Stacking ShardsFollow

With all the changes coming up I was wondering if stacking soul shards is anywhere in the picture. They sure take up a lot of bag space and often limit what I can pick up without returning to a merchant. It looks like arrows and bullets are getting a revamp. Is the possibility of a similar redo for soul shards a vain hope?

I suppose it's possible, but as long as you keep your shards in a shard bag, I don't see a problem. If you don't use shards often, drop the shard bag for a normal bag and just keep a couple shards with you. If you fill all your bags, you could drop shards to carry more, but I would recommend heading to a merchant to sell the junk items occasionally or AH, if they're AH worthy.

GC did say that the devs were looking into ways to make shards easier to manage.

But, from what I recall, there was no info on what that was, exactly...

But, I doubt it will be stacking. And if it IS stacking, then they will probably do something like making different "types" of shards, because they don't want it being THAT simple.

I agree with Hands-o-death, get rid of the shard bag, space is to precious, and keep 4 or 5 in a regualr bag. If you use a shard, just make sure you replace it with your next mob. It's easy enough to do, and you'll make less trips to the vender. Soulbags are dead space, and if your timeing is on, you can pull a shard when the mob is down under 5% without wasting mana or actual casting time. The only time you may need a few more shards is if you going into a lwr lvl dungeon with mods that won't generate a soul, and your with a bunch of noobs that don't know how to keep from wiping! But that situation will probably be rare, and you'll have time to prepare.

Of course, you can always get the Lock add-on to manage your shards, and then drain every mob out of habit. The Add I use lets me decide how many shards I want to keep in my bag at any one time. I keep 5, the rest are destroyed unless I choose otherwise. So, shard management has become a thing of the past.

I'd rather see Blizz focus on something a little more thrilling than "Shards", like perhaps, a quest to get a feldragon or a Dreadwing...flying mount.....lol....HEY!...stop lauphing..it's OK to dream!

I should maybe add...

My lock is demonology spec. I rarely use shards. Only use them to replace my healthstone and felguard, when needed. Not sure why, but I still carry around a shard bag and it's always full. However, I don't run into any problems with my bag space, so having the shard bag on me doesn't cause me problems.

I'd prefer it if we (all classes) got 1 additional spot for a bag, but have the spot specifically for an ammo bag or shard bag. This would make so we wouldn't need to ditch the shard bag for another bag, to have more space.

I also agree with Bordergirl. We really don't need Blizzard to work on our shards. We'd prefer a class specific flying mount.

To prevent the accumulation of too many shards, grab an addon called "Shards" it allows you to set a predetermined number and will automatically delete all shards collected above that number. helps prevent over crowding your bag and painful manual deletion when you've racked up 40 odd.

I always feel naked anytime I'm carrying less than 15. Granted with the changes to the summoning there is a reduced need but my current rotation rarely allows for the collection of shards. and I find I can burn through 10 or more very quickly during raids etc.

I doubt they will let shards stack. That would ***** a lot of locks who dumped gold into their new 32 slot bags. Besides with a soul bag they're not hard to manage. Grab some 20 slot bags to fill the rest of your spots. If you don't use shards very often then do what the above poster said and replace the 2-3 you have on you as you use them.

I know it been mentioned before but i want bag buffs, an offset for having to deal with silly reagents.

What do hunters get, 15% ranged haste. 15% spell haste seems fair ;)

How about more things that use shards? This way we have a reason to have a full bag. Granted I don't know shard use of affliction or destruction locks, being as I've been demonology since day 1, but I rarely use shards.

Maybe add something to all our talents/skills to optionally use a shard, when casting, to make the talent/skill stronger. Like a buff, in a way. Obviously shouldn't be much of a buff, but we have so many shards, why not make more use out of them?

Actually, I have more problems on a progression night with shards as Demo than as Aff or Destro. Every wipe costs me two to three shards, one for HS, one for pet, one for Soulstone. Aff and Destro guys just summon an Imp and Soulstone if needed, so only 1 shard.

Also, with the change to the way we make shards, this really isn't a problem, though I do agreem Hunters getting their bag slot back and us still without one sucks. Maybe make the shard bag equipable in the Ammo Slot since we have nothing else to go there?

the only thing I found when reading the latest patch notes is
Quote:
# Soul Shard: This item now has a maximum count of 32 in inventory.

Nothing there about stacking...

Ok, granted I don't use shards too often, but they're limiting the number we can even have in our inventory? Sounds rather stupid. Why limit us?

Because really no one would want to have more then 32 shards, the size of the largest soul bag, and with the change to drain soul ie being able to reward a shard without killing the enemy, and the fact you will be using drain soul for the last 25% of the bosses hp, and you will end up having more shards then you know what to do with.

i never said they did stack, but you guys are complaining that 3 shards won't be enough bla bla bla.. read the change to drain soul. also you complained about hunter quivers.. they're being removed and hunters get a passive 15% haste

POST EDIT

twirl, you will only use drain soul for last 25% if you're affliction, but due to the DS change getting shards will be easy for all specs.

To me, the 36 limit is not a problem, as I rarely carry more than 24 anyway, and just restock as I go. Will be even easier to restock on progression nights since once I know it's gonna be a wipe I can just start getting shards.

My problem with the Hunter bags being removed though, is that we still have to waste a bag slot and they no longer do. We are now the only class that has to waste an entire bag to carry what we need. Granted, I could put a different bag there and then when my others run out of space just stop restocking shards, but that's a pain in the ***.

you mean 32, and yeah it's annoying we still have to use a shard bag... but i don't expect much from blizzard.. and i've got so much bag space that it's not an issue for me (i actually wouldn't know what to do with another 22 free slots o.0)
#21 Mar 05 2009 at 7:04 AM Rating: Good
I cannot wait for the stackable shards and my new found bag space :P. I don't think limiting it to 32 is a problem either, I usually carry 20 with me in my shard bag and only use them for a healthstone, felguard, and a soul stone every once and a while.

no freetrial, as the dpsc of soulfire is C.RAP C.RAP C.RAP, during heroisms etc.. you'll want to stick to SB/incinerate/whatever your main nuke is... soulfire is S.HIT currently and is PURELY a pvp ability. simply put you're doing it ALL wrong

The reason most people want stackable shards is because running around with a shard pouch means one less bag for loot and other awesome things. The Hunters used to whine about stackable shards because they have to carry around an ammo pouch or a quiver with ammunition for their primary attack.

But... Come Patch 3.1 where ammo stacks in 1000's and the speed bonus on quivers/pouches has been removed and added to the auto-shot attack, I'll be darned if any Hunter wants to run around with an ammo bag anymore. So why do we have to?
