Hello friendly forum folk, I've lurked these forums for quite a long time now and decided to make my debut with a drunken rogue request/question.
I play mut and I have since the directional change. I have recently given up on my 80 rogue and started lvling a priest in order to re-awaken my joy for the game...but I digress cutting to the chase..
I want something else for 5 points other than seal fate. The way I see it, for all intents and purposes I crit 50% of the time with mut providing 3 combo points. Which results in at worst a wasted combo point, and at best the only way to achieve 5 points with a mut build (sans ruthless). this seems flawed to me for some reason, I would rather just not have it. Without it, its impossible to get 5 points.
What I want is a reason not to take it. Right now there is nothing I would rather have to lose the points, and as stated earlier, you can't get 5 points without it. If you crit twice though, throughout your individual rotation, you waste a point only to optimize one ability, rupture (and relatively enven/evis but I never desire a 5 point either). With the upcoming hfb changes rupture will be quite important.
I guess the idea I have rumbling through my head would be a 5 talent point tier that involves a 6th combo point that is only available when SnD is up. I say SnD because besides hfb, it's the only thing im really concerned about not letting drop. This would imo negate the negative pvp implications of having a 6th combo point. My best idea would be to have the 6th point apply to all finishers except expose armor and cheap shot. It would also imply a 6th stack of DP. The positives would be more snd time without imp snd/snd glyph, more rupture time (important with the upcoming hfb changes), and a slightly higher envenom/evis dmg on trash. I know snd isnt really an issue, but the flaw in the whole rotation/priority system that mut is; is refreshing at the right times, ie you dont want to have rupture/snd/hfb all ticking a second from each other, or you are destined to have one of them fail. It would allow for min/max'er to achieve greatness b/c by not taking seal fate you have the ability to find yourself an optimum cycle, and the ability to actually get full cp's and use them at your pleasure. I find myself waiting for rup to fall so I can get a 5 point uptime, which meanwhile ticks hfb and snd lower than I would like. This would also provide a damn good reason to have the mut glyph and provide some type of player style involvement in your build.
Why keep seal fate in the tree at all then, b/c its still great for pvp and you want the rng on your side to get 5 points with a lower assn dedication like standard mut/prep builds. Working it in would require some talent changes to allow one to get that high in the tree without taking seal fate.
Just a random thought I had, and felt it had to be put out there
