Combat Poisons for 5 man and HeroicsFollow

#1 Feb 17 2009 at 11:19 AM Rating: Decent
Hello everyone!

I'm a bit confused on what I should be using poison-wise in 5 man (normal and heroics). I'm deep combat spec and can't get the improved poison talents in the Assasination tree, so it seems like deadly is definitely out of the question on trash, due to it's inability to stack fast enough. From the little bit of info I could find, it seems like wound does more damage than non-talented instant due to it's fatser proc rate.

I guess my question is whether or not I should just stick with wound X2 and eviscerate (and deal with the armor mitigation) instead of trying to stack 5 deadly and use envenom.

Can anyone give me some guidance on this. (Yes, I DID read the poison FAQ, but this didn't seem to be addressed).

Well, you certainly can do so if you want to spend the money to switch to deadly poison on any boss fight.

I'd probably just recommend DP MH/WP OH. Does just fine for five mans.

Even without the poison talents? Will the DP's stack fast enough, and will the Instant poisons and Envenoms hit hard enough?

Honestly I don't really concern myself with trash much in heroics. Keep evisc and envenom on your bar, if it stacks enough fantastic, envenom, if not, evisc. It will certainly stack fast enough for you to alternate with rupture on boss fights.

It's not the ideal either way, but it is utilitarian enough to work quite well for both.

All he is saying is that it would be kind of costly to keep replacing your poisons just for more trash dps. If you want to do that then by all means be my guest.

Like I said in a different post on trash in raids I just target the tank, cast Trick of the Trade, and then get two combo points on his target and put up SnD. Then, I just spam Fan of Knives while white damaging the main target.

Trash dps isn't that big a of a deal with the exception of a few mobs, or if your doing a timed run for an achievement. Even then your group set up should compensate for your lack of aoe.

Been lvling my rogue(74 atm) last few days, from what i've found WP/WP is best for trash and dp/wp is best on bosses. Pugs i was running with had more trouble with trash than bosses so i just ran wp/wp the whole time(40%+ of the grps dam, gotta find better pugs, lol).

From my unscientific number crunching, I agree that WP/WP is best for trash and DP/WP for bosses, mainly because bosses live long enough for DP to come good. However I run DP/WP all the time, to save the hassle of changing poisons (it's negligible cost anyway). The only time I run with other poisons is PVP (CP/WP) and the boss in Obsidian Sanctum (AP/AP) to remove enrage from the flames.
