Apparently this is gonna be one of THOSE.

/sigh.

She has a few pieces of good gear, but much of her gear is awful. She has T7.5 pants without any spellthread. In fact, none of her gear has enchants(her boots have a 12 stam armor kit, still...). Her pants also have a 9 spellpower gem in them. The cheapness needs to stop. Her trinkets need a reworking(BADGE TRINKET NAO! Smiley: motz). Any mage with a helmet that lacks a meta-socket needs a swift beating with the knowledge stick.

I see that she's working on Kirin Tor rep. This is good. As soon as she hits revered, she needs to drop the staff and get the dagger the KT sells.

And then there's the talents.

She's an arcane mage who has at least the following problems with her build:

No points in Arcane Meditation.
Only has 1 point in Spell Power.
Only has 1 point in Netherwind Presence.
There are other tweaks that can be made that would give her a fair increase in raid damage for sure, though not as necessary for 5 mans(picking up Precision, for instance).

As far as group play.
I'm assuming you keep up Thunderclap always. If not, doing so will increase her damage quite a bit.
I'm also assuming she's not threat limited. This tree is the least threat limited of all three we have.

Tell her to AoE trash mobs more.
Have her make a macro that does the following.

Quote:
/use 13
/use 14
/cast Arcane Power

After using it, she is to go all out. Worst case scenario, she has to pop invisibility. She has it as insta-cast. There is no need to fear aggro.

Tell her to go all out more often. There is no room in magedom for fear of death. She has three tools to protect herself from it(Ice Block, Insta-Invis, and Mirror Image). She should go nuts and use them when applicable.

I'll sum it up quicker.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~She's a moron.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now you know why I'm not a Scholar =P
For real though, all that stuff Poldaran just said is 100% correct, but actually implementing that information into this Mage's play style is probably not going to happen. It's blatantly obvious this person has no concept of how the Mage class works. It's blatantly obvious this person does not CARE about how the Mage class works. The resources are out there - the fact that you had to come ask shows something horribly wrong with the situation.
People are free to play the game any way they like, you'll find no one defend that truth more than I - but you should surround yourself with people that play for similar reasons as you. This, my friend, is not one of them.
Wait, why?
Because of the increased threat and ability to AoE?
Am I missing something?
TC allows her to benefit from the torment the weak talent (+12% damage to snared or slowed targets). She can do it herself since she has slow in her build but it's easier if the tank keeps it up.
the +spirit stuff need to go. Mages never care about fsr mana regen, evar. I still dun see how it will become a better stat for us, blizz can spin their PR machine whatever way they want. I know the tier set has it too but thats like 2 pieces out of 5 which sums up to 120 spi. If you got spi in other slots that gear is kinda better off on a healer (who can use spi, paladins and shamans do not use it), I still got some pieces with that stat sucking up precious item budget points.
need to farm more heroics.
spirit really isn't that awful for arcane as we do get mana regeneration while casting. I wouldn't stack or gem for it, but it is not as bad as like agility or something.
ROFL I have 700 Spirit and my DPS has benefited greatly from it - even in theory craft.
The more you stack Spirit the closer Mage Armor gets to Molten Armor in pure DPS numbers. I have gotten my spirit to a point where they are literally equal. Having more spirit allows alot more room to fully open up Arcane throttle and then cool it down again. Ontop of this, with Spirit like Mine + Mage Armor + Glyph + Arcane Meditation, effects like Innervate have HUGE returns.
I do not find myself struggling for mana, even though I allow myself to open up pretty freely on my Arcane rotation. Dispite what many may think, its very VERY easy to stack Spirit by picking up a few good healer pieces that are lacking on the Hit but have equal stats otherwise. Arcane defiantly doesn't need the help with more hit points.
I dunno, when mine went down alot of points when I was trying to replace my chest, I was a little bit alarmed, and decided to hang on to what I have for a while. I didn't sacrifice anything to stick with what I have, but, yeah, that freaked me out. Mind you, I only played arcane for about a day, but it made a big impact on my thinking (about mana), coming from a FFB build. Anyway, the previews of 3.1 said that spirit would be made more 'interesting.' The PTR notes don't really indicate that, so, IDK.
Hey Poldarin I've done that like 100 times now because I use Google Chrome and it has spellchecker and it automatically fixes it when i spell "definitly" into "defiantly" instead of "definitely"...
Google Chrome tries to help me look like a badass... =D
