My pet got smaller when tamedFollow

#1 Mar 10 2009 at 9:09 AM Rating: Default
I caught my first pet, a bat in Everwood Forest.
It was a very big bat, but when I tamed it, it's size got so little.
Is there a way to get my pet on it's real size again?

Pet size scales with level, all you can do is level up. The pet's effectiveness isn't diminished by its size.

Though it will get bigger with levels, it will probably not be the original size again.

In the case of the bat maybe not, but some pets seem to do things a little differently--the huge wasps from Sholazar, among others. (My belf's ravager barely shrank when she tamed it, and now it's as tall as she is.) Bats are big flappy annoying things to most players, though, so it's probably for the best that they don't grow too dramatically.

Just wait till you tame an Elite Raptor and watch it shrink.

It's even in the index. That being said, tone it down a notch yuppley.

Just trying a nice tactic mentioned by Is..

This information is mentioned in the WotLK FAQ
Quote:

Do pets gain experience and level?
What determines a pet's size?

Yes. They gain experience at a slower rate than you, but also take less to level. The pet tab in your character window will show you your pet's experience bar. A pet will not gain experience when it is your level, to keep the pet from outleveling you.

Each level makes your pet an effective level higher, raising stats and increasing their chance to hit and be missed. It also gives the pet a few extra training points and makes them a tiny bit bigger. All pets of a given type and level are the same size. If you tame some huge behemoth, it will shrink as it becomes loyal to you. (Funny and depressing at the same time.)

Pets will always be at most 5 levels behind you. That means if you tame a level 5 pet at 80 he will magically turn 75 right away.

EDIT: forgot to bold the relevant part to the OP

I haven't really noticed my pet getting larger in size as it levels. Of course it was a Devilsaur so it shrunk to the size of a tiny raptor but really hasn't grown much to my knowledge. I swear I saw a gnome once with a massive dino but then again maybe the sheer difference of gnome to a dino made him look bigger.

As a social experiment, try taking a pic of your hunter now and again at 80 and compare them, preferably with the same surrounding scenery; 3 levels may or may not be able to garner you the difference, but it'd be interesting to see.

If you definitely want to see the change, make a new hunter and tame a pet same as one your 80 character can use and compare those. I think it's not noticed while you level up because it happens in baby steps so you get used to the new sizing. :)
