Mage DPSFollow

I am seriously concerned about my mage build. I am not getting the DPS that other mages I am in parties with are getting. My rotation is Imp. Scortch x2 > Living Bomb > FFB until Hot Streak procs > Pyroblast (only during Hot Streak). When I can I am hitting Combustion and Icy Veins. I AoE Blizzard when applicable and not Flamestrike because I have checked the DPS on both and Blizzard comes out the winner. Here's my spec and gear:

http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Drak%27Tharon&n=Wardulak

I use Evocation, Imp. Scortch and FFB glyphs.

I only really shine on long drawn out fights (but even those I get less than desireable results compared to other mages), but in 5-mans I am put to shame on regular trash mobs.

Any suggestions?

Switch glyphs to Imp Scorch, FFB, Molten Armor. Get a hat with a meta socket(hugely important for a frostfire mage). Try to replace any piece of gear that doesn't pair spellpower with another DPS stat(crit/haste/hit) as those tend to replace the damaging stat with spirit.

If you are talking about doing 5mans with FFB, as we have discussed this many many many times here, FFB (or fire in general) is bad for 5mans, and begins to shine in 10s and does a lot better in 25s.

True that, though it should be doing fairly decent on AoEs.

How are you sitting Damage Out wise?

I went with the FFB build and i knew going in that dps wouldn't be as expected in 5man (thankfully a majority of other people aren't complete morons and understand that concept too). my question is, what spec WOULD be good for 5-mans? arcane? and would it be the same build for the raid arcane spec?

on a different note, with the FFB build, you should put your priorities hit rating > Crit rating > spell power > haste? i know hit and crit are the important ones but i didn't know if i should work on haste next and just try and fill up on SP or just go all SP and grab haste where i can.

and one last side track, what back enchant do you recommend? I didn't know if i should go random holy damage (slight dps increase?), random mana regen, or haste (i didn't look at the spirit/threat reducing one cause my gear isn't good enough for me to be pulling aggro that mirror image and invis cant handle)

You should never gem for hit. Getting closer to the hit cap is nice, but not required as it was in TBC. Especially if you are a few points away from capped, get them through gear or whatever, but never worth gemming for it.

The general FFB stat setup is:

Spellpower > Crit > Haste > Hit > Int > Spirit

At least for the time being.

If you have to gem an orange gem make it a potent (spell/crit). Blue is spell/stam. meta is chaotic skyflare.

For the back enchant it is quite debatable. If you are a tailor you may want to throw lightweave on, it is about 1 or 2 dps points ahead of haste, but it is not worth leveling tailoring for.

Quick question for you Anobix. My mage just dinged 78 last night and I was planning to go arcane mostly for PvE while I gear up in heroics.

What is the order for that? I'm guesing its not much different but just want to be sure.

Spellpower > Crit > Haste > Hit > Int > Spirit?

Until the spirit to crit change that is.

arcane benefits a lot more from haste than crit. So it is spell > haste > crit > int > spirit, and will probably stay that way even after 3.1

Perfect! Thanks.
