My first talent pointFollow

#1 Mar 02 2009 at 5:05 PM Rating: Decent
I cant decide whether to put my first point in Blessing of Kings, or go Ret so I can get improved blessing of might. I dont really like using 2h weapons so im iffy on going ret. Is the percent bonus of BoK better than imp blessing of might?

Well BoK will be a trainable spell at level 20(is that the right level?) when 3.1 comes out. Plus leveling Ret is much easier than prot at lower levels. You can't really start AoE grinding until your 30's.

I went BoK at first until i realised i was missing out on a lot of damage by not going into the Ret tree , those points do make a huge difference when used in the Ret tree , and has been said the next patch we get kings anyway which is only really useful in a group as far as i can see.

But right away wouldnt the increase in total strength in the prot tree be better than the reduction in mana cost for instant cast spells in the ret tree?

I think it is more that Ret gives better levelling speeds than Prot does at first , i have tried both and Ret is almost like you are your own mini god at lower levels and almost any mob your level even an elite seems to die so fast i find it a fun and relaxing way to level.

Prot is a slightly slower levelling way until you get to some of the decent spells in mid levels , it does have some advantages against multiple mobs i guess but the added power of Ret means mobs do die a lot faster .

The hardest part with the talents is deciding which is best and i think at lower levels it is probably better to stick in just one tree as that way you get to the higher level talents so much faster and no matter what tree you pick the higher level talents are what defines that tree , so for example sticking 5 points in kings would have meant you needed another 5 levels to get to the nice talents in the Ret tree , what most people seem to do is get the good talents in their tree of choice then fill out some in another tree , i can agree the lower level talents in other trees can be useful but not when it takes more levels to reach the better talents in your tree of choice.

BoK over BoM is a no choice option in my opinion , which is better ?. Kings gives all round stats and is better as a group buff but Might well that gives far more attack power for you , which to me means mobs die a lot faster.

My alt at levels 30 - 50 could kill most mobs same level in 2 perhaps 3 hits which is why i stick to Ret for now.

The sooner you put points in retribution, the sooner you get the fun stuff: Seal of Command, Crusader Strike, Judgements of the Wise, Divine Storm. This is where i'd put the points up to around level 43:

Once you have the required points for Judgements of the Wise (i.e, infinite mana) you can respec to put the 5 points from Benediction to Deflection. Which will mitigate some more damage resulting in less downtime, and also parrying cuts some time off your next auto-swing and so is a small damage increase. Then just move down the ret tree until Divine Storm.

Ignore Improved Blessing of Might and Divine Strength until close to lv 80. At level 20 or so, they'll give you an increase of perhaps 25 attack power which isn't remotely noticable. As your gear improves, Divine Strength becomes more effective, and as you get more powerful ranks of Blessing of Might the talented version looks more attractive.
