Pet Talent / Action Bar questionFollow

First - I have tried to see if there was another thread already dealing with this topic and couldn't find one that answers my question; I also checked the the Hunter FAQ here and I looked at Petopia.

My question, as I spec my pet, they get new talents. Some are passive (spiked collar, great stamina, etc.) while others seem to require them to be equipped on the pet's bar; such things like Heart of the Phoenix or Lick Your Wounds. Is this correct or do the talents they get remain active, if they are on the Action Bar or not?

If they have to be on the Bar, is there a resource to check out the different possible configurations?

Thanks

talents in your spell book will be active if they have the "active" circle around them, just like the ones on your pet bar. The idea is that you put the spells you want to trigger manually onto your pet bar, and then leave the auto ones in the spell book.

There are some bugs with this, the talents in the spell book sometimes turn on by themselves, so if you want something to stay disabled you have to check it often, or put it on the pet bar.

The heart of the pheonix is one that you have to cast on your pet. It is like Kill Command, you cast the spell on your pet. These would be ones you have on your petbar to manually activate. Other melee skills (like your pet's focus dump or even cower now that it has been patched) are ones you can leave in your pet's spellbook page and they will autocast if highlighted.

EDIT: Lick your Wounds is indeed autocastable by pet

Though I have always been confused about "Heart of the Phoenix" because I'm pretty sure in the skill description, unless it's been changed recently, that it was a passive skill. I never understood why you should have to physically activate a passive skill.

Is anyone else still having problems with prowl turning on automatically. I thought they were supposed to fix that problem with the last patch. It isn't happening as often as before but enough to be annoying.

It can be either. It used to be only a passive skill, but the problem is that often the pet would rez and get insta killed right away again. It works better to give hunters the option to cast it when they want. You can right click the skill and it will go on autocast though.
