Read the FAQ here and at Elitist Jerks. There's lots of good info on DKs as tanks.

A too short summary: Spend 5/5/5 in the talent trees then fill out mostly in frost. Always use a two-handed weapon. Spam pestilence safely far away from sheeps. Keep your diseases up on your main target at all times. Strangulate casters to pull them when you have a second caster in a group that needs to be pulled or use regular LOS tricks. Mark targets for kill order so DPS in your party knows what targets to beat upon.

A. Why Frost? He can tank in whatever tree he wants.

B. Why Strangulate to pull? You can just death grip. Strangulate is a powerful silence, and best saved for when you want it. You CAN use it, but I would personally save it when possible.

C. Try to keep diseases up on all targets, not just the main. This is especially important if you are frost or unholy. And every tank is gonna want imp Icy touch for the mitigation it offers. 6% slower attack speed on a large group of enemies is pretty awesome.

D. Other than that, some solid advice. Don't DW until Blizz tries to buff it, or you get really good gear/skill on farmed content. It'll take more of these two aspects, because you will take more damage, produce less TpS, and have a much harder time dealing with burst threat from DpSers.

Second that. The current advantages in avoidance and mitigation that the frost tree offers are going to outright disappear or be considerably nerfed in 3.1. Overall though, Blood is the weakest tanking spec.

Personally I would save death grip for better uses. It's hardly necessary for the initial pull and it's our only taunt.

On normal trash pulls, I don't think it matters. I would rather have two silences available with multiple casters. And it isn't our only taunt. Its the only taunt available when the mob is attacking us.

And you are going to want threat on that caster anyway, so it isn't like you waste it in any way.

I just think you sacrifice a lot of control for less benefit using a silence to pull over Death Grip.

I never said anything about pulling with silence. What's our other taunt ability? I might be overseeing it but Death Grip is the only one I can count.

The conversation was about pulling casters... You want to get them in melee range, and can do it by forcing them via Death Grip or a silence. So, saying not to use DG kinda infers you should use the other...

Dark Command is the other taunt, only effective when the target is attacking someone else.

Dark Command is the taunt.

Do not believe the hype about frost tree being 'the' tanking tree. When 3.1 hits, frost, however, might look really good with imp frost presence. That will give a damage reduction of 2% for all damage done. That will be really tempting.

But, until 3.1 hits, get 5/5/5 (blade barrier/toughness/anticipation) as a base for talents. the next deep talents that are recommended are either bone shield or unbreakable armor.

The main thing you will need to do is get your defense up to 535/540. That will make you uncrittable. After that, you will have to work on your stamina and avoidance. It is recommended you get those as high as you can. There is a really good rune, the rune of the stone gargoyle. Yes, even if you have the 535/540, you still can use it. The really nice about it is, it will boost up your dodge and parry. I was sitting at 544 def and around 16% dodge and parry, with that rune, it shot my dodge and parry up to around 18%, well worth putting it on my weapon.

I am not going to be an **** and say it is 'easy' to get tank gear. It is a pain. If you really want it, you will have to work for it. there are stickies on wowhead.com and mmo-champion.com about where that gear is.
