OK, a little backstory, if you'll indulge me. My guild, in the last couple of days, has shredded. We were at the stage of toddling off to NaxTen. Then we had one God-almighty emoplosion. The 'he said, she said bullcrap', recriminations, stroppy outbursts of Dallas-esque proportions. So, the guild dissolved and I find myself guild-less.

OK, so an unaffiliated Tank needs a new place to hang her hat (well, Titansteel Helm). What I am concerned about is gearing. I've put together as set that seems to work well for me thus far (heroics only). I am hoping for constructive feedback regarding build and gear/ gem choice.

As you might imagine, when applying to a new guild I dont want to be seen like the MP5 guy that Bhod's guild so appreciated:)

So, any feed back, hints tips etc would be v. cool.

P.S I have checked here, I think avoidance is a bit low, but badge items will address that...I hope.

TY all, for any input .

Oh, yeah...armoury link would help....

I'm not protection, and never have been, but I would recommend downloading Rawr:

Rawr

Which will allow you see upgrades and different items on your character. You can pin a character here and view upgrades for different slots, also check out Elitist Jerks prot paladin thread:

Shoulders: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=37115 BoE blues. Pretty much the best blue tank shoulders, and they've always been cheap on my server.

Belt: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=40689 Emblem Belt. I haven't yet found a better tank belt inside Naxx or anywhere else.

Boots: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=44201 I know, you're thinking "I already have epic boots," but I HATE the titansteel pieces. I hate blacksmithing plate in general, except the Daunting Handguards, and your gloves are better than those. More defense, some hit, same STR, less stam. I think they're better. And I'd prefer the 22 stam enchant over yours.

Trinkets: Your Lavanthor's Talisman is fine. I used that for a long time. Try to drop Dabiri's and get http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=37220 from Heroic Azjol Nerub, http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=40683 from emblems, or http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=36993 from Normal/Heroic HoL.

Edit: AN, not Nexus.. Oh, and why the 16 STR gem in your belt?

One thing that sticks out to me like a sore thumb is that you still have Dab's Enigma as a trinket. Yeah, it is a dandy trinket, but the one from Loken in regular HoL has a lot higher defense rating, which will later allow you to go for higher avoidance items in your other slots that may have somewhat lower defense.

Your gear is fine for heroics, and really even fine for OT in Naxx-10 (maybe even MT if you really know what you are doing, but I would like to see 25k health unbuffed at least for MT in general).

Your spec looks fine, your gear looks decent for where you are at right now... no real major glaring flaws that I could see. The biggest thing is your enchants (or lack thereof).

The only thing you should enchant for Strenght is probably your weapon. +20 Str (regular Potency) is still a good enchant there. The titanium weapon chain isn't terribad, it just isn't optimal. Everything else should either be enchanted for Stam or Defense.

Heavy Borean armor kits on anything you do not have enchanted will at least give you +18 stam. Your shield should either be enchanted with +18 Stam or +20 Defense +18 Stam would give you more health and more spellpower (admitedly a whopping 5.4 increase) which would probably be better than that shield spike. Your chest should have an armor kit (+18 Stam) or either +8 stats or +10 stats (probably +8 stats, +10 would be a bit expensive for a chest you are not going to keep very long). Bracers should have a stam enchant or an armor kit. You should take the time to at least get to honored with the Sons of Hodir and get the lesser tanking shoulder enchant. All pretty minor stuff really. Until you can get the SoH shoulder enchant, throw a +18 stam armor kit on those as well. Your gloves are probably not going to be around long enough to spend the money for Armsman on them, so an armor kit there for now would be good as well. Just in +18 stam armor kits alone you could probably raise your base stam by around 72. Once you get better gloves, go with Armsman for the enchant.

So basically, get the trinket from Loken in regular HoL to replace your Dab's Enigma, and at least put armor kits on your unenchanted gear and maybe switch up a few things. By doing that you are going to raise your defense, avoidance and threat all a bit as well as your stamina. I wouldn't be surprised if you were over 25k health just from armor kits and changing your shield enchant to +18 stam (heck, even the Titanium Plating for your shield would probably be better than that spike). Don't worry about the HoL trinket making your defense "too high". First of all, too high is not a bad thing as far as defense goes, and secondly, as you upgrade, the items will have less defense, but will have things like dodge, parry, and block rating on them.

I wouldn't say you have anything to be embarrased about and any reasonable guild is going to see that you are headed in the right direction, but I would for sure say there are a few relatively minor things you could do to improve really quickly.

Good luck, and I hope the next guild goes better for you!

I would echo what's already been said. Just to put more emphasis on certain points:

- focus on that Sons of Hodir rep, which you are probably doing already :) Pretty easy to earn their rep, and gives the shoulder enchants.

- enchant stuff, even if just the Borean kits. It's better than nothing at all, and they are generally cheap.

- bracer could use stam instead of strength.

- Potency on your weapon is, imo, far better.

- stam, defense, or that BV thingy that blacksmiths make (I forget what it's called right off hand) would each be a better option for your shield then a spike.

- I'm confused about the +16 strength and +16AP/+12 stam gems. Would go with some more tankish gems personally, but maybe those are just what you had available atm :) 24 stam in belt and 8 dodge/12 stam in ring are probably what I'd go with.

- the Enigma as others have said, needs replacing. The Emblem trinket is amazing.

Like the others said, you are definitely on the right track. You actually have more health, and I think more avoidance, than I had when I started MTing Naxx10, so assuming you know what you're doing, I don't see any reason you couldn't get in and start tanking runs. Don't fret too much about your avoidance being low though. It's not all that easy to get avoidance on gear outside of raids/possibly Heroics, but once you start getting raid drops, the avoidance will come.

One other thing on gear: I don't personally like the cloak you have. It's a Druid cloak, lacking defense, but you ahve an abundance of defense right now. As you get raid gear though, you may find yourself needing more, and that cloak would be a good place imo to get some. Wyrmrest Accord has a clock with good defense, 43, and has 64 stamina.

GL to you finding a new guild, hope that works out :) Again, looks you are definitely on the right track. Always happy to give input :)

OK, thanks guys for the input, advice and pointers- all very helpful.

Quick update;

Dabs Enigma...yeah...*blush*. Haven't run HoL yet, but I will be...a lot, depending on droprate. Still wince when I see that equipped.

Armour kits, ok why the hell didn't I think of them. D'oh. Patched into shoulders and hands now.

Picked up Greater Potency for the sword, +8 stats for the chest. I bought an Armsman scroll for when I get my Valorous Gloves- as one said, little pricey for gloves I'll keep for maybe a week.

Rep-wise, I'm just shy of honoured with SoH- like pulling teeth atm; necessary, but unfun. Representing Argent Crusade as well, so i can get the armour plating for the shield. The spike was what I thought was best for threat-gen at the time.

Picked up belt of living iron as well- decent stats on it, and looks like it should last a while.

Cheers, once again, for the thoughts folks :)

Ttfn,

Jon

If gold isn't much of an issue, you can buy SoH rep off the AH(Relics of Ulduar), about 3k worth will get you exalted in about 10min depending on your server's prices:)

And just to reiterate some of the things mentioned already:
replace str gems with enduring emeralds(+8def/+12stam) or dodge/stam gems.

You should have plenty of def to drop Dabiri's Engima for really any other trinket you can find. If you come up a little
short you still have your shield you can drop +20 def on if needed(otherwise get the +40Block Value).

40stam to bracers as soon as you get an upgrade.

As for the weapon, you're most likely stuck with that wpn for quite awhile, i'd suggest a titanium weapon chain(28hit/disarm time reduced) until you have over 200hit, then swap it out for 20 str or 26 agi enchant.
