DPS HelpFollow

#1 Mar 02 2009 at 9:04 PM Rating: Decent
Im one of those many Rogues needing help with overall DPS. I've been told with my current gear I should be around 2100 dps but I tend to linger around 1800 dps most of the time. My hit rating is a little on the low side but Im trying to improve it through gear.

Gear:
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Area+52&n=Sliencer

Build:
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-talents.xml?r=Area+52&n=Sliencer

Rotation:

HFBx3
Garrote
Mut - Mut - Rupture
SS - SnD
Mut - Mut - Envenom
Mut - Mut - Rupture
Mut - Mut - Envenom
(rinse and repeat while keeping HFB stacked at all times)

Sometimes I can throw in a Mut - Expose Armor before renewing HFB or SnD throughout the rotation.

Poisions:
DP/DP or DP/IP

Any help would be great! Thanks!

First of all thank you for posting your armory.

As for your spec:

You really need to put 5 points into relentless strikes. It is pretty important for a raider

Imp Slice and Dice isn't needed with a Mutilate build. With Cut to the Chase all you have to do is remember to Envenom/Evis to refresh it.

Vigor is one of those points that are not really needed.

Ok, I will link a build at the bottom of this post, but as for your rotations Vulajin over on Elitist Jerks has made a great spreadsheet for you to maximize your dps.

Maybe this is just me, but I have never heard of anyone using Sinister Strike in a mutilate rotations. I could be wrong because I haven't played my rogue in awhile. I still miss you Therion :P

Try something like this. Although, I do think there are builds that take out Murder and put in Quick Recovery.

Good luck

Based on what? Supposition? Or do they have a reliable mathematical model showing as much?
Grrr.... I hate that whole "you should be XYZ" nonsense when it has nothing to back it up other than guesswork. MEH!.

Here's my preferred raiding Mutilate build. At least, it's the one I used for Sarth =)

Note that Turn the Tables is there over Master Poisoner because we had a very high attendance Ret Pally (their buff and the one from Shammies will knock our MP one off). If you do not have the buff from elsewhere, bring it. Also note that I experimented with Imp SnD with some success once I scored some more hit gear. But that's a bit more involved (it can be used to synch with Rupture uptime). Vigor "can" also be of some use (taking the point from Imp Poisons) when glyphed, but that involves an odd type of energy pooling that's more pain than it's worth IMO.

As the Hunter (grrr!) noted: Vulajin's spreadsheet is teh awesome. It can really help you optimize but it's not a magic eight-ball. It'll only point to potential, not guarantee results =)

Sinister Strike does not belong in any Mutilate rotation. Evis only on trash, Envenom is better on bosses of course (although this could be argued within certain criteria) due to bypassing armor. Mutilate on short trash (2 or 1), FoK on big trash (3+).

I fell into the habit with poisons of swapping from trash to boss. Of course, I did the same with gear but .... I used WP/WP on trash and DP/IP (IP on the faster weapon) for bosses. Seemed to work great compared to my experiments with different set ups.

And finally here's my mutilate "rotation" speech: There aren't any.

Think of Mutilate more in terms of priority rather than any set rotation à la Combat. HfB > SnD > Rupture. Dropping Rupture is excusable. Dropping the others is not.

Other than that, read up, practice, run a stupid silly amount of heroics and here's to phat lootz!

Side note: Where were you Feyras??? We did an alt naxx25 and you were nowhere to be found.... L2login nub =)

OUCH!!! That hurt. You don't ever see my posting on the Hunter forums. My heart will always be in a rogue.

Besides, I'm leveling a paladin anyways Smiley: laugh

Edit: Aren't you the one selling out on rogues for that friggin DK class? Hypocrit.

To the OP, few things I'd change.

1. +18 stam enchant on your chest. ewww, gross. At least get +8 stats, if you have $, +10
2. Your weapons....they are backwards. Put the faster weapon in your off-hand w/ IP, and the slower harder hitting weapon in your main hand w/ DP. That alone should increase your dps a bit.

I have fairly similar gear (more hit, less AP than you) and I am well above 2500 on boss fights.

Two things I can suggest. First of all, ditch the Twilight Mist in your OH and grab a Librarian's Paper Cutter. I haven't been keeping up with AJ lately but I'm rocking fastest weapon in Mainhand with IP and slower in OH with DP, capping out at 4.3k dps on Patchwerk and 7.1k on Thladdius this week.. so it seems to be working better than any other combination I've tried thus far.

Second, get a timer mod like NeedToKnow. I don't know about you, but I can't look up to the top corner of my screen and hunt through two rows of raid buffs for my slice and dice/HFB timers while focusing on the fight and trading tricks with the other rogue every 30 seconds.

I prefer vigor simply because I can do a hell of a lot more with 120 energy (aoe pulls, energy pooling on movement fights/to sync with cooldowns) than I can with 1 more point in Murder.

Other than that.. all I can really recommend is that you take some serious time and practice maintaining your rotations on a target dummy. Go for 10 mins, vanish, check your meters then reset and try to do better. Every time you hiccup your rotation it's 50-100 dps lost, but if you get it completely perfect it's a little like mangle. An everlasting ******!
