Damage..??Follow

OK boyz...help a gal out. I was readying a post where the topic was DPS...Damage per second, right? Anyway, how can you truely figure out your true DPS, and please, explain so this Blonde can understand. SO..my base stats say my damage is 228-425 w/15% crit, and my Spell damage says 1068 w/18% crit. Now, when in a fight, after throwing my DoT's, I see ticks that run from 200 to upper 600's, and my wand hits can be anywhere from 400 to, and this is the kicker, I had 4675 last night........one hit. Now I don't know what my Big Ugly (felguard)is doing really, but with such a wide range of Hit points, how do I answer that question.."Whats your DPS?"

I'm asking because I saw a post where you guyz were talking about trying to get at least 400 dps, or it's hard to get in group. I'm not really a "Stats" kinda gal, but would you say mine are OK?

Finding out your DPS is largely the job of addons. I would recommend downloading recount which you can find here, recount. That will also tell you how to install it. If you need any other help just ask.

Divide the total amount of damage you did by the length of a fight. For spells, it's the spells total damage divided by the casting time (1.5 for instant-cast).
Otherwise, get an add-on called Recount.

what spec are you? if you're an affliction warlock it's a little bit more technical to get your max dps out. do what these guys said and download the program recount found at curse.com

I'm a Demonlock...well...56/14. I got the download that was mentioned and it shows my DPS after a Heroics Dungeon at 874. Does that sound right? After seeing people post "You need 400 to get into a group", sounds a lil high.

Get recount, go to one of the major cities, find the heroic training dummy, buff yourself and go apesh!t on it. I usually like to go for a full 2-3 minutes. Back off and check your DPS. That will be a good indicator of where you stand self buffed. It's obviously not foolproof but it is a good baseline.

800 is still a little low for a lot of the heroics. Though 1k+ is preferred for a lot of the beginning heroics

800 is probably not acceptable at all. I am guessing, that you either are decked in greens or your spec (or rotation) need work.
I was doing probably 1000 before I got a felguard again, and now I am up to 1500.
How much spell power do you have, which minion do you use, and how is your gear?

Quote:
"Whats your DPS?"

We rely on your minions more than any other spec, so the correct answer to that is "varied". Depending on how deep you go, DPS can be very inconsistent.
On my server, people are usually more concerned with things like gear and spell power, so I dont get asked that often. Most people use Recount, or will see the results by someone that does have it.

Well....I'd put a link for my toon, but I'm a lil tech poor (blame on my blonde roots). "Reign", on korielstraz. My gear is actually decent...the boyz in the guild kinda help me out with that. My spell pwr is at like 1300 I noticed last night that like my shadowbolt is doing anywhere from 1700 to 6500, every once in a while I'd see some in the 7000's, but I'm guessing that's a crit..Right? Anyway, thanks for your input guyz, I'm learning a lil more everyday.

PS - I got the counter you were talking about, now I just gotta learn how it works...Great...another challange for ol blondie here!..lol..:)

bordergirl,if you want give this spec a shot, clicky.

* On trash (in raids or heroics) if your party AoEs them (tank pulls more mobs and your party kills them all simultaneously) you cast CoA on some pulled mob(to get molten core proc +10% fire damage) and Rain Of Fire them.

* On boss fights you have to keep Immolate,CoA and Corruption on target ALL the time and cast Incinerate in between refreshing your DoTs.If you don't have any DoT timer I suggest taking one from curse.com (I'm using nature enemy cast bar),use Demonic Empowerment whenever it's off cooldown

* ALWAYS have your firestone on weapon !

edit:

* Keep cleave on auto unless you go heroics and have to watch not to break CC'ed mob ,keep Anguish OFF

* If you don't like to menage your pet, just put him on defense and he will attack anything that you attacks

Try this and I guarantee your dps will go up

Cheers =)

border girl. the post above with the spec link in it, is 100% correct. right now, well prior to 3.1.0, the felguard emberstorm spec is the highest dps spec you can go before you are fully epic'd out. i am that spec now and with my lock i will average 4k DPS on boss fights in 25 mans, over 3K in 10 mans, and just under 3K in heroics. once you start looking at getting good gear. you stats will go up. which in turn will make your dps go up. btdubs dont forget about hit rating. as 0/41/30 i have 2058 SP with pet and fel armor. 26% crit unbuffed, 19.6K life unbuffed. my SP could be higher. though i have nothing but stam gems in now. as for patch 3.1.0 the rumored talent trees are changing to the point you wont be able to get molten core and a full emberstorm, which buff all of your damage sources. as for rotation for that spec. CoA (or CoE depending on raid, party, etc.) Corrup, immo, Incin until you need fillers. dont cap your dots. when the target hits 25% life, drain sould it will tick for 4K. mine does.dont let your dots run out though. when ever demonic empowerment is up use it. to help even more glyph of felguard is a must. i hope this helps.

I was pulling around 1100 DPS as affliction. I got necrosis to do DoT timing... and found it was just insane to keep the dots up. But max DPS I was getting was around 1350. I went to the linked spec and am at 1500 DPS now (1650 vs target dummy). ;-) Wewt!

Okay, another blonde with questions. I have been running destro in 25 man naxx, and am doing crappy dps (my gear isn't up to it, but the guys in the guild haul me along) I tried this felguard/emberstorm build on the training dummies - the dps is a bit better, but i run out of mana constantly. I am using CofA, Corr, Immo, Inc spam until dots need refreshed - DE when up. I am having to stop and lifetap constantly, and quickly run out of life to tap. I have been reading for months on these forums, Warlocks Den, and Elitist Jerks, and so much of the stuff is hard to understand. I have 4 years of college with a 4.0 gpa, and seriously can't decipher a lot of what is being said. I have never played another video game before WOW, not even nintendo, so maybe that is the problem? I would love to know what glyphs you use with this spec, and how do you keep up your mana? I don't know how to link my armory either, but my lock is Mysterrie on Garrosh. Any help I can get what be greatly appreciated - I am very close to going back to my hunter, because I hate to play so poorly. thank you!

At what level would you respec into this build?

I just hit level 40 last night, and I'm running with deep Affliction for leveling. Is it worth switching yet, or should I wait until the upper 60's to give this a try?
#14 Mar 15 2009 at 6:32 PM Rating: Decent
to prince: i was 41/30 for a long time and i still have that problem. i constantly run out of mana. still havent figured out why. as for glyphs. the number one glyph you want as fel guard emberstorm is the glyph of felguard which increases hit AP by 20%. the rest are ones you want. pretty much. but you could go with glyph of corruption. but as felguard emberstorm you really wont be using shadowblot. you can also use glyph of curse of agony. which increases iuts duration by 4 seconds. which in turn will reduce you mana usage over a long period of time.

to Kuthela. you really wont want to go this spec until you start getting into northrend instances. but by that time you wont be able to do this spec at you current level. unless you get 80 by monday night. for a little help on what you are looking at come 3.1 here is the new talent maps for 3.1. http://ptr.wowhead.com/?talent
