NONE if your build includes Balance of Power and Imp. FF

2% (53 rating) w/o Imp FF

Reason being that bosses in heroics are level 82 rather than 83, so you only need to cover a 6% chance to miss, of which 4% are already covered through Balance of Power.

Wow. I saw your answer and was shocked it was so low. I checked as well. It is correct.

Assuming Balance of Power.
53 to hit level 82.
342 to hit level 83.

Didn't realize that the curve spiked after the difference in levels broke 2.

I agree Horsemouth. Wow!

I started putting together a Boomkin set so this information will come in handy.

Hold up! I'm confused. I thought cap was 17%. 7% could be reached with Imp FF and BoP. You still need to hit the 10% (262'ish) for a level 83 mob. Take off roughly 26 for every level below.

Please explain, is the curve between 82 & 83 really that large?

Take a look at the WoW Wiki article.

Base hit chance is 96% against equal level. You lose 1% if the mob is 1 level higher than you, 2% if 2 levels higher. When they become 3 levels higher (orange-colored level) you take a huge hit to Hit %, which is a 11% that you need to fill. And then another 11% for every level that your target has over you, but realistically mobs shouldn't be higher than 3 levels above you in raids.

What about this article from Gray Matter?

Quote from Gray Matter -

Hit Rating:
If you raided in the Burning Cruisade then you know the importance of Hit rating, in WotLK Hit is still very important. However, there are a couple of changes you should know. First, you will now need 26.23 Hit Rating to improve your chance to hit by 1%. More importantly we will now be able to increase our hit chance to 100%. So we will now need to increase our hit chance by 17%. Balance of Power and Misery (shadow priest talent) will increase our hit chance by 7%. The other 10% will need to be made up by hit rating. Therefore, the soft hit cap in WotLK is 263.

Maybe we're saying the same thing, it's still pretty early! :-)

Umm, yes?

That article looks pretty good, but it doesn't really address the Hit Rating curve which is what I was trying to expand on. That is also why it requires very little Hit Rating to be capped against a 82 target, compared to a 83 target, since the biggest chunk of the 17% (11%) comes from the 3rd level difference.

I'm not too sure at this point what sort of answer you were looking for. :P

I think it is just a difficulty thing. Only answer that makes sense. Raiding is harder than heroics. Well in theory at least.

Answers my question. I was unaware of the curve. You may now return to your regularly scheduled program!
