Spell power, stamina, intellect. Hit rating is a priority if you're raiding.

Okay thanks and yes i am going to be raiding with this character. I heard that locks were supposed to have a lot of haste too? And is it Haste > Hit or Hit > Haste?

Order of importance while levelling.

Spell Power > Sta > Spi

Order of Importance for raiding:

Hit until Cap > Spell Power > Haste/Crit > Spi

close but no biscuit

for raiding, hit > SP > haste > spirit > crit for all specs (currently.. come 3.1, depending on spec crit and spirit will swap)

Well I have been playing as a destro for a wile now (and no although it might have been better I did not swish to affliction come WotLK)
As a destro on a raid you need to have as hi hit as possible until capt. Sp is important ... when it comes to haste and critt, it depends on spec. If you have back draft you will get 30% haste every 10 sec for 3 destro spells. If you have glyph of conflating you will not consume your immolate. So haste is not as important for a deep destro spec. To do any descent damage as destro you need to have at least 20% crit ... so unless I am above that I always take crit over haste. But as haste lowers your time on casting you have time to cast moor spels.

Me prio is Hit - Sp - Critt till 20% - haste - Spirit - crit.
In 95% of raids I beat al ecualy geared peps (regardles of clas ... yes including mages) on bof singeltarget and aoe DPS.

Rotation (with adaptation to circumstances): Chaos Bolt – CoA(or CoE depending on raid) – Immolate – CoC – Conflagrate – Incinerate – Incinerate – Incinerate – Chaos Bolt – Immolate – CoC – Conflagrate – CoA – Incinerate ….. You get the Idée

As for levelling … I suggest affliction or Demonology

no, you get 30% casting speed, not haste. big difference as 30% increased casting speed doesn't decrease the benefit gained from haste, it works with it. crit on the other hand.. the more you have the less benefit you get and we have only 1 talent that provides us with a worthwhile benefit to gain from crit (improved shadowbolt) and that's going to be be changed next patch to the point that well... we'll never 'need' crit, honestly even as a full destruction warlock, if you have the option of crit or haste, go haste. crit or spirit, go spirit... crit simply doesn't give us any benefit in pve. if you don't believe me, go get the leulier spreadsheets or go to the elitist jerks forums and check the lock topics.. crit is proven to be the worst stat for us.

but he didn't say what type of lock he's going for.

I like crit over haste because

1. I'm attracted to big numbers (even if its not consistant)

2. I'm affliction (Pandemic - Each time you deal damage with your Corruption or Unstable Affliction, you have a chance equal to your spell critical strike chance to deal 33%/66%/100% additional damage. )

Haste prob make some sense on trash mobs for me, as I cast SB a lot. But for boss fights, I keep myself busy refreshing dots and before I know it, the boss is at or below 30% hp, in which case I switch to drain soul.

deftor, your logic is flawed.. and ****. unless you enjoy roleplaying while raiding... you only have 1 choice of stats and crit isn't one of them (regardless of spec) pandemic is a SMALL dps increase and crit in general just sucks for us. anyways yeah... your reasons are crap and wrong beyond the "i want to play how i want to play 'cos i paid" reason... though if you care about that so much you'd better go transfer to a roleplaying server 'cos that type of attitude doesn't suite anywhere else

You should stack stamina/int leveling, there isn't enough spell damage gear till Outlands. Then go Damage > Haste/Crit (they're about the same). Hit when you raid is better then damage. Spirit I just consider 0.3 spell damage.

no intellect need apply? Is that going to leave us with even less mana than we have now? Actually I was wondering if these same specs would work in the new patch with its changes. Ideas? I just got to 80 and I am going to have to seriously change everything.......

There is no huge need for intellect because you gain mana from life tapping. More mana only means you get a couple of casts at the beginning before you need to start using Life Tap, and it'll never fill up again while fighting. Unlike spirit it doesn't add any spell power through talents (that I remember: not a 'lock :-P). It won't help you regen mana any faster or anything. It's not all that good; you'll get plenty on your caster gear anyway, so there is NEVER a reason for gem/enchant for it.

Also, you can add that quote into your signature under the "My Account" options, then Forum Settings, up near the top of the screen. Saves you from having to retype it after each post.

there is only 1 benefit from more mana (and tbh any over 15k self buffed is enough to be efficient in raids) and that's to delay the need the lifetap until.. in an optimum situation you only want to lifetap while you actually can't DPS the boss, so this is stuff like moving out of AoEs, phase changes, target changes etc...
