Hunter FAQ and youFollow

I have noticed a lot of quick hunter questions and quite a few replies that people are not checking the FAQ. These threads quickly escalate into burn threads that become default or sub-default. If you have a question on general hunter mechanics, post in the FAQ sticky, trust me people check it often and if we can't answer your question I'm sure Aeth will.

I'm not saying I condone bad questions or laziness, but let's at least try to clean the forums up while helping new players or old in the hunter community!

EDIT: Also post in the Help Me thread, same bat time, same bat channel!

I know I keep an eye on both threads.

If you can't find your answer in the sticky, it probably means you aren't looking in the right place, so let us know and maybe we can make it more obvious.

On the other hand, sometimes things aren't in the sticky, then let us know there and we'll add it.

By doing so also add to the usefullness of the FAQ so there's just no downside to this.

Sadly I'm sure people will continue to make the "what's the best pet" threads no matter how hard we try.

The posts about the sticky will fall off of the first page (although on this forum it will likely take a month) so newer posters will not always have this information.

People like to post in forums, IN THIER OWN THREAD, makes them feel important or maybe that they will get quicker responses. I am not sure there is anything wrong with this, if you do not want to respond - don't.

It's our forum. Collectively. That's what forums are. As a forum regular I like threads that ask interesting questions. I like debating playstyle, and talent choices. I don't like seeing or reading really simple questions that show that the person has not even looked at the sticky.

I don't usually lash out at people, however I will point new people to the sticky. Most forums on the internet have stickies, because they outline how the forum works. That's what the sticky is for. When I answer a question I assume the person asking is somewhat familiar with the information there.

Forums are defined by people who post in them. This forum is a helpful one, but we don't like stupid or repetitive questions.

There is something wrong with this. That's the point. It won't get you a quicker response. I check the help me and faq threads. If someone asks a dumb question there I'll just answer them and usually link them to the part of the sticky that also answers the question.

Small simple questions push actually interesting posts off the top of the page. People will then miss them, and we'll lose out on their contribution.

Lots of "I" statements in there. My point is - your "status" as a forum regular is meaningless (especially to people new to this forum). Your desires are as meaningless to me as mine are to you.

Many people look at the sticky with insufficient knowleged to truly process the information there, or maybe they don't have the attention span to read the entire document, or maybe they don't have the jargon down yet, or maybe they are looking for confirmation, or believe somthing else and are looking for a second opinion, or maybe they yearn for the comfort of communication in any form......

There are more posts about sticky/faq/helpme usage than interesting debates on playstyle.

Uggg, if thats the case, then the O-boards are <---------that way. Before I started every class I played, I read the entire sticky of that forum section on this site as well as any other site I could find. Then I started my level 1 dude. And I have to say, the Hunter and mage stickies are the best/most informative stickies I've seen.

now, Xsarus, I've even asked this before and still there is no help in the damn sticky, so if you could point me to the place to tell me how to get invited to a lesbian cheerleader slumber party, then point away.

Seeing it multiple times a day, every day, gets real tiring real quick.

Then again, all of the nice people out there who frequently use the Karma system usually put an end to any..."lashings out".

Take a look at THIS.

    Bad

-Red box indicates the obvious obviousness of the Stickies (HOW DOES ANYONE IGNORE THESE?).
-Purple indicates threads that are answered IN THE STICKY, and asked multiple times (This is where I "lash out").
-Blue indicates general "stupidity" that don't deserve threads. (Twinks? Gear? Baddies ingame?).
-Green indicates 5 Sub-D'd threads, and that's not even the entire first page!

    Good

-Yellow boxes indicate threads about new patches (Open for discussion, new talents/changes, etc.)
-Pink boxes indicate REAL QUESTIONS (WWS/Raiding, questions not answered in the sticky, bugs, general discussion, occasionally Arena if we're lucky :D)

Finally, the white box, the oddity (it's bad too though).
-Black Arrow thread belongs in one of the 3.1 discussion threads.

I did not feel I could speak for the the forum, however this feeling is echoed in posts others have made. You are wrong. A forum is made up of the people who contribute to it. This can develop into an elitist club attitude, and I try not to let this happen at least with my own posts. However, I will point people to the sticky, as I have spent a fair amount of time helping build it.

If someone can't find the time to read the sticky they won't understand my answer anyway, as I assume you have the knowledge contained therein.

You are of course free to respond to stupid questions.

It won't if there is some shameless bumping of this thread to remind people where some very good resources are.

I agree with Yuppley, I have seen a recent outbreak of identical questions (although the posters may work things differently in an attempt to scam the newbies) so that is why I made this thread.

My pondering is that if they can't see the actual stickied thread that says "FAQ" or "EVERY QUESTION ANSWERED HERE", how are they any more likely to see one that just gets bumped all the time? Smiley: tongue

I would have to say that the hunter community is using the FAQ and Help Me threads quite well recently.. even Yuppley!

i seriously doubt that anyone who makes threads like the ones you are warning against are currently reading this. They live in their own little world where they dont have to do anything and people will give them everyting.

How about, stop coming the the Hunter forums if you're just going to flame in every topic on the first page?

I know this is a really stupid noob question, but I'm actually a noob, but what is a 'sticky'? I have a lot of questions about the game but I'm almost certain 90% of them have been asked and answered numerous times before when all the now veterns were noobs themselves. I'd like to find where I can get the old answers but I really hope that the 'stickies' are easier to find GOOD information than some of the ramblings and rants I find in the forums now when I search for information.

The stickies are the threads that stick to the top, a.k.a. the FAQ, the HELP ME thread and the pre-raid thread.

Well, recently, Life has seriously interfered with my ability to even play the game, let alone contribute on the Forums. All is okay now, but bizzare for a while there.

In any event, I've noticed how little things really changed here, even with 3.1 now fully in play. I appreciate those of you that are keeping the stickies up even for a 'semi-regular' like me. When 3.1 hit, I was totally unprepared for that 'first' session and had to scour here for information on what the heck changed. You guys are a lifesaver as usual.

To reply specifically to the comments about newbies and their incredible way of avoiding the obvious, don't forget that some of those newbies aren't really ready for 'forum life' much less WoW terms tossed around like mad here. It's a lot to swallow in a short amount of time, kind of like drinking from a firehose. So, I don't blame them if they read the sticky and get even more confused. That's about the time we should be pointing the 'truely new' at hunter guides and not forcing them to take 'the short course' here in the forum.

So kudos to those that are keeping it all relevant here, but don't forget to keep that first breath of patience. You can breathe fire on them if they don't seem to get the idea they need to do work and read up!

To be fair, this is one of the only class forum with updated stickies. If you're coming from another class forum, say shaman or warrior, you will most likely take for granted that the stickies are outdated and useless. Of course this is no excuse for not checking them out anyways but the "check the sticky first" mentality does not really apply in other class forums.

That being said, great job keeping it up to date. I've been playing WoW for more than 2 years but I just rolled a hunter for the first time a few weeks ago. I did check the stickies and I found pretty much all the info I needed. Really well done.

The FAQ is slightly out of date, Aethien would say so as well, so take some stuff with a grain of salt.

Oh, nice necro too ;)
