Ditto ... every single Heroic Strike, cleave and Devastate will be hitting for less, therefore generating less threat, simply because he has a dagger ... very silly.

I actually have no idea wth that weapon is doing in game.

So what? Some people just don't have any luck with drops. I never managed to get Sun Eater, and my hunter never got Sonic Spear either. Seeing how he only has a single Ymiron kill so far, and 3 on Keleseth, a total of 4 kills that could have gotten him a "typical" iLevel 200 tanking weapon, I'm not surprised.

This dagger is only marginally worse than Red Sword of Courage for threat, and it does offer quite a bit of avoidance. (And this might just be an attempt at building an avoidance set). It might be a significant upgrade over what he had before.

Can't judge people based on armory alone, especially since the supply of "purplez" is dictated by RNG.

I should of linked the thread. His excuses for it were hilarious.

Like?

It is impossible to judge his intentions based on armory alone. We all know that you can get a decent tanking weapon just by completing "Ragemane's Flipper" in Zul'Drak, so his reasoning for chosing the dagger over that would be the important part - not that there is a dude on the armory tanking with a dagger...

Just run him through RAWR, along with some pieces he should have had access to with the Ragemane quest:

Current
2341,9
48,02% avoidance

Crescent of Brooding Fury
2391,0
47,32% avoidance

Hammer of Quiet Mourning
2349,2
47,45% avoidance

Sword of Heartwrenching Slaughter
2355,3
47,49% avoidance

In the worst case (Crescent) that's a loss of 50 tps, coming with a gain of 0,7% avoidance - not counting the loss in Stamina. This is far from screaming "OH NOES!"

For comparison:

Red Sword Of Courage
2413,8
47,49% avoidance

The loss in threat isn't gamebreaking. But he needs some damn good reasoning to explain why he chose to pass on the stamina, after all 39 on all those blue pieces.

He actually won't lose any threat from HS/cleave, as they add a static amount of damage to attacks, it's not based off of weapon damage at all. That said, he would lose devastate damage and there are FAR better weapons he could be using that are easily attainable. What's most concerning to me about the weapon is that he's using a deep wounds spec and is using a dagger. He WILL lose a lot of threat as a result of that. Not to mention he's packing a resilience trinket and is gemming for parry (lol).

He's bad and he should feel bad.

On the more fair side, I took a look at his rep. It looks like he's a new player. This, however, doesn't excuse him from being stupid. It just gives a reason as to why he might be. Still have to learn at some point that using daggers for tanking hasn't been OK since that one time in MC.

Funny because I'm playing the same game as him but I'm not running around making poor gear decisions. What does this have to do with purples or random drops? Daggers are inferior for tanks. You'd have to have some hell of an upgrade to take one, this one is not it.

We used one for fun on occasion. We had him tank Kara a long while before the unhittable videos surfaced, but that rogue just blew away the cool factor of anything we had done. Illidan? Illidan?!?

He clearly WAS prepared.

HS will actually do more threat if spammed though. HS isn't like Maul, where you get extra threat for the whole damage done. The 'High Threat' in the tool tip is actually done ONLY through the extra damage done in the tool tip. Needless to say, you'll get more HS's off with a dagger, thus doing more of the high-threat-tooltip-damage, thus being slightly more effective in this sense.

The real gimp is to the Devastates.
