The Art of Power InfusionFollow

...or How I bumped your dps!

Originally, I used Power Infusion on myself for the mana conservation and speed when needed. Now I find myself looking around the group to find who can benefit from it as much or even more. Casting it on a mage seems obvious for the benefit. It occurred to me that a paladin tank could benefit from PI early in a fight. Shamans and Warlocks may benefit from it, I am not familiar enough with the other casting classes to make the call. Who are likely candidates for a little infusion?

Protection Paladins probably benefit least out of any mana-based class from Power Infusion as they shouldn't have mana problems and cast a bunch of instant spells. Your "ideal" classes to cast PI on have cast times that are longer than the GCD - Mages, Elemental Shamans, and Boomkin come to mind if you're looking at DPS. Warlock I'd assume would depend on the spec -- not sure how much it would help out an affliction lock compared with destruction or demo.

Throw it on boomkins when Bloodlust goes up. The DPS buff they get at that point is obscene. While it works on Mages and Ele Shamans, it's not as good as them; Ele shamans have a couple of instants in their cast rotation (and 20% haste is better on a 3 sec cast spell than a 1.5 sec cooldown), and mages tend to use Arcane Power when Bloodlust go up which makes them immune to PI.

We do?

Only instant we cast is Flame Shock, and we only cast that once every 18 seconds to renew the ticks.

Our most cast spell is Lightning Bolt which is a 2.5 second cast untalented(I think it gets down to 2 second with the talents, but work is driving me insane and I don't feel like looking it up lol).

Basically an Elemental cast rotation is FS > LvB > LB*X > CL > LvB Where X= the number of Lightning bolts you can cast before the cooldown of LvB expires.

Excluding Hit rating(since once it's capped, it's a wasted stat) Haste is an elemental shamans second most important stat under spell power.

The goal for haste is to be able to get the perfect rotation so you aren't clipping cooldowns. That's ok though, hurt our feelings and don't give us PI.. see if we ever give you a totem buff again.

I thought Lava Burst was instant cast, but I guess I'm missing it up with Flame Shock. It probably doesn't matter too much in that case, it's just that druids seem to alternate between Wrath and Starfire and speeding that up usually works wonders.

So boomkins, mages and... ok ele shammies, too. Since you toted the totems to toss, I'll haste your heroism and heal.

-my apologies, I couldn't help myself there

Shadow priest?

Isn't that a cloth wearing fighter from the past? The words vaguely ring a bell, I'm sure I've seen them before a long time ago.

Oh yeah, I remember you guys... you are responsible for a good chunk of my levels. A slice of the PI for you as well!

I really need to get a better flashlight, mine doesn't seem to pierce those shadows.

I would say arcane mages, as their dps and rotations depend an awful lot on their mana usage. Make sure to let them know if you use it on them :D

I recently used mine in top secret subterfuge between officers *whistle* An officer in my guild and good friend was trying to out DPS our Rogue in Naxx 10 man. It was so close in the dps race one over the other constantly battling and he was whispering me about his progress (he had just respecced demo/dest and was keen to see how much more dps he could pump out, quite a lot it turns out) A few well placed PI's later and he was in front...

I noticed then how much difference it can make to the casters. I still use it on myself if the fight is mana intensive as I figure healers mana takes priority over casters in these circumstances but in trash pulls and easier bosses I love chucking it at casters and seeing what they can do with it.

this is when "i dont care about trash dps" backfires, since i will pop it on the top caster for boss fights. stack it with pain suppression for worry free dps from the start.

This is a good idea but you need to have skilled dpsers who know when to hold back and how to control there aggro otherwise as soon as it fades you get a wipefest. It depends on the fight for me if I know I can manage my mana dps get the buff if the fight is long then I keep it for myself. The art is learning who can benefit most in any given circumstances.
