Does every parser work similar to Recount in the respect that it records dps time only after they engage the boss?
it bugs me that my pally shows up with lower on the "dps" charts, but higher on the "damage done" chart. my dps time begins instantly since im melee. most casters only begin when their openner lands. my last Naxx run i was #2(6.6%) in Damage Done, yet #8 on DPS. of course the casters always link the DPS in raid.
i know WWS takes presence and dps time into account. is there a way to have Recount take this into consideration?

yeah have it link damage per fight instead of dps. who cares what dps you do?? it's the damage over all fight taht matters you can crank out 5k dps and die in 2 sec but if you do 2k and live for over 30 sec you already did more than them. ***** dps as long as you can pump out the damage you need to in the time you need to.
and no there is no way that i know of to have recount show like wws. best thing is to have them stop linking in raids and have peeps look at wws it's what we do. i know i use to lead as boomkin cause i would tag mobs with is or mf on the pull to get a jump start where a mage would wait for tank to get threat and open with a high hitting spell.
its just like when i tank as a bear peeps can beat me on dps but i can out damage them cause i engage sooner.

This can also be true when the DPS has to stop due to too much aggro or having to hold off until a dangerous situation has passed (i.e. tanks tanking in the VoA boss clouds). All this makes your DPS moot.
Only the person who looks superficially without checking deeper will put any real value on dps. It means something, but not everything. Just like HPS means something, but is not the be-all and end-all of judging (no pun intended) a healer.
We're allowing alts in Naxx now and on my hunter I was happy to hit 1800 dps (talk about getting dragged through the content), which put me slightly ahead of two others on their alts. But I was dead last in damage done because I'm still not completely at ease with the rotation and managing all my trinket and special abilities cooldowns, which meant I wasn't maximizing my time on target or my pet's time on target. So my dps number meant very little. Higher dps than damage done, in terms of position on the chart, is not a good sign; while lower dps than damage done means a better job at maximizing time on target and smoothly navigating your rotation.
