Quick melee stat questionFollow

#1 Mar 06 2009 at 5:57 PM Rating: Default
I know hunters are not mainly melee but i need some advice.

When purchasing a weapon (not range) i know we should be focusing on stats, but if a weapon has a little higher dps (maybe 3 - 4) points higher then what you have but stats are a little lower (like +5 points on agility or int. instead of +7 which you have...) would you keep what you got or buy the higher dps?

Or all in all are 1 to 2 points not going to make that much of a dramatic difference?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Yuppley is correct, as usual.

Seriously, asking if you should go for a melee weapon with lower stats and higher DPS is, I dunno, like a Warrior asking if he should go for a weapon with lower DPS because it has some Intellect on it. (Insert joke about said fictional Warrior definitely needing a boost to Int here.)

Melee weapon DPS does not matter for a Hunter at all, because a Hunter should never be DPSing in melee. Ever.

So one would assume then that your melee weapons have never EVER, at all, at any time, in no way, under no circumstances, been used?

Gosh, that makes you rather impressive.

I want to be you. I mean.... you have never engaged in melee!!!!! Even levels 1 - 10? WOW!!!!! You are truly a Goddess among Hunters.

And perhaps some peeps could READ THE F*$KIN% OP'S POST PROPERLY and understand he is asking for opinions of others.

the sticky is the opinion of the person who wrote it, not the general alla population. More and more lately I have been reading answers to peoples questions and those answers all appear to say Read the f-ing sticky or If you dont know then dont play!!!

The majority of this forum USED to be sensible and polite and able to hold their patience with Newby questions. Now it appears an awful lot of impatient Elitist twonks are appearing and trying to be the greatest ever Put down poster or King flamer.

Yuppley you acted like a d*ck, give the guy a break, try saying, "You will find all the answers you need in the above sticky, if you cant make head or tails of it please PM me and I will see if I can help, and as for my personal opinion I prefer........"

But its okay Yuppley, your in a growing crowd of d*cks, and I am not going to be one of them. From here on in I will observe this forum only rather than post and risk some larger than life, cellar dwellar decides to rip me a new hole for asking a question.

Happy to leave you all to your increasingly Elitist, ***** posting, Flametarded responses and game hate. You, the nasty answerer of posts is responsible for putting someone of this site. Other sources exist other than this now WoW europe forum post resembling site.

Occasionally dabbling in some light melee (that is, accidentally hitting Thaddius on the way through, or having to wing clip in pvp) is not the same thing as DPSing in melee--that is, filling your role as a damage-dealing party member through melee attacks. The entirety of a hunter's proper role in melee is to get back to range again as soon as possible. Even when trap dancing you really shouldn't be in melee range long enough to do much more than drop your load and gtfo. Sure, it's wise to keep your melee skills high, but in a group setting if you are hitting anything besides critters with your melee weapons on a regular basis, you are doing something wrong.

As for "personal opinion"... I could ask you guys what your personal opinion on 2 + 3 is, 5 or 6. I'm only asking for an opinion, that means even if there's a right answer and a wrong answer you're not allowed to present them as anything but equally reasonable alternatives, amirite? Smiley: oyvey

edit--and yes, I have to brag a little, I have never meleed during levels 1-10 after I tried it on my first hunter (my first toon in fact, a Troll who never made it much further than 40) and someone very kindly explained that hunter melee is ****. I kited everything. So yeah, it's possible.

There is a sticky for a reason, It answers questions.

And Morganne you can take your cry baby goody goody attitude and just leave. This forum seems to tolerate and even condone stupidity. We are recieving an ever increasing number of people who do not contribute at all in any positive way. People who ask the same ******* quesions without doing a search, people who are lazy posters. So if a few people lash out at an occasional asstard, I am happy for that. that shows me that their are still a few people here who refuse to tolerate and put up with mediocrity, stupidity, and ignorance.

If you have a question, look for it first, if you are to damn lazy to do a search, or read one of the FAQs then stand by. I am not saying we should adopt the standards of EJ here. If we did 90% of posters would be perma-banned. All we ask for is that you give some effort to what you want to find out. It upsets me that Allah wow forums are the dumping pot for the retards and ******** who arent allowed to post such mundane and ignorant questions/comments elsewhere.

It's funny because you're so wrong. We're so nice to new people these days. I don't condone yuppley's rage, but you really have no idea.

Until you get to Northrend that is and find some horrible surprises in store.

Like the Drakkendsryd where you have to melee to complete it, no pet, no room to manoeuvre.

Or the bit where you're wing-walking on Brann Bronzebeard's plane. Again no range or pet.

I wander around with a big slow axe which has loads of AGI and AP and maxed skill with it but those were still nasty. I'd be tempted to carry something more DPS with a melee enchant for use in those situations.

In reply to the OP it sounds curiously like someone who just got bawled out for rolling Need on a dps weapon Smiley: smile

No don't lose AGI or AP on your weapon for a DPS gain. Most certainly don't "buy" the upgrade. But somewhere along the way maybe find bagspace for a melee weapon for when you find yourself sharing the back of a dragon with a very angry vyrkul.
