]
/cancelaura Mind Control
/target focus
/clearfocus
/stopmacro [nogroup]
/s Mind Control Released!

Basically what that does is focus on the mob you are MCing and cast Mind Control. When you want to recast Mind Control, you can click the button and it will recast without you having to re-target the initiate. This way you don't have to bother un-targeting Raz and re-targeting the Initiate and waste precious time.

It helps to be in good communication with the other priest. You're going to want them to use bone shield and taunt when your cooldowns are about halfway up. Making a macro to say that in raid, or just saying "Taunt" over vent works just fine. Likewise, you need to taunt Raz when the other person's cooldowns are about halfway up. When doing it correctly, your cooldowns should end about when they tell you to taunt.

It's smart to try and maneuver Raz back to where you're standing, so that you don't accidentally break MC on the Initiates prematurely.

Also, every second time the other priest taunts off you or so, manually break MC and recast it, so it doesn't break while Raz is attacking you.

The hardest part of the actual fight is casting the first MC and recasting it as soon as possible every time after. Other than that, it's pretty easy.

Good Luck!

As a shadow priest I have to do this fight literally every week. There are three things that have really caused us to wipe. The first is range, you may notice that mind control is breaking all the time and this is most likely becasue Raz got loose and your chasing him around trying to get aggro back. To avoid this keep raz very close to you and the other priest. The pull is the really annoying part of this. Ive seen it done a few different ways but the method that my guild now uses is having a warrior pull and the priests immidiatly mind control. Raz delyays for a few seconds before he charges during this intervening time the warrior or any tank really should go and stand near the priest and the priest should pick up Raz. If you are too slow at this the tank will die, but its not that big of a loss really.

The second very important thing to do in this fight is to absolutly make sure to have lots of communication between the two priests and the tanks. Let each other know when your bone shield us up and you need a taunt. Let each other know when you have succesfully taunted, so that they can break their mind control. Let the tanks know when ur going to break a mind control so that they can taunt it making it easier to mind control

The third part I already briefly adressed and it is more in refference to the acutal tanks than the priests. When your mind control breaks or you break it on purpose to recast you need to let the tanks know or the initiate will bee line twoards you and you will be helpless. Its helpfull to give each intiate raid targets so that you can say something like breaking X and the tank can ready his taunt.

Like everybody before me has mentioned, range is the big problem. Sometimes Raz gets loose or your partner pulls him to a wrong spot and you can't walk your MC there without losing him. To somewhat solve the range problem, use the pulling technique Ebenezerr just mentioned, it works wonders. Also, like Ebenezerr mentioned as well, communication is very important. Try making a macro for when your Bone Shield is about to wear off, telling your companion to use his taunt. Once your companion has done this, drop MC and recast it - if you turn this into an automatism now, your life will be a lot easier lateron.

All in all, don't worry too much. The main point of attention should be using the alternative pulling method, the tanking itself is definitely not hard at all (it's literally 2 button pushes before you go back to spamming a third for 20 seconds long). There is also plenty of room for error, even if you mess up multiple times there's a good chance you will still kill Raz.

I have enough hit gear to be hit capped (although obvs that's only in shadow spec as I have no talents to help me in Disc) will equipping all this help me keep the MC up and mean I *shouldn't* have a fail when I cast it?

I'm not completely sure on those mechanics, but yes, I think the higher your hit gear the lower the chance is of it A) missing and B) breaking early.

I haven't been asked to do it (yet, *gulp*), but I believe you are looking for 7% hit, or 184 hit rating to ensure no misses. The targets are L82, iirc.

Woohoo I'm pretty sure I have 184 hit rating in gear. I know I have enough gear to ensure I hit the hit cap in shadow spec. Thanks for all your help and I will let you know next week how I get on.

With a draenei in the party you need to have 156 untalented hit for mobs of level 82.

However (I cannot provide any links though) as far as I know this fight has been fixed since before Christmas so that hit rating is of no importance, specifically to allow priests of every spec to do the job without the worry for hit. Thats why non-shadow priests have been doing this with no hit gear and no problems in the last couple months.

I'm horde so no chance of Draenei in my party. I haven't had to do it yet but will try and look up re the hit gear although I don't think it will matter since my main stats shouldn't be an issue for this fight and if anything I have more Sta in my DPS kit.

I spoke too soon! Last few times I did this it was easy sauce.

Last night was horrible! We ended up abandoning Military wing so that we could get our other priest in tomorrow night.

I wasn't getting resisted at all, but MC was breaking very early, sometimes almost instantly. It was infuriating. Only once in the 3 attempts did my MC actually last through an entire taunt rotation. The macro Idrownfish posted helped a lot, but with range being a constant issue, even that wasn't fast enough to prevent the DPS from getting steamrolled.

I know that they said they removed the hit requirement, but EJ seems to indicate that hit is still important. I went and gemmed up my "in case I ever go shadow" gear in my bank, and tomorrow will be attempting with 325 hit. I will report my findings after the run.

It doesn't affect whether it lands, but hit does affect the heartbeat resists(aka breaking early).

I'm draenei so I automatically get +1% hit, even with that I have had 3 instant resists. Basically, the spell would land, my screen switched over to the understudy and blink I was resisted and looking back at myself. That was 3 times in a row, talk about a rough initial pull.

But that was probably a worst case scenario of bad luck. Normally, average MC lasts about 20 seconds. So I would imagine other priests with no draenei racial would have it a little worse.

Hit reduces your chance to break early. Switching to my shadow/hit gear, I have 242 hit plus my 1% racial, only time my MC breaks early is if I manually click the buff.

Absolutely right. 374 hit and had zero issues keeping MC up.

I am in Naxx 25 tonight so fingers crossed. I have hit gear but it doesn't cap me on it's own as it assumes shadow talents I don't have. Hopefully it will be enough. I think we have a guildie who has an 80 hit capped shadow priest he can bring in for this so fingers crossed. I got my macros ready and will see how I go. Luckily my guild is very patient so hopefully with food buffs and shadow gear I will be ok.

Thank you for all your guidance on this. We have a good chunk of newbies with us tonight so not sure if we will get this far, we may retire after arachnid and plague but I will make sure I am prepared anyway.

Yep, I have done this fight now 5 times as mindcontroller and it's some of the most fun I can have in the week. Also because it's always been me and my online-shadowpriest-buddy (who says you can't get friends on the internet? :) ) who have been doing this together.

The first time we were whispering to eachother about macros, tactics, tauntorder, etc. We still managed to wipe three times before we (barely) got him down. It was okay, since it was a learningprocess, and the raid and RL were very cool about it.
The second time we wiped once, due to me getting disconnected :S. Why me, of all people?
The third time we wiped once, due to my shdowpriest friend accidentally removing himself from the raid.
The fourth time, in a new guild, we one-shotted him with one death, due to a flaw in the rotation. This time we were using vent to call out to eachother.
And last Wednesday we one-shotted him with zero deaths, while impersonating murlocs to let the other know you're taunting.

I hope every priest gets to learn and do this, because it's so much fun, but thats just IMHO.

Also, if you want to prepare for this, I suggest you copy some of these macros. http://www.wowwiki.com/Instructor_Razuvious I was being creative and made my own, but the basics are the same.

I also thought this video was pretty helpful:
