Scared Hunter Confesses..DPS,, a problem??Follow

I know I'm going to get ripped, but here I go.

Last night in Naxx 10 man, we went up against Patchworks, which we all know is a straight DPS burn down. I hear you guys talking about numbers in the 4,500-5,500 range on this fight with toons geared very similar to me. My DPS was a constant 2,600 all night long! Where's the DPS?

Here is the question: When I'm firing shots ( SpS, ES, Aimed ) sometimes I get excited and cannot tell if the shot goes off or if it is still on cd. So I will spam that shot until I see it on the target ( xpearl ). I didn't think that it would make a big difference if I pressed that shot 2-4times, and was just trying to get the shots off as fast as possible. The only thing that I can put my finger on is user error. So, does it matter how many times you try to take a shot or try using a shot that's on CD by mistake??

The Armory is down or I would link my toon. My gear is not the problem, as I'm sure I will here it is something I'm doing wrong.

I have posted a WWS before, but the only comments I received were to use Steady Shot more. Missing a few SS is not going to reduce 2-3K DPS...or is it??

Thank you

This is a big problem. Spamming shots that are on cool-down will kill DPS. It's that simple. There are addons that actually darken out the icon for shots on cooldown- that might help if you are unsure if you have cast them or not. Otherwise you should be getting messages about "spell not ready" or "a stronger spell already exists" message when you are spamming. These mean you are only doing autoshot DPS which is BAD. I know I get ahead of myself on serpent sting all the time and when I see that message I get pissed- it's telling me I'm a noob and am sucking serious DPS air. If you are using some sort of rotation don't get too excited, go through your shots and things will be OK. Blizz now has the keylogger that stores your last button pushed to overcome latency issues so overspamming is also not recommended.

Also, are you trap-dancing for patch also? If you are survival you should be using frost traps to override the LnL CD timer.

Don't bother.

As to your WWS, you weren't missing a few steadies. You were missing a ton of steadys

Check the meter per fight. I was doing 2.5k over all and felt depressed then when I check per fight and looked at per fight n patchwerk I got 4k which made me happy.

Why? Is it because of the hitbox VS trap trigger radius issue? I never get to run Patch (always done before I get into the raid for some reason) so I didn't know there was an issue... sorry for bad advice Xsar ><

2 fold. It's a marginal dps increase, that for someone who isn't comfortable with their rotations anyway will lower their dps. The other reason is that it's gone in 3.1 anyway. Just stand exactly 30 yards away and boom. I use range finder and I watch my buffs, but so far I'm not missing anything from being too far away.

Put down traps when it's convenient, but I wouldn't bother otherwise.

Patch is a very easy fight, you don't even have to look at him so you can look at your action bars if you have to. Spamming shots that are on CD will ruin your DPS by a large margin.

Try and get an addon that will alert you when things go off CD, can't remember any names off the top of my head, but it seems from your story that would really help you. Try using abilities like this. Serpant>ES>Aimed>Steady>Steady repeat. And when LnL procs i tend to go. Make sure Serpant has around 6 seconds left, if not refresh, then ES>Aimed/Steady/ES/Aimed/Steady etc. The aim of it is to make sure your ES has full time to tic before you refresh it.

That's all i can really say to help you out, so if you're dps is still low after that then make sure you're using the Saronite Razorheads.

This is true, I guess I was just giving them all options for increasing DPS with our current patch. Mechanics will change come 3.1 (anyone know date when you can expect it?), just like they seem to change with every patch lately. But I agree if you aren't using a good rotation or aren't comfortable with one trap-dancing will just make it more complicated.

well I went to your other post and grabbed your armory from there. Are you logged in your raid gear, if so it says you have a hit rating of 62 which is your problem.

WOW, the numbers have increased quite a bit. I'll record a WWS on test dummies or a raid and post it, but just hitting the test dummies DPS has increased. Everything seems slower or less to do, but the numbers do not lie! As long as I only try to weave in 2 SS shots, I'm fine. When I try for a third steady, the rotaion goes to crap.

So, slow and steady wins the DPS war. All the hunters in my guild play the same way, so I hope that this has helped out a lot of other huntards like myself.

I'm still wearing my Frost gear from my last raid. With the gear I have, I am forced to spec 3 points into FA and with a hit of 170, I am hit capped.

Thanks again for all the help, this site (you guys) have made the game a blast to play!

Thank you
