Shadow Priest not PVP?Follow

#1 Mar 13 2009 at 5:41 PM Rating: Decent
I've been reading around. In TBC, shadow was a great pvp spec, but it's lackluster now. Why is that? I haven't seen much in the way of why, just that Discipline is the way to go.

Anyone mind pointing me to some threads talking about it?

In TBC, shadow was an even worse spec than it is now for PvP. It was back in vanilla WoW that it was truly good.

Now, since 3.0 some improvements have been made. Namely, Dispersion, Improved Shadowform, and to a lesser extent Psychic Horror.

As a shadowpriest, you will be nowhere near the top of the game for PvP, and most just respec disc (still generally regarded as THE priest PvP spec).

That's not to say that Blizzard isn't paying attention to us, however. Holy is getting some love, and shadow is getting one or two much needed changes itself.

However, if you do intend to PvP as shadow, then I would highly recommend taking a look at the PvP section of Shadowpriest.com.

There you can find what builds and glyphs to use, and advice on what to do when in arena and facing certain builds, ect.

I would also recommend Alla's PvP forum/Theo's "special" place.

Good luck melting faces!

I don't think there is a "viable" for PvP. PvE, sure. If you're not up to your potential in PvE, then you need to respec. Shadow is not viable for PvE healing.

However, you CAN PvP as shadow, and there are people who do. We certainly have a range of tools at our disposal. Silence, fear, snare escapes, ect.

I'm not going to claim that we're OP. We're not. You will have a harder time PvPing as shadow than say, a Retadin. But it's not as bad as you make it seem.

Imo that post was a bad one anyway. The OP basically said "I understand shadow isn't viable for PvP but I don't know why" and Jow literally replied "Shadow is currently not viable for PvP". Which contributed nothing to the thread in any way.

I wasn't really intending to blow anyone's mind with my post, or to win post of the year. The title was "Shadow Priest not PVP?", and I responded that Spriest is not viable for PVP. Don't really see anything wrong with that. He asked a question and I confirmed his suspicions.

What I mean is that as Spriest you have few effective PVP tools, after you have dotted and cast fear you have a matter of seconds until you will more than likely be two-shotted.

Sure you can PVP - but if you want to be successful at it, and feel like you are PVP'ing effectively, don't choose Spriest. If you enjoy a challenge and don't mind dying alot, then go for it.

You will find it a little easier going for a disc/shadow build, I recently switched from full shadow to 40/0/21 and I'm finding this alot better (admittedly I came up with this spec for PVE, I have abandoned all hopes of finding a good PVP build).

I think PVP as any cloth class is difficult but the changes I see coming look promising. Jury is out for me as I have limited experience but I say try it, you might like it.

I'm sure this thread is aimed at End game pvp, as most threads are aimed at end game ... However I am rocking the lvl 49 BGs with my shadow priest! About to re-spec again to add in silence (mages nukes can be pesky)

In the 49 Bgs the only effort to kill people comes with Palies and thier bubble/ full heal skills and Groups of people. almost any 1v1 or 1v2 fight is easy pie though

After spending all of season 3 and most of 4 as shadow and getting rival in season 3 and duelist in season 4 as shadow.

I can honestly say that shadow is not even on the radar for at least arena viability in pvp. You will die and you will die fast.

The problem with shadow is the same problem that is plaguing many caster specs long cast time damage does not hold up in pvp anymore. your vt has a cast time, your mind flay has a channeled time, your mind blast has a cast time, In today's arena and pvp environment there is far to much shutdown and cc for long cast time class specs to be viable. hence why we are seeing many boomkins, shadow priests, ele shammies, and to a lesser extent fire mages go unrepresented.

Wow pvp was turned into a instant cast burst or die game, there is no time for casting times, only instant cast burst is viable.

So to answer your question i would give it a resounding no. shadow is not viable in the slightest bit if you are looking to have fun pvping. by all means if you want an ulcer then have at it.

Like others have said go disc if you want to pvp. but as a long time priest pvp'er starting way back in season 2 i will tell you the gods honest truth.

Unless you feel like being babyset by op classes in pvp or arena. dont bother pvping on a priest. I currently hold a 1800 rating on my priest as disc but it has been a hard fought road. be prepared to loose to crap geared overpowered comp teams even if your rocking full deadly. because even at 1k resil i still get crit for 40 and 50% of my total health all the time.

Take my advice, for the good of you and your partners sanity. Reroll either dk or pally then go pvp. you will be much happier in the long run.

Im sorry for the grim sounding post. but its the gods honest truth.

If you want a good pvp challenge but a solid class roll hunter, shammy, mage, rouge, feral druid.

whatever you do dont pvp as a priest unless you like to **** yourself off.
