This macro will:

- Assign a raid target to the spark for ease of seeing (Skull, to be precise)
- Focus the closest Power Spark
- Not do anything unless a Spark is in range, and is therefor spammable
- Relieve a little bit of the stress when you are the only DK in a 25 man raid.
- Chains of Ice the spark immediately after deathgripping it
- Switch target to Power Spark immediately after you DG it.

This macro will not:

- Deathgrip Malygos, EVER
- Assign the raid target if you are not raid assist or leader (obviously)
- Suck your *#!%
- Make you pro

/cleartarget
/targetexact Power Spark
/focus
/targetlasttarget
/stopmacro [target=focus,noexists]
/target focus
/script SetRaidTargetIcon("target", 8);
/targetlasttarget
/cast [target=focus] Death Grip
/targetexact Power Spark
/cast Chains of Ice

Wow this is excellent. I had a simple one already but if this one does what it says it does (havent tried it yet of course) It is a must have for any DK doing maly.

What's the difference between /targetexact and /target here?

And why /cleartarget before /target? Wait, nevermind.

It's a clever macro, but I'd say it's only a must have for any tunnel visioned DK doing Malygos. It's pretty hard not to see the sparks. It's pretty easy to target them. My guild has the tank pull Malygos around the inside edge of the outer ring so that the sparks always pass through the middle of the platform. It's a strategy that works whether we have a DK in the group or not, and means that you never have to worry about a DG cooldown, lag, disconnect, or any other scenario where relying on one person to spam an ez-mode macro will lead to a lost buff for the dps and a potentially one-shot tank.

Uh....mark it and let the first one fly in, chain it, kill it, second one grip it to the same spot, rinse and repeat?

Why would you ever need a macro for this?

It lets you focus on dps more which can be helpful if your guild doesnt have maly on farm.

because you know, coordination is a novel concept in raids?

you properly gripping a spark >>> any dps loss you incur (which shouldn't be that much)

You only develop skills by practicing them. I give huge kudos to the person who developed the macro...I have invested very little time into learning how to make clever macros in WoW. By the same token, I generally frown on crutches, and that macro is a crutch. It's like asking a raid leader to ping the map so everyone knows where to go after a vortex, or having everyone set auto-follow on the one raider you count on to not get gibbed in an arcane field in phase 3. You're putting the success of the group in the hands of one player so everyone else can do the fight on ez-mode, and if something happens to that one player or they're not available for a given night, your delightful little 10 minute farm boss is back on progression.

People talk like DK are the only ones capable of managing sparks. Stuns, entangling roots, hell...even mind flay can be used to control the sparks until your dps can down them and if Malygos is tanked properly, Death Grip becomes a "nice to have" option, not a "need to have".

I'm a very busy tank in phase 1, and I love it. It's entertaining. My camera angle is zooming all over, I'm spotting sparks, calling them, and then dragging Malygos around the circle so that the sparks pass over the group in the middle on their way to him, all the while maintaining a threat rotation that allows for full dps on Malygos. I do all that and then some gimp with a bow starts nagging about having someone ping the map so he can just chase down the flashing dot instead of having to think during/after a vortex.
