Finally got WoW!Follow

#1 Feb 24 2009 at 10:03 AM Rating: Good
Hi I'm a serious reader on these forums. Just havn't really posted much at all. I have a few questions regarding the Priest class. I just got done installing the new expansion so I thought I'd drop a post while maint. is finishing because the excitement is killing me. Even though the Priest class intrigues me the most I am new to the game. I have done what you tell alot of new posters to do, Read the stickie. Seems outdated. I'm going to play a priest because I think they are the most important class in WoW imo. My gf plays a priest as well as her brother. They seem so much fun. My choice of spec will be shadow. I just love those dark arts making the minds of your enemies burn!

What I need to familiarize myself with is what type of armor will I be wanting to look for as well as statistics. What stats are most important. According to my GF, there have been alot of patches to WoW and that has made priest more..what you call soloable. I don't know anything about running dungeons but I deffinately learn. Could one of you maybe give me a rough draft on were I should place my points. My GF and her brother have both leveled holy. They have never played shadow before which makes me sad. Just something to get me on my way. I'm not asking you to hold my hand and lead my down the path of utter priestlyness. I can do that on my own. I am a pretty quick learner. Again I can't wait to join the world of Azeroth. I come to this game from Conan. Don't ever play that game. What ever you do. Its horrible. I should have picked up WoW first.

My other question is what are glyphs. My gf mentions to pick them up at an auction house. To much info to fast makes my head hurt lol. Thanks in advance for all your help and I hope I didn't make any of you experienced WoW players upset.

You will be wearing cloth armor, and I would think spellpower would be your most important stat. Also useful are MP5, Intellect, and spirit. You may not see all of these until the gear gets a bit higher level. Just be sure the first points you spend max out spirit tap.

If you are just starting, please pick up skinning and mining or herbalism as fast as you can. Sell everything you gather and you will always have plenty of money for repairs and learning your skills.

Also, have an enchanter make you a wand, or pick one up at the AH. Wands take no mana, and are a good item for any priest.

Once you have a bit of money, and are comfortable in your ability to earn it, go ahead and look at glyphs. They are fun and very useful boosts to some of your abilities. Customizing your character is fun. Glyphs are one way to do it.

Welcome priest.

Welcome to WoW. Your choice of a priest means you want two things: mana to cast your spells, and a way to get your mana back. Intelligence will increase the amount of mana at your disposal, while Spirit will govern how fast you recover the mana. It is a balancing act between the two. The talent 'Spirit Tap' will certainly help you while soloing, but you must remember that this requires you to land the killing blow for it to function. If you are planning on healing in groups, odds are you won't land that killing blow and will need to replenish your mana by drinking.

Most folks will point you toward 'levelling' skills and talents. I say take your time and enjoy your first trip up the ladder.
There will always be better equipment available as you level, so don't stress out over your gear. Save your gold for your mount (level 30).

I wouldn't worry about upsetting folks. Some people will get upset no matter what you do. The rest may recognize your "newbieness" and offer kindly advice. I suggest reading this guide to give you a better understanding of what role you and others are expected to fill while in a group.

Thank you all so very much for your help. My priest is currently level 9. I'm very close to level 10. Wonder what new spells I'll aquire. Priest isn't that hard to play. I just make sure to keep up that shield I got at level 6. A wand was given to me by a level 80 passer. Can't quite remember the name. Lesser magic wand Level 5. I can't see were to put points at yet. Guess I'm not hitting something or pressing the right key. Still learnin here. Again thanks. I was invited to join a guild and a person who makes cloth clothes gave me some starter armor. Ok back to my priest. I have a question if I may ask. My priest uses a mace but yet I have seen other priests using other weapons such as a staff. When I try to equip a staff its red. Reminds me of diablo lol.

I got to see some incredible looking level 80 players of all different classes. One was a priest. She was really cool to look at. Thanks again for the help.

You can find weapons trainers in the major cities. You can buy all weapon skills available to your class from them.

For a new low priest my advice is this, go shadow, dont bother with dungeons at all till your 80 just not worth it, spend your time leveling, anything you get in a dungeon will be replaced soon anyway. Spirit tap is great for low level, lets you last alot longer with stopping. Drop all talent points in anything that increases spell damage, forget about reducing threat or reducing mana cost for some of the spells. Best way to kill efficently is vampric emprace, vampric touch, shadow pain, devoring plague. If you start with this by the time they get to you, you should have these spells on them, then fear, then depending on how tough the monster is they will die before they come back at you, while there feared, you can wand them or if they are really tough mind blast them. Once you get the hang of it, you can have mobs die right in front of you without them evening touching you.

I would recommend new players enjoy their levels. Have fun exploring down that road, seeing a dungeon for the first time, learning when fade is effective. Levels will come. Exploring for the first time comes only once.

If you make your only goal reaching level 80, we'll have to answer your next post of "New 80, what do I do now?".

OK here are the basics:

Cloth Armor only - Important stats: Intellect, Spellpower, Spirit, Critical Stike/Haste

Weapon - Trainers in Thunderbluff for Staff, can't remember where the other one is, maybe Undercity? No idea on Alliance trainers. You can use one handed maces, one handed swords, daggers and stave's. Swords and staff are the trainable ones if I recall correctly. You can also use a wand, get one and use it often.

Glyphs - Once you get up a few levels (I think you have to be 15 for the first one) you will see slots open up (under your tab for glyphs) go to the auction house and see what you can find, there are a few nice shadow ones which will help enhance your spells.

Go and find a capital city as soon as you can (maybe ask your GF to point you in the right direction) here you can learn skills and professions. You can also use the auction house to buy and sell things you collect (if you hover over an item in your bag the name will be coloured, grey sell to a vendor, white may or may not sell on AH, green will sell and blue and purple will sell for much more) Anything that says soulbound next to it cannot be sold to anyone except a vendor.

Professions depend on your goals, I am a tailor/enchanter and that works well for me. I can make my own armor from cloth I pick up from mobs and I can enchant it with materials I get from disenchanting armor I pick up from quest rewards etc that I cannot use. You can also sell your enchanting skills to others as well as selling bags and armor which you make with tailoring. However this is not fast money as often you need to be high level to sell your skills. Fast money comes from gathering professions, usually skinning and either mining or herbalism. Skins come from beasts you kill and ore comes from nodes and herbs from well herbs you gather. You can track herbs OR ore on your minimap and once you have the tools (skinning knife and mining pick, herbalism doesn't need a tool) it is fast to level and cheap to train.

The main thing is to take your time explore the areas and enjoy the game, don't rush through. I loved my levelling the first time I did it, it was amazing to learn and discover as I went along.

Above all, enjoy
